C.D. Britt began her writing journey when her husband told her she needed to use her excessive imagination to write stories as opposed to creating a daily narrative for him. Ever since she penned her first words, life has been a lot more peaceful for him.

She currently resides in Texas where she has yet to adapt to the heat. Her husband thrives in it, so unfortunately, they will not be relocating to colder climates anytime soon.

Their two young children would honestly complain either way.

When she is not in her writing cave (hiding from the sun), she enjoys ignoring the world as much as her children will allow with a good book, music, and vast amounts of coffee (until it’s time for wine).

C.D. Britt is the author of Shadows and Vines and the upcoming book, Sirens and Leviathans.
Both books are part of the Reign of Goddesses series.

"You were meant to fly, Bryn, but they clipped your wings," Niamh whispered, and Bryn felt the power of those words, and what they meant, infuse her.
"It's time to get back into the sky. Hard to burn a witch from up there."

***I always try to be as objective as I can with my ratings for DARK THEMES & TRIGGER WARNINGS, SMUT TECHNICAL CONTENT/INTENSITY, SMUT QUANTITY, ROMANCE QUANTITY, ANGST LEVEL, ENEMIES-TO-LOVERSNESS; the ratings for CHARACTERS, WRITING, PLOT, SMUT QUALITY, ROMANCE QUALITY, are instead tied to my own subjective reading experience and final opinion of the book.

I've been very lucky when it comes to ARCs, lately, because I loved the majority of them and they gave me the opportunity to discover amazingly talented authors I didn't know existed.
C.D. Britt is definitely among them and this story captivated me right from the start.
The setting is unique and it reminded me a little of Michelle Modesto's Revenge and the Wild.
The reader is immediately introduced to Bryn, the lovely main character, and you can't help but fall a little in love with her spirit. I love the character arc she goes through during this first installment. Every time she stood up for herself, I whispered "you go, girl!" to my e-reader, because it's impossible not to root for her and love to see her thrive.
The plot is intriguing and well done. Once it picked up, I was glued to the page and could barely catch a breath because saying this book is action-packed would be a total understatement.
There was always something happening, always a new name to remember.
On the other hand, I'll admit that, because of this, some details were a little confusing, at first, but the author managed to give everything its proper meaning, at the right time.
In case you're like me and love your books with a heavy side of romance, you'll want to know that - aside from Bryn and her ex Declan tying up loose ends - there's very little romance, in this book.
And by little I mean, almost none, but if my spidey sense are working properly, there's the promising hint of a brand new one coming next in the air.

Sorry, I had to.
Anyway, you won't be missing steam and sweet nothings, because Bryn and her possible future love interest Kian, have great chemistry and enjoyable banter.
Also, friendship is one of the most prominent main characters in this book, and it's emotional af.
I loved Niamh so damn much. She and Jace were my favorites.
Britt's writing is absolutely delightful and I really can't wait to read the second book. I feel like we've only just started with this one and, considering the powerful ending, I'm pretty sure the author's going to step up her already impeccable game in the next installment.

many thanks to the lovely c.d. britt for the opportunity!

Please read the trigger warnings

First off I have to mention, this spectacular author is NOT getting the recognition she deserves! Her unique writing skill, the incredible richness she imbues the pages with is superb! And heck, when you combine this with gods and deities, it's a winning combination! From the opening chapters of every book I've read, I have a tendency to zone out the world around me and only "hear and see" what's leaping up from the pages. If you haven't read her previous books, The Reign of Goddesses series, you should.... now onto this book

Bryndis has a very unique talent, a talent that has her feared and branded as a witch, in a town that's more a sect than a functioning town. She's ostracised, set upon, bullied and abused by townsfolk and aunt alike, who I would gladly tar and feather and set alight, if only for her disgraceful behaviour towards Bryn. The only thing keeping Bryn together is her love for her cousin and her friends, who try to protect her from the townspeople, and what awesome friends they are. Jace, Justin, Niahm, Travis, Sage, Declan, although Declan is a real disappointment, to both Bryn and me, geez man, sins of the flesh and all that! And there's a Crow, as the title suggests, a cute, obnoxious Crow.. To throw a spanner in the works, we get to see the appearance of Kian, and the who he is, the what he is, the how he is, is so intriguing.

When an old woman and young man suddenly appeared and dropped a revelation in Bryn and her friends, their reaction to this was as though it was an apocalypse, which truthfully, it might just have been! From the way Ms Britt set up the story, throwing in little snippets and titbits, I had no doubt Bryn was something more, something different but when she and her friends are swept up in these revelations, my jaw dropped in utter shock! A definite, wait, what? moment.

