A corporate executive vanishes without a trace. His domineering boss wants him back in the office, ASAP.

Did Karl Larsson run off with a mistress? Was he kidnapped? Or had he just walked out once and for all on a life of debt and struggle?

The deeper Freddy Ferguson digs into this one, the less it makes sense. The statements from Larsson's long-suffering wife, from the stoner security guard who was the last to see the man alive, and from the respected reporter known for having the inside scoop just don't add up.

Where is the truth in this most perplexing of cases? Maybe in a slip of the tongue by an arrogant man, or in a dopesick junkie's account of a seemingly random attack. Maybe in the pocket of a man who stalks without fear of being seen, or in the multimillion-dollar transactions of an anonymous shell company.

One thing's for sure, Freddie needs to crack this case before he becomes its next victim.

This is my first book by Andrew Diamond and I havent read the other books in this series. But this book can be read as a stand alone.
I liked the mystery and the characters. But Freddy seemed too emotional and takes questionable decision.
I have added the other books to my 'To-Read' list

Thank you to the author, Stolen Time Press and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

After reading the second of this series a year ago and making the acquaintance of Freddy Ferguson, a former boxer turned PI, I was excited to read the next book in the series - and this did not disappoint. This story is a fast-paced, quiet but deadly thriller that is very enjoyable. Ferguson comes across as a classic hard-boiled noir PI, but he's actually an old softie, as evidenced by the fact that he cannot let go when he is hired to find a missing corporate executive, and fired in short order by the CEO, who is an arrogant bully. The story takes lots of surprising twists and turns, and the ending is hugely satisfying - particularly because throughout the book we are given glimpses of Freddy's inner dialogue and questions about his personal life.

32 Minutes, book three in the Freddy Ferguson mystery series, is another strong entry from this author in the detective subgenre. In Freddy’s new case, he has to untangle seemingly unconnected crimes that put both himself and his co-worker girlfriend, Claire, in peril.

It starts when he’s called onto a missing person case. An executive officer of a troubled company has disappeared, and his boss, Leighton Graham—an imperious bully—demands that Freddy find the officer ASAP. Freddy knows the job is going to be a stinker the moment he meets Graham. (“What a waste this guy was,” Freddy thinks. “What a waste of humanity.”)

But Freddy is an honorable man—as well as a partner in a tiny private investigation agency that needs income—so he undertakes the job to the best of his ability. It leads him through a morass of drug dealings, mega-dollar investment fraud, and multiple murders.

Not surprisingly, he gets banged around on occasion. The brief but intense fight scenes come across realistically, supported by Freddy’s previous life as a professional boxer. Little of his backstory is provided in this volume, as it’s been established in the two previous books. The author gives readers who are new to the series enough details to understand who Freddy is, where he got his skills, and what motivates him. Deftly done.

The story continues the series’ “noir” tone of vintage hardboiled detective novels, which jangles interestingly against the modern setting. No date is specified, but the tools of our times abound as Freddy zips around the Washington, D.C., environs. He might appreciate email, Google Maps, the Internet, AI, and the electric cars that were mentioned, but except when necessary, he leaves others to use them. For himself, he opines, “These stupid phones are making us all brain-dead. You see those dystopian horror shows about the zombie apocalypse—Well we’re already there. Only it wasn’t some virus or toxin that rotted out our brains. It was the iPhone and the Android.”

The mix of old and new, of cynic and optimist, of action and reflection, makes Freddy a believable character and the mystery an intriguing poser. Chapters are short, presenting one scene or situation at a time, so that the story is easy to follow and digest, and keeps a steady pace forward.

Intermittently, Freddy shares some of his philosophy, or asks himself big questions. For example, when considering remarriage in terms of his career, he wonders: “How can you have a stable home life when you don’t even know when you’ll be home? When you have to travel at a moment’s notice, sometimes for days on end? How can you be calm and pleasant and fun to be around when your job is to root out liars and cheaters and thieves?”
Indeed.

As it happens, the woman he wants to marry is Claire, a prime candidate for understanding and accepting his way of life since they already work together. The resolution of their affair will likely occur in a later volume, assuming the author continues the series. Here’s to hoping he does!

