This book is the perfect starting point for any newcomer to the field of forensic science. It examines the entire process of conducting forensic science, from the collection of evidence at the crime scene, through the examination of that evidence, to the presentation of scientific findings in court. The book is scientifically rigorous but written in a friendly and engaging style making it the ideal companion for undergraduate students beginning a forensic science course; as background for MSc students; as a reference for related professions such as lawyers or police officers; or simply for the casual reader who wants to learn more about this fascinating area.
Read the first edition as part of my degree studies. This book gives a concise and broad explanation of the various forensic science techniques, with respective case studies for a number of the techniques used. Great book as a beginners guide, giving the main necessary points to build on.
An extensive textbook for people studying forensic science or even those who are interested in finding out more. I like the layout of the book which was very concise and informative. The use of the bulletpoint format for key points deserved a praise. The appendix was useful too, overall an essential book for beginners in this field.
Overall this book gives a nice introduction into the field of forensic science, it might be a bit basic but especially if you never dealt with a topic this will help you a lot building up some basic knowledge. The only problem I had with this book was that sometimes I couldn't apply the knowledge due to the fact that it was written about how everything is dealt with in the UK and Wales...
This book is a required text for my Open University short course S187 Forensic Science. It covers far more than the course requirement and is straightforward to read.