Myths and legends, on a collision course, destined to explode, heck, they DO explode! And I was the one cradling the dynamite, watching it detonate all over the pages. You know that all encompassing feeling, when characters have a tendency to evoke strong emotions in you that you're reeling? Well these certainly do! The evolution of Bryn is magnificent, it was as though I was watching a stooped frail, timid individual slowly unfurling, straightening up, inch by inch, until she stood proud with her head held up high, as the fight between good and evil comes to a head in the town. A battle of note, of major confusion, bloodshed, with me screeching, "wake up Bryn! Remember Bryn!" while clutching a hand to my heart.

This book profoundly disrupted me, in a majestic way, my thought process going off on a tangent, to where, well, it was impossible to get an exact location! The author took me by the hand and steered me in a direction I had no choice but to comply with. Why I would, you might be baffled at my compliance but once this book is in your hands, you too will follow willingly and to traverse the path I've just completed, with as much appreciation as I have.

I read this book in 2 days. It was completely gripping, and I connected so deeply with Bryn. It was an amazing page-turner, and I am a happy bookworm after reading this book.

Bryn is abused by her aunt and completely shunned by the small town. She has secrets and barely lets her small group of friends know what happens in the shadows and behind closed doors. This story is Bryn becoming into her true self. All the side characters play an important role with Bryn, and I found myself completely emotionally invested in all of it. The setting was awesome, a small dystopia desert town with a cult religion ruling the town folks. I was just completely captivated and loved this book so much. I need book 2!

Prophecy of Gods and Crows is the start of a new series by C.D. Britt. I enjoyed reading her previous series about godesses, and was curious about what this one would bring. What will she have in store for her readers?

C.D. Britt brings Celtic mythology to life. Bryn has lived her life surrounded by whispers and accusations of being a witch. When you come from a family of healers and instead possess the ability to see a stranger’s imminent death when you touch them, you’re bound to be bullied and shunned out of fear. Her friends help to shield her from the townspeople and their suspicions. A rare sandstorm brings two strangers to town who possess information about Bryn and her friends. Their lives will never be the same.

Prophecy of Gods and Crows will keep you on your toes and turning page after page. You may think you know where the plot is going but, let me tell you, you don’t. If you enjoyed the plot of The Bonds that Tie (not the spicy parts) and the political intrigue of Crescent City, you will devour this book. A box of tissues needs to be included with every book. Maybe by the time book two comes out, I’ll be ready to be hurt again. Just do yourself a favor and read this book!

Thank you to C.D. Britt for the opportunity to read this amazing story!

This review is a part of the book tour for Bewitching Tours. This did not impact my review in any shape or form.

Prophecy of Gods and Crows, by CD Britt, is a young adult dystopian about a girl who, in spite of the brutality around her, finds her place amongst the gods. The story introduces Bryndis Keanneally, a girl who could see people dying. Because she was unable to fulfill her duties as a healer, the duty is passed onto her cousin, Jace. Seen as a horrific anomaly by the rest of the villagers, Bryndis takes solace in a select group of friends who, by fate or misfortunate, are fiercely protective of her. One day, Bryndis and her friends discover two people outside the gate of home. One of the guests, revealed to be the creator Danu, reveals that they are gods and goddesses who must fight to protect their beloved home. Suddenly thrust into a battle for the earth, Bryndis and her friends must face the corruption of the Church and those who ally for the false god in order to restore the beauty that once belonged to the world.

I love how Britt weaves Celtic mythology into the story. It reminds me of a darker, more twisted version of Meg Cabot’s Avalon High; there’s more at stake than just high school romances and the occasional broken heart. I like how chaotic Bryndis is, especially when it comes to her own revelations; then again, witches have always been revered for their rebelliousness and their casual flirtation with death, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. Even so, the characters aren’t removed from humanity. At first glance, there really is nothing special about them, save their humanity. I love seeing how protective Bryndis is of Jace, even if she does hide the truth from him. I love Justin’s relentless pursuit of fairness and justice, as well as Sage’s bookworm tendencies and her pride in her lineage (can you guess she’s my favorite yet?). I do feel that Mr. Raffety’s character is a bit of a let down, especially with how grand the other characters are. Moreover, the romance between Declan and Bryndis was a bit out of place, but again, due to the numerous plot lines in the story. I do hope that Britt expands this in the next novels.

