Hooked: Confessions of a London Call Girl

Rate this book
In Hooked , reformed addict Clare Gee draws on her own experiences of cocaine addiction, alcoholism and prostitution in telling the sensational story of a woman living on the edge.Emotionally scarred by having never known her mother, Katie escapes to London and immerses herself in a seedy world of drugs, drink and sex, chasing happiness in the pubs and clubs, and snorting cocaine in private members' bars with her rich punters.Finding herself in a cycle of prostitution and unable to break free, she turns to drug smuggling and becomes embroiled in a bigamous marriage in an attempt to secure some emotional stability. From this dark emotional pit, Katie starts her painful journey back to 'wellness' and attempts to rid herself of her addictions for good.Hooked is a graphic tale of how life as a prostitute really is and what can happen when we search for happiness outside of ourselves. It is a poignant reminder that things can always get better, as long as we remember that when it's time to leave the party, it's time.

This book was... I won't say really good because it had some very upsetting things happen in it but it was interesting. This book really wasn't anything I could relate to (phew), I grew up in a loving, warm home with stable parents. I didn't have mommy and daddy issues which led to self destructive behaviour like boozing excessively and snorting cocaine and becoming a hooker. It was not a very happy book, although the ending was hopeful. The whole time I was rooting for Katie to stop listening to her demons, or Goblin Kate, and get her life in order which I know is easier said than done. An interesting perspective for sure. I actually kind of like books that I can't relate to, they usually make me grateful for the life I have.

i think this was a very honest and trutful and warts and all lookin to the world of the author and she has come through all these stages off her life and is a real awesome young woman, beautiful strong yet vulnerable, some slite insecurities, but lovely and im sure she will go on to have many more successful books , she deserves happiness and sucess and i count her as a friend and am priviledge to kno her, i have read her blogs which are awesome and when the book is published in 2010 i will be buying a copy for sure

When I picked this up at the library the lady at the desk said jokingly "looking into a new line of work are we".(oh ha ha!) Well this book would certainly do away with any thought that people may have about prostitution being glamourous. This was tough and gritty but somehow I was always rooting for her to survive and by the end of the book I was hopeful that she would indeed make it out the other side and be strong enough to leave her old life behind. Unlike other reviewers here I have not read her blog so did not know anything about the writer, but I am now going to look up her blog to see what she is doing now. A really good read

The call girl part of this book was barely there and it was mostly about the neurotic author being superficial and drugged up and wondering how to get her next hit. I suppose she was hoping her book would turn out salacious and scandalous, but mostly it was a few hundred pages of eye rolling, wishing that she'd snap out of her immensely childish attitude.

Which she did in the end so I guess there's a moral of the story there somewhere. I just couldn't care less.

Awesome. I read this when i was travelling. It's really eye opening ont only regarding the lifestyle of a 'high class' call girl but also the emotional side of an individual. It dirty as hell in some places (as you would expect) and it does go into detail regarding some encounters with clients - but that is what makes it so good. ;)

Clare Gee takes us into her life like no one has done before. She is by far the most fascinating and entertaining writer that I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Run do not walk to get you hands on this gem.

Clearly couldn't be bothered to write a review after reading it and now 2 months later have no recollection of what I thought of it other than obviously I didn't like it. Looking at other people's reviews I think it's quite safe to assume I found her annoying.

An excellent read. God help us if we have to go through what Miss Gee does.
This will be a best seller on both sides of the Pacific.

Relentless, in a true fashion of an addict. Leaves you mentally exhausted after finishing it in one sitting so you don't have to look at it ever again.

A little trashy of a story. It was definitely eye-opening.