Quill says: 32 Minutes is a tricky whodunit written in a brisk, straightforward style, peopled with plausible and quirky characters that readers can root for against deplorable bad guys.

Everyone is a suspect in this perfectly paced, hard-hitting whodunnit.

When we first met private detective Freddy Ferguson in BestThrillers.com Book of the Year pick Gate 76, Freddy was 34-years-old and still largely defined by his former career as a prize fighter. Now pushing 40, the veteran PI is wiser and more perceptive, but still just as tough.

In 32 Minutes, Freddy is hired to find missing Chief Technology Officer Karl Larsson, whose last known location was a Sunday night visit to his corporate office. Early on, Freddy discovers that Larsson lives in a dump, once had a cocaine habit and is nearly a million dollars in debt. Adding to his troubles, a car crash while he was under the influence left him with a DUI and judgements from two civil suits. More recently, he fell off a ladder and started taking Percocet for the pain.

But here’s the real disconnect: just before his disappearance, Karl seemed to be growing more optimistic. According to his wife, he started looking at dream vacations: Paris, Nice, the Caribbean.

And it’s clear someone doesn’t want Freddy to find out what happened to Karl. Not long after he spots a blue Ford Explorer following him, Freddy finds himself fighting for his own life. And as Freddy gets deeper into the case, he won’t be the only one at his firm in danger.

In this meticulously crafted whodunnit, author Andrew Diamond ensures that nearly everyone has a motive for Larsson’s disappearance. Larsson’s wife and former security guard Cade Weller can’t be ruled out. And then there’s Karl’s boss, Leighton Graham, “the corporate equivalent of the malignant narcissist every woman seems to have met on Tinder.” Along the way, Diamond cleverly tackles toxic tech culture – especially what passes for leadership coming from the C-suite. Of one such exec, Freddy astutely observes, “He truly believed that those of us working unglamorous, underpaid jobs did so because we weren’t capable of doing better…The smart ones up top, like him, were put here to take advantage of the dumb ones down below, like me.” Every utterance Freddy observes on corporate leadership and society’s digital divide comes off as essential, hard-hitting truth.

Created to work as a stand-alone novel, 32 Minutes is a brilliant introduction to Freddy for first-time readers. Longtime fans of Diamond’s Claire Chastain series will cheer her appearance as well. Brace yourself for an action-packed, emotional ending.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Stolen Time Press for an advance copy of 32 Minutes, the third novel to feature PI Freddy Ferguson, set in Virginia.

Freddy is hired to find missing tech executive Karl Larsson, who disappeared mysteriously from his workplace on a Saturday night. Freddy doesn’t like Karl’s boss, but a job is a job and works with sparse clues to get to an unexpected truth.

I thoroughly enjoyed 32 Minutes, which is a fun read that goes in directions I didn’t expect. The novel has some adult themes and violence so it’s not a cosy, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. This is due to it being told from Freddy’s first person point of view and he’s likeable if not totally reliable (in a work sense, not narratively). He’s more worried about proposing to his girlfriend, Claire, than the case, although he’s pretty serious about the case.

The plot is fun. Karl Larsson has more problems, mainly financial, than an executive should have so that’s a line of enquiry. He was last seen by the security guard who only thinks straight when smoking weed - I laughed out loud at how he passes the mandatory drug tests - and he has a story to tell. After that it seems like serial mayhem with one event after another. To cap it all the bad guys get their comeuppance and Freddy finally gets round to proposing. It’s not a long novel but it covers a good amount of ground and is highly entertaining.

32 Minutes is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

I was happy to get an advance copy of Andrew Diamond’s new (third) entry in the Freddy Ferguson series because, with a Diamond book, you know in advance that you can’t go wrong reading it. Diamond is a master of modern noir detective stories and 32 Minutes doesn’t disappoint.

Here, Ferguson, a former professional boxer turned P.I., is hired by Leighton Graham, the CEO of a tech company, to find an employee who simply disappeared one night. Other reviews describe Graham as obnoxious, imperious, and arrogant. I’ll be more blunt. The guy is a total a******.

