This book is like if Janet Jackson was your therapist, and I trust her whole heartedly to be my therapist because she came out of the Jackson family relatively unscathed. She probably is better qualified than a lot of therapists to be honest and it's all genuinely very good self help advice in here. So, if you need therapy and don't want to go, just read this book.

I'll let you know how I like the recipes after I try them, but I love the concept of her putting recipes in there at least. I liked the pictures and learning about her life and artistry. She's pretty up front about it not being an autobiography, so no disappointments in not a lot being revealed. Still, I learned a good amount of new things about her. I liked how humble and down to earth she is. She's like the polar opposite of what Tan France was.

Oh one more thing - I'm touched to see how much fan letters have touched her. I wouldn't think that she would care! But obviously some meant so much to her that she kept them for decades and still refers to them to the present. I don't know. Janet's just a sweetie. And a boss lady. I love her

I truly admire and loooooovvveee Janet if you know then you know. So obviously I loved the book. Janet if you are reading this happy birthday queen I love you.

Maybe this book is intended to encourage readers to accept challenges, but instead, I came away feeling sad for Janet.

I might be biased here, Janet Jackson is one of my all-time favorites, but "True You" is a hidden gem. I think she shares more insight into her life in this book than she does in her four-hour documentary, and yes, there are even recipes! It's personal, engaging, and a great on-ramp to discovering Janet, Miss Jackson if you're nasty.