I also like how the author shows the relationships across different lifetimes. For instance, I liked how Kian was introduced, as well as Niamh. In all honesty, I found these characters more intriguing than Bryndis herself. Ironically, these two represent the Morrigan than the actual character herself. I would love to see more of Niamh in the later novels. I’m also intrigued as to how Bryndis plans to utilize the Morrigan; after all, she is more than just the goddess of witchcraft and war, and death is her domain. In a delightfully demented way, Bryndis didn’t belong to the village; she’s too powerful to keep chained.

I do look forward to seeing more of Britt’s works. This book is lays a solid foundation for the series. I would love to see more of Bryndis’s destructive nature, and her struggles with balancing her humanity with her goddess-nature. Then again, I could say the same for all the characters. As such, I would give this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars.

I highly recommend PROPHECY OF GODS AND CROWS: CLAN OF SHADOWS Book One, as it has been an engaging and captivating read, earning a well-deserved ⭐⭐⭐⭐ rating! The book seamlessly blends elements from The Shannara Chronicles with the intensity of The Bastard Son & the Devil Himself, all within a dystopian fantasy setting reminiscent of Mad Max.

The story centers around Bryndis Kenneally, a remarkable witch with the ability to foresee one's impending death by mere touch. Trapped within a settlement that can only be described as a religious cult, Bryndis finds herself ostracized and forced to live in secrecy, constantly fearing the threat of being condemned and burned at the stake. However, her world takes an unexpected turn when a group of enigmatic strangers arrives, causing upheaval beyond what she already endures.

As I delve deeper into the book, I find myself thoroughly enjoying the journey. The main character, Bryn, is a compelling and relatable protagonist, and her cousin Jace and the sheriff add depth and complexity to the narrative. Yet, amidst the array of characters, my personal favorite is Finian, the loyal and endearing canine companion. Alongside them, the author introduces other essential characters, including Bryn's abusive aunt and her former lover, who betrayed her with the girl he cheated on her with. This careful and diligent introduction of each character, their motives, and the intricacies of the setting greatly enhances the reading experience. Some may find the pacing slower due to the comprehensive character and world-building, but I personally appreciate the author's attention to detail, as it lays a solid foundation for the next book.

In conclusion, PROPHECY OF GODS AND CROWS: CLAN OF SHADOWS Book One is an exceptional read that has thoroughly captivated me. I eagerly anticipate reaching the end of this installment and eagerly await the release of the next book. Hopefully, the wait won't be too long, as the anticipation can be quite agonizing!

This was a refreshing series debut. A young woman trying to survive another day in a town full of religious zealots who would be happy to see her burned at the stake. Bryndis was born in a family of "Healers" but couldn't heal anything to save her life. Instead Bryndis had the ability to see "Visions" which lead to her being ostracized.

This book took a look at how danger a religious community could be under the wrong leadership. The residents in the town of Ifreann serve a god they know nothing about but due to fear of the unknown and ignorance they follow like lost sheep heading for the slaughter.

All it took was for 1 weird sandstorm to blow into town and send Bryndis and her friends down a path they never imagined…….Or have they?

What to Expect: Dark Fantasy, PNR, Celtic Mythology, Dystopian Community, Religious Zealots, Witch Hunt, Ancient Prophecies, Found Family and elements of War and Death.

Bryndis along with her closest allies are thrust into fulfilling an Ancient Prophecy that they were always destined to fulfill. As Bryndis and friends learn who they really are as well as their purpose in this life; things in Bryndis life began to make more sense. Between understanding her role with the Ancient Prophecy, Dealing with a Shadow Man named Kian who is stalks her from the shadows and a Sassy, Sarcastic Crow Familiar; Bryndis has her work cut out for her.

If you want spice; this is not the book for that but if you want Dark Fantasy vibes, Suspense, Epic Battle Scene, A Ragtag Crew of Ancient gods, Fae and other Paranormals look no further. I literally cannot wait for Book 2 to see what happens next because the climax of the book literally had my heart racing!!!!

Review Title – Excellent 1st book in a exciting post apocalyptic world full of magic and celtic/irish throwbacks.

This is the first book in the Clan of Shadows series

✨Non Spoiler Review✨

Witches are powerful. These people here are not, and so they should fear you.”