But Freddy’s a professional and someone has to pay the bills at his small P.I. firm, so he reluctantly agrees to take the case, only to find puzzle piece after puzzle piece that don’t fit or add up—along with grave danger to him and his lover-business partner, Claire.

Freddy’s a great character. He’s real. He has flaws and internal struggles, but is an honorable good guy, the kind of guy you’d like to have a beer with, the kind of friend who would always have your back.

Interesting characters, a tight, intricate plot, and excellent writing. Like I said, you can’t go wrong with a Diamond book.

Freddy Ferguson, private investigator, didn’t care much for the arrogant attitude of the company’s current client. At first, he thought it was only his take on the person. Later, he learned that he wasn’t the only one who felt this way. What kept him going with the case was the information he gathered on the missing person, Karl Larsson. The deeper Freddy dove into the disappearance of Mr. Larsson, the more he realized things weren’t adding up. The more invested he became in the investigation, the more he felt the need to discovery the truth.

Mr. Diamond did a wonderful job of keeping me invested in the story from beginning to end. To me, the characters and the situations, within this book, were realistic. Since, this novel was written in a first-person perspective, I had the benefit of seeing Freddy’s thought process firsthand.

Side Note: This is the third book in an ongoing series, I highly recommend reading the other two books beforehand to better understand the background of the recurring characters.

32 Minutes by Andrew Diamond is the third book in the Freddy Ferguson series, featuring the former boxer turned Private Investigator. Freddy doesn’t care too much for his new client, a corporate cost-cutter executive who is rude, blunt, and wants a competent job done. His Chief Technology Officer has gone missing, without any apparent reason or explanation. Freddy investigates using his own intuition, which his client finds fault with but then a body turns up, concluding the case. As Freddy struggles with a big decision in his private life, he finds himself in danger and dissatisfied with the outcome. With its enjoyable mix of interesting characters and twisty crime mystery, this is a three stars suspense thriller rating. With thanks to Stolen Time Press and the author, for an uncorrected advanced review copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own, freely given and without inducement.

32 Minutes - That’s All The Time That’s Left

Freddy Ferguson has been hired to find Karl Larson, who has disappeared without a trace. Karl’s boss, an obnoxious man named Leighton Graham, says he’s invaluable to the firm and he wants him back immediately. His wife says Freddy has been more upbeat lately, after the struggles they’ve had he’s talking about getting out of debt, buying a house in an upscale neighborhood, going on vacation and living a better life. Karl was working alone late one evening and just disappeared. As Freddy digs in deeper he finds that things just don’t add up.

Freddy is not one of the comic book heroes that never makes a mistakes, he’s honest, hardworking, and somewhat flawed, but he doesn’t give up on this case even after he’s fired. He keeps asking questions, examining clues, and getting in deeper. He’s running out of time, will he be too late?

Tech executive Karl Larsson mysteriously disappears from his workplace over the weekend. PI Freddy Ferguson is hired by Karl’s boss, CEO Leighton Graham, to investigate. Graham, arrogant and obnoxious, is immediately a character most will not like.

Early on we discover Karl has serious financial issues, some drug use in his past, and a mistress. Could those be factors into his disappearance or is there something more going on? The search for truth proves more dangerous than imagined.

With the very likeable and believable main character narrating, it’s a fast paced detective novel with just enough twists to make it compelling. It’s the third in his Freddy Ferguson series, which I had not read before, but I’m looking forward to reading Diamond’s previous work now.

This another Freddy Ferguson story. I will tell you right up front this is the first one of the series the story line did not make me feel like I needed to read the first two. Freddy Ferguson is a private investigator who works for a firm that also employees his current girlfriend. He is contacted for a job by a company called Recursion Talent when their Chief Technology Officer up and disappears. Its Freddy's job to find out why was another girlfriend, stealing money, technology thief? But Freddy has to deal with a literal pain the butt CEO who thinks he is way above everybody else and he will let you know it. This company as an AI division that has produced a special surveillance ware. This story is fast paced from the start and overall, a quick read with many twists and a secondary story line where Freddy is trying to figure out what the future holds for him and his girlfriend.

