کتاب شامل نقل‌قول‌های گردآوری شده از روانکاوان مختلف برای تعریف کردن و تشریح برخی اصطلاحات مهم در روانکاوی است.
ترجمه خوب است اما روان نیست. همچنین آوردن منابع در جلوی جملات به صورت پرانتز، انسجام متن را به‌ هم ریخته و تمرکز خواننده را مخدوش می‌سازد.

Bir kitap yazsaydım muhtemelen bu tarz bir kitap yazmak isterdim. Kitap, psikanalitik kavramları 3 aşamada ele alıyor: Bu kavram ne amaçla nasıl ortaya çıktı? Tarihsel süreç içerisinde nasıl gelişti? Günümüz psikanalizinde nasıl kullanılıyor? ve bu 3 soruya da oldukça açıklayıcı bir şekilde farklı analistlerden alıntılarla net cevaplar veriyor. Kitap adeta bir kaynak cenneti, kitabın %10'u kaynakçadan oluşuyor ve psikanalitik literatürde araştırma yapacak kişiler için de oldukça yol gösterici. Kavramları bir sözlük gibi ele almıyor ve böyle bir derdi de yok, kitabın en büyük derdi bahsettiğim 3 soruya cevap verebilmek ve bunu çok tatmin edici bir şekilde yapıyor. Türkçe çevirisi de Bağlam Yayınları'ndan çıkan diğer kitaplar gibi çok başarılı. Psikanalitik kurama ilgi duyuyorsanız yolunuzun kesinlikle kesişmesi gereken bir çalışma olmuş.
