Finished reading through this beautiful little Eastern Psalter very recently and not for the first time (after finding it again in a box still to be unpacked). I'm reading it again now. I've also been very very slowly reading Christ in the Psalms by Patrick Henry Reardon (starting about a year ago) and now The Shield of Psalmic Prayer by Donald Sheehan. I am not going to leave the Catholic Church ever in the world but the Eastern tradition does have a rich Psalmic wisdom, which is feeding me these days.
This is such a beautiful little physical book to hold, the typeset and illustrations have all been carefully considered and rendered beautifully. Even the paper quality and paper color have been carefully selected for the Psalter to tactilely serve its purpose as a devotional book well. The text itself is a beautiful English translation of the Greek Septuagint of the Psalms and features perhaps my favorite rendering of Psalm 83:11 (Psalm 84:10 in the Masoretic Hebrew text):
“I have chosen rather to be an outcast in the house of my God than to dwell in the tents of sinners.”
