The idea of shapeshifters--beings both human and animal--ignites our imaginations with visions of primal passions and insatiable hungers. Most commonly seen as dark, masculine demons, shapeshifters are in need of a metaphysical overhaul--a new feminine/Sapphic blending of physical power and inescapable desires.
"She Shifters" re-envisions common and not-so-common myths and deliver a fresh perspective from the storytellers. Traditional lycanthropes and feline familiars appear, was well as more obscure, lesser-known mythologies from around the world to create inventive tales celebrating feminine power, lust, and erotic love.
Paisley Smith's "The Night Crow" finds two lovers, divided by centuries and a terrible sacrifice, reunited in London. In Christine d'Abo's, "Scorched Retribution," a human woman has come home after a ten year absence, hoping to make amends with the one person whose heart she'd broken. But the heart of a dragon isn't easily won and the woman must offer herself up for retribution or risk losing her lover forever. In Angela Caperton's "Sweetwater Pass," the eldest daughter in a family of shape shifters heading to California in the era of the great wagon trains, meets a Native American "sister" and finds the promise of the West fulfilled.

Stories are ok but don’t waste money on the audiobook. The narrator is terrible! Her normal speaking voice is fine but her “other voice accents” are awful and insulting to anyone with the actual accent.

Beautiful women . . . or so you would think at first glance. Lust filled pages, tender touches, beautiful imagery, are all things that make this anthology a steamy, leave you breathless kind of read.
*Warning* Do NOT read sitting in your car, guaranteed to fog the windows and thus encourage the attention of any passerby to inquire as to the reasoning behind said fogged windows.
In The Night Crow by Paisley Smith
Tennessee to London, what would have one woman traveling this route? Dreams . . . that’s what would have this journey taking place. It hasn’t been safe to sleep at home, but falling asleep on the plane should be just fine. Surely, these “dreams” won’t come while on a plane full of people …
Traveling this distance all because of dreams, SANE or INSANE? Only time will tell. Short tale of heat, lust, witchcraft, all around fight for understanding that will leave one breathless.

Alaska, beautiful land and home to things unknown. Even in the unknown . . . everyone wants love, right?
Thinking she has her life figured out, traveling back to Alaska seems like the perfect way to put an end to the past and move on to the future. It’s not always that easy . . and in the end, will the mind or heart win out?
Just samples of what you will find in this anthology. 15 authors, 16 stories of Lesbian Paranormal Erotica. Each story packed full of lust, heat, and loving women. Stories that will leave you panting . . . and possibly looking around with wonder . . . are things really as we see them to be, or . . .
Simply put, a must read for anyone with an open mind about the love that can be shared between women, as well as open to the thoughts that things aren’t always what they seem.
Anthologies are a funny old medium; on the one hand, you're getting quite a few different stories for your buck. This collection, for instance, has 16 separate pieces from 15 different authors; that is great value for the ebook price of $10. Nothing overstays its welcome either; on average stories run to only about 17 pages each.
On the other hand, that's not a lot of time to develop characters we genuinely care about, with plot and the apparently obligatory sex. The first story, for instance ("The Night Crow") probably needs fifty pages or more, and the condensed narrative presented instead feels rushed and haphazard. Like I was explaining before, however, these stories come and go with such speed that the duds amongst the lot can be sidelined in the memory.
And some of the stories are really ace. When all these elements come together neatly it is superb, and well worth the patience to reach them. I gave an extra star to this collection just for "Island Life", which was charming and hopeful in all the ways one wants their fiction to be. I have a weak-spot for Selkie fiction, and this is one of the better ones (and the least depressing) that I have come across.
Overall I would highly recommend this book. It is great value, contains some real gems, and only has a few fizzers.
Paranormal things are not my favourite. In fact, I'm barely alright with supernatural things - I don't watch ghost movies at all, and don't read ghost stories. But I read She Shifters anyway, and I was pleasantly surprised.
Of course, as with Cleis Press publications, the sex is always of a certain standard. All the stories managed to make the relationship between human and not-quite-human sound real and believable, and weave in feelings and passion even when it's just a quick fuck. In fact, in most of the stories, the fact that one of the ladies can shape-shift just adds to the addictiveness and mystique of the stories. Overall, an enjoyable read.
So, it's closer to a 3.5. All of the stories are very well written. I didn't enjoy Handler. The narrator was a bit weepy. Her emotions all over the place. No clear favorite. Very quick read, but all stories have a tingle factor that makes you want to slow down. Sweetwater Pass, The Dragon Descending, and Bound With Bronze are definitely worth reading.
This volume seems primarily like a missed opportunity. There's a nice diversity of heroines (ethnic diversity, if not much evidence of bodily diversity) and there's actually only one werewolf story. But these really are pretty slight - and also, especially for a volume themed in this way, pretty vanilla.
There's good storytelling, good characters, and good writing all in truly short short stories. If you only have a few moments, read one story. If you have longer, I dare you to quit at one!
