About the author

Emma was born in Minnesota and she lives in the Midwest, though she grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She attended Illinois State University where she majored in geology, and there she met her husband, Chris. They have three children, a temperamental cat named Poot, and are lucky enough to live on a beautiful lake. On warm days, she does enjoy a glass of wine on the dock now and then, and always loves to sit at her desk, winter or summer, and tap at her keyboard.

Second edit (January 2024): I’ve been rereading my Emma Wildes books and this was one of the first that got me hooked on her. While I’ll admit,
Johnathan says some initial things that I personally would find creepy and their romance is a bit underbaked, there’s something in the spirit of this book that I like. It’s cozy somehow. I like the whole cast of characters. I like to know what they’re thinking. I enjoy just hanging out with them. Characters in this book overlap eventually with the Northfield series and the second book of the Notorious Bachelors series (hence I’m reading them all together). At this point, reading the Notorious Bachelors book 2, then the Northfield start (Lessons from a Scarlet Lady), and then this series seems to be a good order to meet everyone.

Edit (November 2017): So, I keep thinking about this book and wanting to revisit it to check in on old friends. If I'm doing that, this book deserves five stars, even if the sex scene was not great. I loved the characters and the story and want to experience it again. I checked this out from the library but now I want to own it.

After several Emma Wildes duds, I finally found a winner. Aside from one sex scene that had a lot of anatomy and purple prose, this was her more traditional regency style romance with fun, chemistry, and a HEA.

Like most Emma Wildes novels, this story also had a dual romance. The primary couple was Lady Cecily, a diamond of the ton, and Lord Augustine, an Earl from America with mixed heritage who terrifies everyone as much as he fascinates them. The second couple focuses on Lady Cecily's sister Eleanor and a misguided suitor who finally sees the light.

Lord Augustine and Cecily have a lot of chemistry from the get-go and I enjoyed seeing how well they fit together despite the unlikely pairing. Eleanor is also interesting and I liked seeing how she and her hero slowly gain common ground.

This story is very fluffy and has some unnecessary angst at the end. Wildes also typically has a more modern, looser interpretation of the time period. Be prepared for this going in or it will drive you nuts. I usually read one of her novels when I'm in the mood for something light and fun. A Whisper Away was delightful, quirky, lighthearted and fun. It isn't for those serious readers of the HR genre who expect accuracy, but it is perfect for a break from angst, seriousness, or gloom.

I read this while on vacation and enjoyed it enormously.

Note: the sex scenes were kind of lame (too anatomically descriptive), but there were fewer than Wildes' typically romances. I liked this novel of hers the most of any I've read thus far.

Solo decir que me gustó mucho y que es justo lo que necesitaba. Los personajes no son súper profundos ni tampoco los hechos pero era lo que buscaba.

En resumen es una historia bonita y aunque a veces tenía más protagonismo la pareja secundaria en conjunto fue un buen libro.

Pd: si GR me vuelve a borrar esto no lo vuelvo a escribir 😑

When a book causes me to smile countless times throughout and even chuckle at the engaging banter between characters, I know I have stumbled upon a satisfying story! Emma Wildes brings a fresh, delightful debut to One Whisper Away, the first installment of her new Ladies In Waiting series.

Jonathan Borne, the Earl of Augustine, has returned to England (quite to his dismay) to settle several family matters as the result of his father’s death. An unconventional man of mixed heritage and a resident of America, Jonathan has no use for the ultra formal “code of conduct” that the British possess. Arriving in London at his late father’s estate with his illegitimate five year old daughter in hand, Jonathan hopes to form a somewhat cordial relationship with his half-sisters in order to help secure husbands and stability for all three before he returns to America. Lady Cecily Francis has her own dilemma to contend with. An accidental encounter of champagne spilled across her bosom has Jonathan unconventionally wiping it off. When he whispers in her ear he would have preferred to lick it off, her reputation is now in question give such “ghastly” public behavior. Her current suitor, Lord Daury, is the very man her beloved sister, Eleanor, has been infatuated with for over a season. Cecily decides in order to rid herself of Lord Daury’s advances, she proposes an engagement to Jonathan with the intent to break it before he returns to America. What neither expects is their mutual attraction and enjoyment in each other’s company.

