Leading students step-by-step through the research process required for writing term papers, this guide covers everything from reading for background information and keywords and applying advanced search techniques to evaluating information and developing a thesis statement. The book includes an MLA-based style manual with more than 35 sample citations for the types of sources most often used in academic assignments. In addition, this long-awaited revision has been completely updated to include search and citation techniques for electronic and Internet information. It also contains the new AASL/AECT Student Information Literacy Standards, a summary of the AECT Multimedia Guidelines, and a Teacher/LMS planning guide. Designed specifically for high school students, this user-friendly guide maintains the academic rigor demanded by top high schools. Grades 8-12 (and above).
This was good for it's time for sure, but if you're looking for a useful guide on modern research, this isn't it. Half of the "techniques" this book teaches are invalidated because of the internet. Not to mention it's bloated with glossaries and indexes that take up half the pages in this book. There are few good tips on how to organize and prepare for an essay, but that's about the most you'll get out of this.
I'm not saying this isn't a well-written book with proven strategies for research - it is. What I am saying is that students already think research isn't the slightest bit interesting, and this book is written in an unenthusiastic and not playful manner, which would confirm that assumption.
