"A timely satire that challenges the status quo through a delicate balance of absurd humor and compassion." --Kirkus Reviews
They didn’t always follow us. There was a time before the Blobs.
This is the official record—assembled from surviving footage, interviews, dramatizations, and conflicting eyewitness accounts. The first arrival. The first host. The first questions no one could answer.
Before the theories spiraled out of control. Before we stopped wondering why a Blob chooses its host… there was a single Blob that started it all.
Can humanity survive under constant, invisible surveillance— where punishment is delivered without warning, trial, or appeal, and life itself depends on understanding what not to do?
It’s amazing what we can accomplish when we don’t have a choice.
A thought-provoking story comprised of humor, suspense, mystery, and thriller. I enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it.
Marty is your average guy living his life, not bothering anyone, taking things day by day. His life is suddenly turned upside down when a mysterious blob appears and remains hovering over his shoulder. Wherever he goes, the blob follows. And it's protective of him, as unlucky persons find out. Government officials appear as suddenly as Marty's blob, and with a number of questions.
What is this blob?
Where did it come from?
What does it want?
Why did it choose Marty?
Scientists and the military work feverishly to learn more, but their situation goes from bizarre, to nightmarish when blobs appear all over the world, choosing 'hosts' same as Marty's blob. Chaos grips the human population in the face of the unknown, and as the blobs learn more about human actions and reactions, events unfold leaving people to question are the inexplicable blobs here to enslave and destroy the human population.... or save it?
This is my second book I've read by the author, and it is every bit as imaginative and well-written as 'Isolation Island' is. Johnny Moscato dabbles with the prospect of an alien invasion and how mankind faces this unexpected arrival. We also learn how our existence has affected our planet, and not all too favorably. This book leaves us to wonder if we take action now can we save our planet and ourselves, or do we need outside help to make the changes necessary for continued existence. The author has written a thought-provoking story comprised of humor, suspense, mystery, and thriller. I enjoyed it very much and highly recommend it.
This is the coolest book I've ever read. It would be awesome if we could each really have a blob. Our world does need an intervention like this. Maybe we can learn to do some cleaning of our own. I especially liked the trash being dropped on the big cities from our oceans and other bodies of water. I would recommend this story to any reader that enjoys some sci fi and fantasy mix.
It started out really good and I thought of different ways it could develop into a fast passed novel. However, it soon collapsed into what felt like a lecture about what was wrong with humanity and the way we treat each other and our planet. It just got boring.
I must admit that I was very hesitant about this book in the beginning. I was like blobs, really? But honestly once I got in a few chapters, I was hooked. I must admit I could take or leave the human characters but god I love Lenny B, he was like Flubber meets Wall-E. I also was shook to my core to see a book that takes place in Matamoros & could relate so much to the area. Overall, I thought this was a really interesting sci-fi book especially following on the tail of Covid, I liked that the blobs continued improving the world. I felt like some parts weren't really necessary like the Omega group but I enjoyed this book a lot!
This book was interesting! I give it 3.75 stars. It would have been higher, except I don’t know that I liked the ending. I really liked, though, all the positive and negative consequences & circumstances worldwide that resulted from the arrival of the blobs and the blobs’ mission. Super interesting.
The basic theme of this book is that there are blobs coming from somewhere that have intelligence and are extremely powerful weapon-wise. It starts off with one guy have a blob follow him everywhere.
The blob will people who try to use violence which is kind of an over-reaction in my opinion. This all leads to the government and the military becoming involved. One group sets up a website to distribute truthful information about the blobs.
Marty, the first guy with a blob, becomes a target of various people who don't realize that attempted violence against him will get them killed.
Then things get more complicated when more blobs show up and more people die. The questions involve where are these coming from, why can't they be destroyed and what is their ultimate purpose?
It's a very interesting but very violent story. I'm not sure that I am down with the ultimate purpose of the blobs, though.
OK there are three things that I did not like about this work. Which is probably why I gave it only three stars. First, the ending of this book is the biggest let down I’ve ever read. It just ends. “ the end.” that’s it. It’s the biggest what town in the biggest blob of the whole book.
Second. It was very confusing to understand who was speaking, because the book is written in the first person. So, a lot of the paragraphs were start a conversation, say bubble, blah blah blah, I……. but you didn’t know who that I was. I didn’t know who the high was until I was 83% through the book I kept trying to figure it out and then I said I’ll just keep on reading. Not very professional.
