Some more adult references, not connected storyline, and body shaming in this series. If you like this series concept, read the Snow White and the Letting it Go books because those are much better than the first 3. Also, so much boy stuff. :(
Miss 7 enjoyed it. It's largely one-page vignette's but builds overall to the class' show at the end (Romeo and Juliet). There is some racial diversity but it's a largely white cast. I wish there was more body diversity and they didn't body shame Lucie (which ends up being an ongoing 'joke'). It's probably a fairly accurate representation of the level of dance the teenagers are doing but I wish the messaging was better for a children's book. The romance is kept very simple; as is the 'villain' - there is no complexity to Carla's character.
Miss 7 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.
I think this series is a good series of books 📚 because it is funny 😂 although sometimes it can be kinda inappropriate. I don't recommend this book well I would but, again as I said it is kinda inappropriate so I don't recommend for starters in reading but if you are a age 11 and upper I think you guys would be allowed to read it but if you are younger like me because I am 8 years old I don't recommend it.
The dancers are working up to another recital, this time the performance of Romeo and Juliette. Lucie is snacking, Alia is working hard, Julie is attracting admirers, and Carla is scheming. Some things never change.
If you liked book one, you'll probably like book 2, since they're pretty similar. There aren't a lot of original jokes in here, but the dance mood is relatable.
it is very good for work a lot of things but it has kissing again I'm not a lot of kids can read that so I'm thinking I'm giving this a 3-3 stars because I honestly don't know about this one
Petite relecture de ma série BD préférée pendant ma semaine de bac pour me détendre. Toujours un plaisir de me replonger dans cet univers notamment avec les vignettes sur Roméo et Juliette.
Text to self: I found that this book related to a lot in my life, the thing that stuck out to me the most was the fact that the girls in this book are dancers and they like to one up each other. I remember when I was a dancer and the girls in my class were very competitive and we loved seeing who could outdo who. We would have competitions of who could turn the most times and who could leap further and as I was reading through this book, I thought about all of the fun times that I had in dance class and pictured my dance class friends and I as the main characters in the book.
Text to text: I think that because the book has many "mean" girls in it I kept thinking about the movie Mean Girls and how the movie was alike to the book. There are many times where there is one really mean girl who is in dance class with the others and she stands out from all of the other girls and that reminded me of Regina George in the movie. For instance when the girls are learning how to properly stretch, one girl (Carla) is incredibly vocal about how flexible she is and how she can outstretch the other girls and that really reminded me of Gretchen in the movie Mean Girls when she talks about her dad being the inventor of toaster struedel and how she brags about everything she does.
Text to world: Because the text is full of different ethnicities and full of diversity, I think that this can be related to the world by saying that even though some of us may be a different color, or weigh more or have a different hair color, we can all get along and participate in the same activities. The book does a great job at using diversity and multicultural aspects with the characters.
A sweet graphic novel of a bunch of girls who dance together and deal with the attitudes of each other while trying to put together the new performance of Romeo and Juliet.
I was excited to find a graphic novel series geared toward girls and dancing. This book has some good illustrations but there is no connected story line.
Dance Academy blijft leuk! Verliefdheid, heel veel dansen (en allerlei stijlen), koekjes (vooral een karakter blijft maar eten), en meer! Echt een aanrader. Ik lig af en toe helemaal dubbel. :)
