this was my favourite book i’ve ever read. one that i believe everyone should read in their lives. i picked it up one day off of my great uncle’s shelves while visiting him and talking about books because we both loved to read. he let me take it home with me and when i had finished and raved to him about how much i loved it and appreciated him lending it to me, he told me to keep it. my uncle dennis is now with the Lord and this book is one of the only things i have left from him. but i feel like this books sums up with incredible accuracy the man that my uncle was and the way in which he lived his life, for the Lord first and foremost, for his wife and family, and for others before himself. this book means so much to me and i am so grateful i picked it up that day.

i just wanted to leave a little excerpt from an email i wrote to bob after i finished reading because i just wanted him to know how much his writing had meant to me in my life.
“Your book has inspired me, comforted me, and given me so much hope in a time where I really needed it. There was a time I was sitting in a coffee shop by myself reading about your little football game you played as a kid and laughing so hard I was embarrassed. And a time I couldn’t sleep so I picked it up at 1am and cried when I read the poem you wrote for your dad because that was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever read. I just wanted you to know how much I admire your life and your writing and I hope to learn to appreciate life as much as this book does.”

This is a book of essays about family relationships and the legacies we leave behind. Bob Welch is a wonderful storyteller. He writes with just the right personal touch. Some of the stories are laugh-out-loud funny, while others are thought provoking pieces that encourage soul searching. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.

I found a used copy of this book in Georgia - a really nice, fast read about the traditions and legacies of families. A little preachy at points, but overall a feel good book that looks closely at the meaning and long lasting impacts passed down by the people in our lives

Excellent! Reading Bob is like mountain climbing - first you're up with laughter, and then you go higher with tears - tears of joy, tears of sorrow, feelings that someone else has been where you have been. Loved the shortness of the chapters - I could always fit one or two more in!

Awesome read and very quick and easy! Love the story when his wife is gone and he is by himself with the kids! So funny and real. Makes me think that every moment needs to count!

One of those heart-warming reads, Welch's stock in trade. I enjoyed it.
