A real treat for the eyes! I love seeing old sci-fi book covers and was looking for something similar. This did not disappoint. The ideas were very creative, I am left thinking "who would have thought of this?!". Just the way some of the pieces are put together, what colors are next to each other and for some, the symbolism, made me think. I like how this book is divided into themes (aliens, spacecraft, symbolism, barbarians, etc).
I picked this up for $10 used online, definitely recommend!
I really enjoy the art and layout of this book. My one criticism is that to learn whether the art is from a portfolio or from a book cover, you have to flip to the back. My copy has a broken spine, so this is very challenging and tedious. I love to know where art comes from, whether it's from the artist's mind or inspired by a work of fiction.
Funky, psychedelic, disco-era science fiction book cover art. This book is an interesting period piece of the sort of illustration that was current in the early and mid-1970s. To be fair, there is plenty that would not look out of place today. But those Peter-Max-drug-trippy images do linger in the memory.
A fun overview of science fiction book covers of the 1960's and 70's. There's only a brief section of text at the beginning, followed by page after page of color artwork from many of the prominent illustrators of the time.
