Close enough to burn.

Suzanne Chazin is the author of two critically acclaimed, award-winning suspense series. Her “Jimmy Vega” series, about an upstate New York cop navigating the world of the undocumented was an American Library Association finalist for Best Mystery of the Year and an Amazon pick. Her Georgia Skeehan/FDNY series was hailed as, “searing and emotionally explosive” (USA Today), and her heroine, fire investigator Georgia Skeehan, as “incredibly strong” (People).
A graduate of Northwestern University, Suzanne worked for two decades in journalism, writing for Reader's Digest and The New York Times, and winning several national awards. Among her quirkier experiences as a journalist: profiling a doctor who used his kitchen ceiling fan as a centrifuge (he went on to win the Nobel Prize in medicine for his work), and visiting a small Georgia town that had a parade in her honor because they got the funny idea that she was actually somebody important.
Thank God her novel-writing career has disabused her of any such notion.

I wish there were more

As of now this is the last book in this series and I will miss it. I hope Ms. Chazin will write another someday. In the meantime I’ll keep enjoying the Jimmy Vega series.

I am probably biased, since one of my sons retired from the fire department after 20 years, however, I gave this book a five star rating because I really like it. When I picked it up I wondered why it was in the mystery section of our local library; but it does not take long to discover why ... this book is about a woman fire marshal in New York and after 9/11. It deals with big time crooks and the FBI. There is no filler description; just a fast moving story that held my attention from beginning to end.

This is probably the best of the 3 Skeehan books. Had me until the end. Skeehan is a great character and I hope there will be more to read soon. Ms. Chazin has been a fortunate find for next. I'm going to try her other series soon but these fire books will always be tops for me. I hope Georgia will have earned some respect from the FDNY in the books to come. She's earned it.

I like this author's writing style. I had read the 1st 2 books years ago, then came across this 3rd one. I am little disappointed the author has no more published works.

The last (sadly) book of the series (to date at least). Like the prior two Fireplay was a wonderful ride. The story keeps you on your toes. Here's hoping for a fourth.

#3 in the FDNY Marshal Georgia Skeehan series. Author Suzanne Chazin is married to a high ranking FDNY officer and her passion about arson shows in this series.

Georgia Skeehan investigates a fire in a restaurant that kills two veteran firefighters. Skeehan suspects extortionist Mike McLaughlin. He's been shaking down the owner and may have torched the restaurant when the owner got too far behind in his payments. But the FDNY can't investigate McLaughlin because he's an informant for the FBI - he helps the Feds spy on a radical environmentalist group. Skeehan has to go undercover in a joint FDNY-FBI investigation of both the restaurant fire and the Green Warriors, and she's torn between her loyalties to the two organizations.

A Little Something...

Different, for a change.

When I started with book one, it didn't take long to realize that I had read this book before. Back in the good old days of paperback.

Since the ending was not quickly jumping into mind, I continued through all three books. This is a nice change of pace from mysteries and sci-fi. The characters are strong enough to identify with and the plot holds together well.

I would like to see more stories about these characters. And, I would enjoy learning more about the life of a fire marshal.

All three books rate a high three, or a low four.
