10/27/25 so I've obviously watched the series a number of times, and SO MUCH of what's in the book made it to the drama. I'm not mad the drama added all the childhood entanglements with GTY. And they brought forward the QH stuff - kinda annoyed about it but not MAD. [And all the concubine Lin shit; feel like the drama dragged it out more ... and the added "vengeance for my mother" - though not mad about that either.]
Seriously, the author needs to light incense to the scriptwriters.

I'm trying to separate my feelings for the book from the drama ... it's a good book but it's not like that great, if that makes sense? Like I think I liked it more cuz my warm feelings for the book. The author I felt contradicted herself a lot, though I don't know if it was shit translation/MTL. Clearly the earliest posted stuff on NU ... it really seems person translated but JFC is it terrible and they at least definitely don't know English. Then the rest is [AI]MTL 😒 ... and I had to read the rest of it MTL, which is notorious about fucking up text/putting the opposite, and with the bad writing I had to question if I was getting what the author actually wrote/intended.
So ... the story was a lot better than the writing itself. But I can see why it was so popular. I DNF'd LLTG, read her xianxia one, have no interest in her modern one. No idea if she's written more books. If it's a historical I might give it a try. Not sure about re-reading Minglan. Definitely not mad I read it, happy I did. Would re-read at least my favorites before picking up this one.