Star Score - 4.5/5 ⭐ (C.D Britt writes a beautiful world with a unique magic system)
Spice Score - 0.5/5 🌶 (There is one scene)
Dark Trigger Score - 1/5💀🔪 (Check the trigger warnings)
What to expect/tropes:
🗡Celtic Mythology
🗡Animal familiars
🗡Dark Fantasy
🗡Post Apocalyptic Desert Town
🗡Found Family
🗡Witch Hunt
🗡Magic System
🗡Religion and Cult

Overall Review:
This story is full of rich character development, interesting magic systems, animal familiars, afterlife, myths and legends of old incorporating celtic mythology.

I enjoyed the banter in this story between the characters. The found family that is developed between the characters is strong and really makes you want to know what happens in coming books.

The story is heavy at the beginning because C.D Britt provides you with everything you need for the story to unfold. As you read on you realise that everything you read wraps up and gives you a entire picture with a small cliff hanger at the end. All of which leaves you wanting more.
Witch hunts, magic and animal familiars! Need I say more?

Trigger Warnings:Sexual content, religious trauma, religious cults, witch prosecution, domestic violence, abuse (past and present by family member), emotional abuse, scenes of war, and death.

I received a ARC of this book and am leaving a honest review.

Prophecy of Gods and Crows – Clan of Shadows #1 - Review

Couple: Bryndis Kenneally & Kian

Author: C.D. Britt

Tropes: fantasy romance, PNR, Celtic mythology, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, witch hunt, dark fantasy, found family

Review: For fans of mythology and folk lore this book is for you! CD Britt does an amazing job with this all new Celtic lore and Morrigan retelling. The book is from Bryn’s POV and chronicles her journey of finding herself after the town turns on her.

Bryn’s character was amazing to read and the complexity of her history, present life and prior ones was thrilling to unravel. She is a very strong FMC who learns to accept her fate after a stranger is found inside her town borders.

While this first book is not heavy in romance, we do meet Kian. Kian’s character was interesting to me with how he was introduced since we first meet him as a ghost haunting Bryn. The way his character evolved in this story and the events that unfolded his hidden past kept me on the edge the whole time. I found myself hoping that Kian’s missing memories were what were tying him to Bryn and not her being his killer.

The book also centers around Bryn’s prophecy and her eventual battle with the old gods. I had to read parts over again to make sure I did not miss anything during the final battle scenes and Bryn’s escape from the town. The book has strong ties to found family and myth with the inclusion of Danu and her protectors and then Bryn being Morrigan. I also enjoyed how Niamh was loyal to her throughout.

Rating: 9/10, wow a great first intro into this world!

A world of outcasts who became friends and found they were always destined to be together. Magic, fae, sex, war, a bunch of my things all in one book.

It started off extremely slow and at first was hard to get in to. The first 4 chapters had a lot of repetitive information, it was necessary information but stated several times which is why i felt it was slow and hard to get in to. That’s the only reason I gave 4 stars. Around Chapter 7 is when it starts getting busy and really gets you hooked. So if you start it and are like me give it a chance and push through because it does get better.

There are several trigger warnings but nothing has been extremely triggering to me so far. So make sure you check the trigger warnings before you read.

I still have a few chapters to go but I’ll come back and update when I’m finished.

Update I finished the book. HOLY SMOKES so ready for the next one. Bryn accepting who she is finally. The cliffhanger. Just read the book. So good

ARC Review:

Starting off with Bryndis in Ifreann, a desert town who keeps all out. Bryndis was meant for healing but her “fits” have caused her to be known as a witch in town. Carrying on with life until a crow appears, and with the crow brings hell. The Phantom Queen returns! I loved this celtic story so much! This series seems like it will be a hell of a ride! Also, for the first in a series, I loved the no romance starting off, but super stoked to see the super super slow burn romance! Such a beautiful book, with amazing witchy, found family, and dystopian setting! Ready for morally grey Bryndis and with newfound powers!

I was honoured to read this as an arc reader.

Bryn is an outcast in the town of Ifrean. It’s not long before we find out why. Irish mythology is woven into a time which may be far into the future where the world has changed. I had questions of whether it was set on Earth in a very different time, it doesn’t matter in some ways. The question tingles at the edge of thought as do a lot of questions about this book, because it’s a fabulously written story. It weaves the life of a person shunned with mythology and it draws them together well. It surprises. It has great friendships, and it made me cry at one point.

I’m not sure book two is written yet, but it’s in my TBR. Nameless, but mine.

DNF, around 55%.

