Fireseeds of Spiritual Awakening by Dan Hayes published by Campus Crusade for Christ (1995) [Paperback]

Rate this book
“I saw something…never witnessed before, the president and all of the faculty on their knees together praying for the unsaved students under their care.” -Linfield College, Global Awakening of 1907 For over two decades, Fireseeds has inspired us to pray, to expect the impossible, and to trust God for new works of His Spirit-in our lives and on the campus. Fireseeds is a proven tool for igniting campus wide, student-led prayer. But it is more than a book on prayer. It is a book of stories; stories of great prayer movements, revivals, and the students who gave leadership to them. This is not simply a reprint of an old classic. Fireseeds has been updated and expanded to include recent accounts of student revivals as well as stories from around the world and not simply the U.S. The new Fireseeds also recounts the contribution of women to these revivals as they are often overshadowed, and contains an additional chapter on the filling of the Spirit (including the Satisfied Prayer Experience). Last, the revised version opens with a foreword by Mark Gauthier, and a vision to trust God for movements everywhere.

Fireseeds takes a perspective of revivals through scripture and actual historic movements where people having personal encounters with Christ, and then wholeheartedly following up that encounter with a radical change to make Jesus’ name known to the unreached peoples. Hayes’ findings are that most movements were inspired by college age people that had a burden for the lost, and then advocated that something needs to change after experiencing said revivals.

Cool stories of revival from over the past few hundred years. Challenged me and the way I view prayer as a means for ushering in God's work.

The first time I read this is flipped my thoughts about prayer upside down. I would have given it 10 stars. But after reading it a second time it didn’t have the same effect. But it still moved me to prayer and for that I still think it’s 4stars- everyone should read it

Definitely recommend reading if God has placed a passion of revival on your heart. Gives great examples of how revival has started in the past and how anyone can make a difference through the Holy Spirit.

Good read that retraced historic revivals in the 18th-20th centuries to the prayers of a faithful few, many of whom were college students! Also provided a helpful definition of revival as “nothing more than renewed zeal to obey God”.
