For mariners studying for Transport Canada's SCS-4 exam via self-study, I found this book moderately helpful for the construction portion of the exam.
The information in the book is a bit more in-depth than what's required for level 4 of SCS, and can be a bit overwhelming as a result. However, the many construction diagrams are fantastic and very helpful visual aids in understanding the way that parts of ships are arranged. The diagrams can also help the student in preparing their own construction diagrams to be drawn, labeled, and explained on the test.
Chapters in this seventh edition that I found were relevant to the SCS4 syllabus are: 1-3, 8, 16-21, 24, 26, 31, and 32.
