How far will a mother go to save her child? What will a man do to protect the woman he loves?

Janna Kerr's eight-year-old daughter is dangerously ill and she knows her last hope is an unscrupulous doctor who -- for the right price -- will help her child. Secluded in a small cabin in the Louisiana bayou, Janna and Lainey wait for the summons. But when Clay Benedict shows up, an already desperate woman is pushed to the edge.

Clay, whose powerful Louisiana family owns this land, was just checking on the place. He didn't expect to be drugged and held captive by a beautiful woman whose secret is revealed the moment he looks into her young daughter's eyes -- Benedict eyes.

The last thing Janna needs is this powerful man affecting her in ways her heart cannot allow. Because nothing is more important than saving her daughter -- and Clay is getting too close to understanding the terrible risk she's willing to take. But in Louisiana, a man fights for what he wants . . .

This book was all kinds of weird and messed up. Yet, I dove into it anyways. Probably blacked out a couple of times but it was short enough that it didn't bother me.

Clay was just weird. I don't even care that I didn't read books 1-3 and if there's a book after this - oh well! Not going to dive into it. Mostly because this book was a for a specific reading challenge/task. Now that it's done and over with - I have moved on with my life. Well, I never actually wrote the review so I'm sitting here doing it now.

In this book, you will meet Janna and her kid Lainey. Her 8 year old daughter is pretty ill - so sick that she might even die. It just so happens, lady luck is on their side this time around because a knight in shinning kidney has arrived: Clay Benedict. It also doesn't hurt that he's her dead husband's twin - but details.

Seriously, this book was so freaking weird. One moment a kid is asking for his kidney - straight up with a dead ass serious face - and the next Clay and Janna are making out/having sexy time with zero regrets. Not even a letter.

It was weird and then it ended - thankfully! Overall, I'm okay with this weird ass book because it was around Halloween but just know - I wont be diving into this series for one more second.

Too weird for me. I'm sure this is supposed to be some sweet adopted family-romance kind of situation. If you're looking for that type of book go read this: The Last Letter. Clay had a very strange start. I couldn't tell if Janna was trying to commit murder or seduce him. Add to that some shady black market medical practices and I was highly creeped out after two chapters.

The story in this is okay, but it wasn't for me. The kidnapping and blackmail aspect were too weird for me and I could not get over it. Clay's developing relationships with both Janna and her child felt way too fast. He basically meets them, is kidnapped and then is like I'll do whatever you want. I'm sure I've read weirder stuff than this, but nope not for me.

I bought this years ago as a paperback and just got around to reading it. I think it’s showing it’s age or rather the era it was written in. I probably would’ve rated higher back in the day had I read it back then. It’s a decent one just not stellar.

This one drove me crazy because of the main female character. They made her seem batshit crazy the whole time and it got annoying. Other than that, the plot was good, but it didn't tell more about it.

Janna Kerr and her eight-year-old daughter are staying at the Benedict's family cabin. Janna's friend, Denise asks her cousin, Clay Benedict, to check up on Janna.

Janna ends up poisoning Clay and restraining him. Janna is desperate as her daughter, Lainey, needs a kidney transplant and their options aren't good. But Clay is Lainey's father's twin brother so he could be the perfect match, if Janna determines she wants to continue dealing with Dr. Gower to do the surgery. But Dr. Glower might be dealing on the black market for organs and dead bodies are turning up.

In the meantime, Clay has developed a relationship with his niece who he never knew existed. But can Clay convince Janna to give up the trust she has placed in Dr. Gower when it could lead to Lainey's death.

This is part of a series but this is the first I've read. It was supposed to be romance/suspense but was more romance. I think 2 1/2 stars would have fitted my rating better.

It starts out with a woman living in a summer camp with her young daughter who has renal failure. Clay Benedict whose family owns the property comes to check on Janna and Lainey. He is drugged and tied up. He seems to take this rather calmly.

Janna is trying to get a kidney for her daughter but is going to a questionable doctor and his nurse. A couple of young boys have been found in the lake with their organs missing.

Sounds like a good story but Blake just does not get it together. The characters are very unbelievable as well as the situation. Would you really put your daughters life in the hands of people who were not even nice to your daughter? And when the bodies are found, you don't put that together? I won't look for others in the series.

Ms. Jennifer Blake really never miss to amaze me. I have already read 3 of his Louisiana gentlemen series, and I love it all so far. The best series I had next to Janet Dailey's Calder series.