The main quality I enjoy of Ms. Wilde’s writing style is she brings a sincere realness to all of her characters which is, at times, difficult to accomplish in a historical setting. While not over flamboyant, they are clever, tenacious and depict a true spirit that draws the reader into the story. I adored Cecily’s honesty. When she looked at Jonathan, she never once recognized him as a “savage” or “half breed” as society viewed his mixed blood status. She saw a strong, untamed, exotic, and virile man. Jonathan, while intrigued by Cecily’s beauty, was more impressed with her open mind and giving spirit. Whenever Cecily and Jonathan were together, their flirty and uninhibited chemistry poured off the pages. A particular favorite moment was when they scandalously went skinny dipping at the river in midday. As they circled each other stripping pieces of clothing off, their playful and sensual exchange had a resemblance to the brazen, iconic couple of Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler whom both never let scandal faze them. And while it was considered a highly scandalous moment between a couple of that era, their reckless, teasing demeanor had me grinning and not wanting the moment to end. The secondary characters played strong and engaging roles to the storyline as well and provided a nice set up to future novels. One Whisper away delivered a vast array of well-developed characters and a strong start to what I believe will be Ms. Wilde’s best series yet.

I really love when a title of a book just captures what the book is about and this one succeeded wonderfully. It all starts when at a ball when some champagne is splashed on Lady Cecily and the dashing, mysterious, half American, part Iroquois Earl of Augustine dries up the champagne....off her bosom much to the shock of the ton, and Cecily. But to make matters worse, he leans down and whispers something even more shocking in her ear that just leaves the ton all abuzz to know what was said by the 'Earl Savage'. And as Cecily refuses to repeat what was said, the curiosity grows and grows.

As much as Cecily is intrigued and attracted to Jonathon she knows he is not a suitable match for her, after all he has admitted to his illegitimate daughter and brought her to London instead of leaving her in America and he also has no real plans to stay in London after his half sisters are married off. But when her father is close to accepting the offer of marriage from a man Cecily's sister, Eleanor, is in love with she knows she has to take a drastic course of action to force Eleanor to stand up for what she wants. Cecily proposes a plan to Jonathon--they will pretend an engagement so that Cecily does not need to accept Lord Drury offer and in return Cecily will use her family and influence to help Jonathons sisters find suitable matches. As Jonathons eldest sister had a shameful encounter in her past, he is most intrigued by this and decides to consider it. But what he proposes back to Cecily has her doing a double take.

I really enjoyed this story. The instant attraction between Cecily and Jonathon, as he prefers to be called, was hot and sexy. I loved Jonathons relaxed view of the English views and his utter devotion to his daughter. It was enjoyable to watch the budding relationship between him and his three sisters and I very happy to see that the eldest has her own story next in Twice Fallen: Ladies in Waiting (and once again, the title seems like a perfect fit already!). I loved how Cecily loved her sister so much that she did whatever she could to make her happy. I also enjoyed how Cecily never saw Jonathon as 'Earl Savage', he was always just a man to her. Now the ending had a bit thrown in that I wasn't expecting and it seemed a bit out of place but it still worked out in the end. There is no huge misunderstanding which I was happy about...just a wonderful story of a man with different views falling for a woman brought up with totally different views melding together perfectly. Ah, and the final ending...ends with a whisper :) I look forward to more from Emma Wildes! 4 stars

DNF: I read over 60% of the bk before I couldn't take it anymore.

I may not be the right reader for these type of stories. I was reminded that I DNFed the LAST "savage earl" historical I read also (that would be I Kissed an Earl by an author that I enjoy a lot more than Wildes usually).

