One summer, whilst on holiday in northern France Aristide is given a blue Li-Lo by his Grandmother. Despite being told not to go too far from the shore Aristide manages to float all the way across the channel to England where he is captured and held prisoner by some boys. "Aristide" reminded me of "Emil and the Detectives". The Euro-culture and vintage-nature of the story was charming. I liked Aristide's character growth within the story; how he made better choices, better decisions when he had to think for himself than he did when Granny was thinking for him. A good recommendation for read aloud. A book that raises some laughter and discussion during or after read aloud I'd guess.