32 Minutes is well written and characters are realistic. Freddy Ferguson is a former boxer that handed in the gloves to become a PI. Freddy is practical and true to life. He has flaws, doubts, and uncertainties. Yet has charm, confidence, and is likable. This is book three in the series but a stand alone novel. Ferguson takes a case to find a missing coworker and partner in a corporate office. The man that hires him is arrogant, overbearing, impatient and bossy. These two men mix like water and oil. Ferguson needs the income so he keeps the job. Soon he learns someone will stop at nothing to end this case. I gave it 3 stars because I was not surprised by the outcome I did not feel it had any twist. Thank you NetGalley and Stolen Time Press for an ARC in exchange for my review.

Freddy Ferguson is a former professional fighter who has become a PI. He is called in to locate a missing man by the CEO of the man’s company, a tech company that is going through a turn around. Although Freddy does not like the CEO (he is arrogant, demanding and unpleasant), Freddy reluctantly agrees to take the case. His investigations lead to murder, an attempt to murder him, Claire, his lady friend, being the victim of an attack, stock fraud and more. It is well plotted and well written (many of the characters seemed noir to me) and fast reading. Thanks to Net Galley and Stolen Time Press for an ARC for an honest review.

The first of the Freddy Ferguson books I’ve read and I’ll definitely be going back to read the first two. This book was so good.
A corporate executive goes missing and Freddy Ferguson is on the case to find out what happened, hired by the very unlikeable Leighton Graham.
Karl Larsson (the missing person) has financial woes, a drug problem and a mistress - did any or all of these play a part in his disappearance?
Or is there something else.

A definite must read from me. Twists and turns that kept me glued and a satisfying conclusion.

Thank you to Stolen Time Press and NetGalley for my ARC.

Thank you for the opportunity to preview 32 Minutes. This was really good. I didn’t realize this is book 2 of a crime series but it didn’t matter. And I read this authors 1st book in 2018. So that being said this is a fast paced crime novel that will keep you guessing till the end.
Freddy Ferguson is a private investigator and he gets a case to find a missing man for a large company. The owner is rude and overbearing but Freddy takes the job.
Soon Freddy finds himself in the middle of a murder and he might be next. Buy Freddy won’t give up till he solves the crime or die trying. 4 stars

The reader does not know the significance of the title until more than half way through this well written thriller. Even then, this reader did not figure out its significance. The plot revolves around the disappearance of a man employed by a tech company and the various characters and situations surrounding the investigation. The prose is excellent and the entire novel was compelling and interesting reading.
I thank NetGalley and Stolen Book Press for the opportunity to read and review this book prior to publication and I look forward to reading additional books by Andrew Diamond.

I read this after I got the 2nd book free on Bookbub and had to get the other two as they are so good. I like Freddy's character, he is so human and has to see the job through to the end. Even if it is not being paid for the people involved will get justice, especially the guilty ones as he will not rest till they pay their dues like Graham who is a sociopath of the highest order and almost gets away with murder and insider trading robbery of millions of dollars.

I honestly skimmed through this. Some of it was really good and some of it did not hold my attention at all. i thought the investigation had moments where it was really drawn out and some of the situations he put himself in were just ridiculous. Seemed obvious that the he shouldn't go with the druggie that needed a fix and then seemed surprised that he was robbed and beat up when followed, stuff like that.

A good who done it? What happened to Karl Larsson? It is up to Freedy Ferguson to find out. This book will keep you guessing all the way to the end which is always the making of a good book. The characters are all good as well and the story is one that will keep you guessing along with Freedy’s life which just adds to this story. The ending is really good and a very good book. Good, quick mystery/detective read that I finished in three late-night sittings. Although the total page count was just over 200, Andrew Diamond's all-killer-no-filler writing style packed a lot of story into its brevity that I could still sink my teeth into. Sometimes I just need a break from my beloved Ken Follett tomes and veer off for a while with a few edgy, fast-paced books, so I'm looking forward to reading more from the Freddy Ferguson series.

The lead character makes this book so much more than a thriller. He is an engaging man who is flawed but so appealing that you can’t help forgive most of them. It’s a nail biting plot, too, with time ticking towards what seems like inevitable disaster and you’ll want to keep reading to see if Freddy saves the day!
