Human genetics has blossomed from an obscure branch of biological science and occasional explanation for exceedingly rare disorders to a field all of its own that affects everyone. Human The Basics introduces the key questions and issues in this emerging field, common ancestry of all humanityThe role of genes in sickness and healthDebates over the use of genetic technologyWritten in an engaging, narrative manner, this concise introduction is an ideal starting point for anyone who wants to know more about genes, DNA, and the genetic ties that bind us all.
Bought this after enjoying some posts on the author's blog on PLoS (http://blogs.plos.org/dnascience/). It mostly worked well as an introduction to the field of genetics for a clueless reader like me, although it went into less detail than I would've liked in some areas (e.g. copying and repair mechanisms, DNA vs. various types of RNA, etc.) and assumed too much existing biology knowledge in others.
