I used to read Murray’s columns in the LA Times when I was a young man. I’ve always considered him brilliant. Some of the entries in the book did seem dated though. Understandable, but not as enjoyable as I recalled. That may be me more than his style. That being said, he has a remarkable grasp of the language and the ability to bring some wonderful references to his writing.
I grew up reading Jim Murray’s sports column in the LA Times. He has such a unique voice. His writing is easy to read and its entertaining and creative. Clearly he loves words and he respects his subjects. He’s as legendary as the athletes he covers.
