This was a very fun and interesting introduction to Celtic history. I was surprised at how much Christianity has adapted from the Celts and their practices. This book gave a glimpse into various fields ( heritage, art, stories) and definitely made me want to know more.

Thank you!

This work supports and strengthens my belief that all religious beliefs are not based in facts, but in truth are all grounded in superstitions and myths. Count Volney had things right so many years ago.

Even the religiously held belief, taught by so many as truth, that being the theory of evolution. This theory ignores the fact that so many synchronized here and now elements within nature can not be accounted for by adding copious amounts of time. The theory, also in reality is based on pseudoscience which ignores the intangible, but real evidence that intelligence exists within nature.

We have much to learn.

Whilst I assumed this book was the history of the Celts in Britain, this was actually a history of Celts in Ireland. So going in - I was immediately confused (considering the byline)
For me the best part of the book was the initial section - the life of the Celts is far more interesting to me than Gods, mythology etc which is what the bulk of the book serves. I quickly skipped those parts.
Overall, it wasn't really for me - as the topics I was interested in were not covered in too much detail - such as how the Celts learned Jewellery making and how their societies work.
Though their impact on modern day Ireland cannot be ignored.

Good Overall

Overall a pretty good primer on the Celts of Ireland, but I noted some things I feel are inaccurate. First, the author says the early Celts raised corn as one of the crops, which seems improbable as corn was an American grain until much later. Second, the author says the Celts didn't travel beyond Ireland because of a lack of a sailing tradition. Other sources say the Celts of France and Iberia have a long tradition of sailing, including to the cod fisheries of eastern Canada. I see no reason to believe Irish Celts wouldn't have done the same.

A good book on the subject.
This book is full of information and I really enjoyed read it. The Celtic culture has always held a fascination for me so this book was like a slow drink of water that I can come back over and over again and revisit anytime I wish. If this is a subject that interested you this is a great book to read. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.

Entertaining review of Celts

Best part was the first 1/3 of the book, rest dedicated to mythology and religion. While important, these things weren’t what I was looking for. Some clear assumptions made, but they aren’t dressed up as facts. (ie The story is that celts preserved the heads of ancestors as part of worship but it is more likely that they cut off the heads of their enemies).

I mean it is what it claims to be, an overview of Celtic History. It just felt very surface level and I constantly found myself wanting to know more about the information mentioned. This is by no means a bad book. I just wanted more from it.