Third, the book became quite depressing, because it reminded me so much of how today’s world is so freaking broken. Have you even noticed how broken our world is today. Nothing works. Nobody gives a crap about their job or customer service, nobody returns phone calls, nobody reads all the comments to the complete end, people don’t communicate with other people properly or with complete information, we have customer service where the phone rings to be put on hold then the phone hangs up on you. Then you have to start over again or they transfer you to another person and that person transferred you to another person and another person and then the phone hangs up, it just is a mess. It used to be, you’d call customer service, you get a person and you get an answer to your question or query. Your issue was resolved, but not today. And this book was all about violence and bad things that humans do to other humans like war, lies, cheating, narcissistic blood suckers, I mean it’s ridiculous . That’s it I’m finished ranting. Don’t read this book. It’s a waste of time.
Johnny Moscato, master of thrillers and suspense, hits us with another tense sci fi mystery with Blobs! When strange floating blobs appear in the sky all around the world, it’s up to humanity to band together to solve the mystery of just what are they, and can humankind survive their arrival. I love the mystery Moscato presents here. The blobs are strange, causing havoc if touched or attacked. It’s wonderfully simple, but oh so compelling! But Moscato’s strength always comes in his characters. They’re balanced well between being realistic enough, but also fun and likeable. The combination of great characters, a tantalizing mystery, and thought-provoking sci fi made Blobs a fantastically suspenseful read!
An enjoyable story. It keeps you hooked from the beginning and the first blob showing up. Full of examples about how badly humans treat Earth and each other. I think I am on the side of the blobs. Trigger warning: Violence (faces being melted off).
The only bad thing about the book is Chapter 61. It could be totally removed. It seems to have nothing to do with the rest of the book, is weird and just goes absolutely nowhere. Here's a quote from it "The Silent War has always been between these two survival tactics. One side wants to work together for the collective good of humanity. The other side wants to conquer, control, and destroy humanity so that a new norm can be established.” And, apparently this battle has been going on for "millions of years".
This novel started off strong, and I was really enjoying it. But the last 50 pages fell pretty flat. It felt rushed. The author introduced several new ideas and left them hanging. At times it got close to being a manifesto of sorts. The ending itself was also unsatisfying. It didn’t really answer anything. Reminiscent of the ending to the television series “Lost”.
Not recommended. I give it 3/5 stars.
[This review is for the novel “Blobs” by Johnny Moscato.]
First 90%. Mostly good characters, enjoyable writing style, a few plot holes. Too many of the character show up and are unreasonable homicidal or unthinkingly follow orders that are clearly suicidal. These cardboard folks detract from the sort of thoughtful responses of the others.
Last 10%. It sort of falls apart into odd conspiracy theories and broad strokes. Years pass, things happen without explanation or motivation. Major league creepy characters are introduced and nothing happens.
The book had enough parts that were cute and well written to make me miss my train stop.
Quite a strange story. For the first three quarters, it was somewhat interesting. However, there was too much global environmental alarmism, which became almost preachy by the end. And that contributed to what I thought was a weak ending. And took what could have been a 4 star book to a 3 star book.
Wasn't sure what to think about this book snyposis. I was suprised I enjoyed it this much and basically read it in one setting.
Yes, there's a strong appeal to environmentalism, especially toward the end. I'd challenge any hesitant reader to open up their mind and really look at the true message here -- protection is given where protection is earned.

Usually the “Blob” would be this big jellinistic thing that lived to devour or absorb people. Not so here. A very welcome respite, I wish it could come true. Sure there be panic, crazies, death but after a while I think that we would adapt as they had. Good read, don’t miss it.
This book started slow and drawn out but picked up speed. It was a unique read outside of my normal genre favorites but interesting enough to not regret reading it.
Loved the first 75% of this book and then the wheels fell off. The ending was rushed and incomplete, got bogged down in conspiracy theories and didn't fit with the rest of the book.

I was lucky enough to have an advanced read of this. It has an intriguing plotline that left me wondering "what if this could really happen?" I can't say much more without revealing the blobs' origin or intentions - but you'll certainly enjoy the read to find out for yourself.
Rarely do I leave a written review, but this book had me hooked from the beginning. After reading the blurb I had certain expectations which were completely demolished as I read the story…I’m shocked to say I’ve found a new favorite author