I’m sorry, I really wanted to like this… but the writing style isn’t for me! The pacing is okay, but there is no nuance, and a lot going on in terms of characters that subsequently everything is laid out so plainly and over explained that the clues to the narrative sort of slap you in the face. It leaves you feeling sort of empty, so much so that I didn’t even care about what happened to the characters..

I don’t really know how to explain it, maybe it’s just me or my headspace, I’m debating whether to give this another chance.. but yeah, story interesting but execution not so much. 👀

The main character, Bryn is a sweet girl who is terrified of the town she lives in because she's been branded a witch and the town of Ifreann doesn't like people who are different. I absolutely loved her character growth and that she found her strength throughout the course of the book. I've never read a story with such a unique setting, but once it pulled me in, I had to know what was going to happen next. There is basically no spice, but I would LOVE to know what happens between her and Kian moving forward. I loved the banter and their connection.

I'm so glad I had the opportunity to read this book and can't wait to read more from C.D. Britt.

I received an arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book completely blew me away! I loved the Celtic mythology twists in this story so so much. And CD Britt is a new author to me but her writing style honestly had me hooked from the very beginning.

So many fantasy books feel similar and have the same rhythm, but not this book. It was entirely unique and I was completely invested in this group of characters. The found family trope is one of my favorites.

I can’t wait to read more books by this author now!

Overall 5/5 stars.

This book blew me away! It's an epic mix of Celtic mythology, witch hunts, and found family. Bryn, the main character, rocks as a strong FMC discovering her true self. The story hooked me from the start, especially with the arrival of mysterious strangers and mind-blowing revelations. The battles and Bryn's escape had me on the edge of my seat. And can we talk about Kian? Such an intriguing character! This book is a must-read for mythology fans and anyone who loves a thrilling adventure with a touch of romance.

First all, this is a book that kept me on my toes. I stayed up all night reading this book because I couldn’t wait until I knew what happened in the next chapter. It’s honestly been awhile since a book has me their grips like this.

Note: This book has trigger warnings! Please read them before reading this book.

Overall this book is going on my bookshelf and I won’t stop recommending it too friends!

My ancestors

They have always said anyone who had even a touch of the sixth sense was called "a little fae". Now I have an even better sense of why. This book is wonderful. So full of discription and life. The characters development is steady and on point. I felt like I was watching a movie in my head. CD Britt is a wonderful writer and author. Something I just realized are two completely different things. I recommend this book and can't wait for the next one. Great job.

This story was a lot to take in, but that is how it goes with the first book of a series. It had so many of my favorite things, a touch of magic, paranormal activity, chosen saviors, murder mayhem, corrupted religious leaders... all in a post-apocalyptic, mad max style setting. Be forewarned it leaves on a cliffhanger, but it is so worth it.

Such an incredible found family story. The story buildup, the plot and the characters were so well thought out and each chapter made me love them that little bit more. I really enjoyed Bryn’s story and I’m looking forward to the next book to see what comes next and how the characters continue to develop.

this was a great start to the Clan of Shadows series, it does a great job in creating the world in the description that I was hoping for. The characters really worked well overall in this world and I was glad I was able to start this journey.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The book's abundance of characters made it challenging to follow, while the slow start dampened my initial excitement. The multitude of characters created confusion and hindered emotional investment in any one of them. Despite these flaws, the author's world-building and complex plot showed promise. However, with a more streamlined approach and a quicker build-up, the book could have truly shone.

Couldn't care less about the plot - it was too slow for me but the writing, omg, the writing is spectacular! So unexpected. Wish I was the target audience though, cuz I don't really like books with lots of characters, slow plots, global conflicts and lack of romance in first books (The Haidren Legacy is an exception).

LOVED IT!

I thought this book was great! I won it in a Goodreads giveaway and wasn't sure what to expect, but it had all the makings of a great story. I like magical elements, action, mystery, and a touch of romance, so this was perfect. It was easy to read and really immersed you in Brynn's world. Can't wait to read the next one!

I won this book as a Goodreads Giveaway. A strong story and good writing helped the story move along. There were times where I felt the characters' behaivior was inconsistent with the storyline, but overall it was a fun read and the characters were engaging.

Okay I am a slow reader and it take me a little to get into the books. I was a little confused about what was going on but by chapter 5 I was so into the book. Im looking forward to reading more things that CD Britt write

I fell in love with Britt’s works with her The Reign of Goddesses trilogy and it left me with high expectations and a deep love for her writing and this book did not disappoint. I couldn’t put it down and I love how well rounded her characters are and how unpredictable the plot was.

Great character development. But the story jumps around a bit.
