My fiance has ADD, and oftentimes, it's difficult to understand how that translates practically into the a world that is often very performance-based and routine-driven --- which are two qualities he does not do well at all. That being said, I (a Ph.D student) consider him very bright (though hasn't finished a post-secondary degree) with phenomenal qualities who is often hindered by the way the majority of the world functions. He often describes his frustrations as feeling like he's a circle living in a world of squares with our square-expectations. Practically-speaking, he loses track of time easily and is often late/ misses meetings altogether, which can be frustrating for the rest of us. However, the authors highlight the issue from a compassionate point of view and I was drawn to the positive perspectives they brought out: my fiance is unusually intelligent and takes risks more easily than most people --- they make up an important part of our world and we should celebrate their gifts and work patiently toward understanding them. They definitely do not have a "disease" -- they are wired differently and it presents lots of exciting possibilities. I definitely encourage anyone who is ADD, or close to someone ADD to read this book as it was a positive eye-opener for myself. It does come from a Christian perspective, and as a Christian I was definitely enlightened, but one need not be one to appreciate the valuable insight presented.

First off this is NOT recommended to read.
well if I knew that this lady claimed to be a pastor (really) I wouldn't have ever read it...but I didn't look that closely at the back. secondly I KNOW what ADD is, and that is basically all this book talked about! Over and over I was deceived into thinking that some resolution, some type of functioning balance would be presented... and I was very much so disappointed by continual explanation of what it is and why it's seen the way it is and how it was thought to be only a childhood dilemma. Ok I got it. Now what? What are the positives? On top of that you can't even trust the Biblical advice, as it is plain that the Lord doesn't have in mind for women to be pastors. We have so many other needed roles! So if the author doesn't even heed that, why would I think they would correctly give any other biblical information? Really this was a waste.
