This is my first book of Heckelmann's work, and I could not put it down. Fast-paced, attention-grabbing. Two cavalry lieutenants at the same post, one, Frank Holland (the reader quickly dislikes him) had been there longer than the other, Bob Dallas. Dallas and Holland had been in the same class at West Point, but Dallas outshone Holland to graduate first in the class

Solid writing, enjoyed this one. Published in 1947, so a bit early compared to the westerns I usually find thrifting. Had an interesting dynamic for a cavalry western, but got a little hackneyed with the antagonist being behind this plot and that plot and being generally amoral despite his standing in the army.
