Taking It To The Mat...Don't mess with North Carolina's Casey Jones-smart-mouthed ex-con, unlicensed P.I. and reluctant partner to a Barry White wannabe. Casey's big and bad, with attitude to match her altitude. Especially when she's been double-crossed.
At first, Casey proves a sucker for the fragile blond who claims her estranged husband has disappeared with their child. But when Casey locates the fugitive spouse a little too easily, she begins to suspect that the lovely Tawny Bledsoe has played her for a fool. Especially when Casey gets stiffed on the fee, then finds herself embroiled in a murder case with Tawny's name written all over it. Bad check in hand and a bad taste in her mouth, Casey resolves to stop Tawny once and for all, but the battle quickly turns personal when Tawny proves more than a match for the irrespressible Casey. Ego rattled, Casey laces up her high-tops to track her nemesis to Florida for a Saturday night catfight. Casey must leave her sweet-and-sour Southern ways far behind in order to prove that Tawny Bledsoe is one bad-to-the-bone babe who belongs behind bars-no matter what it takes to bring her down.

Strike 1: Bill is back. He refers to Burly as a "gimp". Strikes 2 and 3: The plot involves a white woman setting her black husband up for murdering a white man in southern USA.
If you enjoy strong, likeable, crazy and sad characters interacting in a twisty and well-written storyline, then you should read this book. Casey Jones is s private investigator who takes the case of a beautiful woman who claims she was beaten by her husband, a prominent member of the community, before disappearing with their daughter. From the moment, Tawny Bledsoe steps into Casey's office, the case takes a series of twists and turns that shows this author can write a mystery worth reading.
Casey has secrets but her funny and ethical outlook on life keeps the reader interested in the outcome of this case that involves lies, murders nd sex. The plot is genius and Munger definitely knows how to keep the reader engrossed in the story.
This book is for anyone who enjoys a mystery with believable, likeable and plain mean characters. From the first sentence to the last, you'll be reading as book that's easy to read and hard to forget.
I can't believe it's taken me so long to finally get back to this series. And now I've done something that I rarely do, I've read more than a single story in a series and one right after the other. I don't even do that with dreaded cliff hangers, but that's how good this series is. Normally I will read other stories and then come back and read another when dealing with series because I bore easily. Munger knows how to build believable characters, her books are cleanly edited, the plots flow, and the suspense builds to the bursting point. If there is a negative it would have to be sometimes they get a little long-winded. But hey, we can't have everything.
“Bad to the Bone”, fourth in the 'Casey Jones series' is the best instalment so far. Casey has finally found an enemy worthy of her skills. Tawny Bledsoe is a fading beauty, more to the point she's a psychopath. She's a cold-blooded killer and she's sent her husband to jail for her crime. For once, Casey is completely blind-sided and, initially, accepts Tawny's tale of marital beatings and infidelity. But, as the story plays out, it soon becomes clear that Tawny is a master manipulator – one of her pawns turns out to be Casey's deadbeat ex-husband! It's more tightly written than some of the previous books and it is the better for it. Highly enjoyable. 4 Stars.
My second book from this author and I hope there are more.
Casey is a tough faux detective, I say faux as her papers are definitely not in order. It doesn't stop her from settling scores and helping the innocents prove they are innocent. She has an ex husband, a boss who is twice her size and Bill the cop who helps and likes her. She goes after her prey and not much gets in her way. She is smart and fearless and is in love with Burly, her handicapped boyfriend. A large cast of characters allows her to shine.
There is some bad language in this book, but it doesn't seem to be out of place or overwhelming. There are crude comments as well. The sex happens between paragraphs or chapters. If any of these bother you, you probably don't want to read this book, anyway. That being said, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone who isn't bothered by a bit of those things.
Wherein Casey gets to help a woman who has been brutally raped and lost her court battle against the rapist and is now afraid to leave her house. She is getting threatening mail and calls and Casey moves in along with her whole gang as she tries to catch the guilty and protect her client. As usual she gets herself in a world of trouble but perseveres to the end.
Loved the main character Casey. She was one tough cookie. Never thought that she would ever trap Tawney. Glad she ended up with her boyfriend. Would love to read more from this author.
I love this & I can't wait for more. I will be also leaving a review on Goodreads @ Amazon. And letting everyone know about it. So i gave it a 5 Stars.
I finished the story and it was ok, but not a stand out. Maybe too many characters. I wasn't crazy about Casey. Couldn't relate to her way of thinking.

I love these Casey Jones mysteries. Casey is duped early in this story and vows to prove that Tawney Bledsoe's husband is innocent of a murder that Casey believes Tawney committed. This was a fast paced, foul mouthed, page turner. Loved it!
Unlike many crime series that go into autopilot, Munger's tales of an outrageous southern woman detective get better as the characters become more familiar. Just the right mix of hilarity and sobering emotional issues.
