This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. About the author

Ruth Ogden was the pen name of Fannie Ogden Ide, a late 19th century American children's book author. Several of her books, such as A Loyal Little Red-Coat (1890) and Loyal Hearts and True (1899), are based in part on historical events. Critics often used the word "charming" to describe her books, and one critic praised her for "purity of tone, animation of spirit, and good English style".

Her books were illustrated by F.C. Gordon, George T. Tobin, Henry Alexander Ogden, and W. Rainey, among others.