Anyway, everything was by-the-numbers. Savage earl meets beautiful duke's daughter at a ball. He decides that he wants to marry her and admits that he is in lurve by the halfway point. It was pretty straightforward and conflict-free by the point where I left off. To fill in some of the requisite 300 pages for a historical, Wildes supplies a secondary romance as usual. The secondary romance was snoozy too.

Looks like this is the first bk of a trilogy. There is a preview at the end which tells ya who is the heroine of the next story.

I am probably not gonna read the other books.

adorei!!!!

estranhamente quando gosto de uma historia acabo sempre por ter mais dificuldade em formar uma opiniao! apesar de tudo nao quiz deixar em branco este espaço, porque de facto a historia merece mais de que um "adorei".

como nao podia deixar de ser Emma Wildes, mais uma vez que encantou com a sua escrita e o seu poder de nos prender a atenção.

Cenas bem estruturadas, detalhes da personalidade dos personagens fazem com que a historia se desenvolva com suavidade e viramos pagina apos pagina quase sem dar por isso.

Conde de Augustine e Lady Cecily Francis protagonizam um romance que em nada é o comum da epoca.... um romance cheio de paixão e de colocar certos preconceitos á margem e fazer valer os seus mais puros sentimentos.

Estas heroinas apesar da sua pouca idade (?) nada fazem para se acomodar aos valores sociais da epoca, não deixam de mostrar a sua opinião e a sua inteligência!

Em paralelo á estoria principal vão-se a vizinhando as proximas estorias.... o que cria já uma grande expectativa!

Um romance que gostei bastante de ler e que se leu num ápice!
Uma história com o mistério habitual, que por incrível que pareça apenas se tornou vísivel para o protagonista no final e que para o leitor já se tornava previsivel desde o primeiro incidente!
Gostei também do romance paralelo - o pior cego é o que não quer ver!!!
Parece-me advinhar os protagonistas dos livros seguintes - a escolha é rica e vasta!

E não retiro uma vírgula ao que escrevi há 7 anos atrás.
E o "mistério" do livro seguinte não teria sido tão grande se tivesse lido este em primeiro lugar.
Sem dúvida, gostei bastante de reler este romance.

★★★★✩ While not as clever as some of Ms. Wildes’ previous stories, this one is a pleasant read. I kept waiting for the hero, Jonathan Bourne, Earl of Augustine, better known as ‘Earl Savage’ due to his being half Iroquois (Native American Indian), to do something ‘wild and crazy’. However, the book, and the Earl, remained on an even keel throughout, only reinforcing that Regency London was quite restrictive in what they considered outré, let alone ‘heathen’. A bit of spilled champagne, a dab at a débutante’s décolletage, a whispered word or two, and a scandal ensues.

I enjoyed the love story between Jonathan and Lady Cecile Francis, but it wasn’t much of a “bumpy road” for the two of them. Most of it was about the characters worrying what might happen, and nothing does until the end. Still, it was exactly what I was in the mood for. Nice sense of time and place, nice supporting characters, and no disappointments with regards to my personal Romancelandia Rules, make EW remain an auto-buy-author for me.

Adorei!
Sempre gostei muito de romances históricos e de época, mas andava reticente em ler livros com a componente erótica. No entanto quando vi este livro em promoção e li a sua sinópse fiquei realmente interessada, e começei a lê-lo no exacto mesmo dia.

Acho que fiz uma óptima aposta em começar este género literário com Emma Wildes! Já tenho imensos dela em wishlist, bem como de outras autoras semelhantes.

Quanto à história em si é muito bonita. Adorei as personagens, especialmente as femeninas, pois são todas donas de uma grande personalidade e determinação para a época em questão.
O Conde Selvagem é uma perdição de homem, e a sua história de amor é lindíssima.

Este é o primeiro livro de mais uma trilogia da autora. Sendo já uma fã de Emma Wildes, iniciei esta leitura com certas expetativas e não me desiludi. One Whisper Away é um livro que nos entretém, onde o enredo, embora simples e previsível, nos consegue manter agarradas à história do princípio ao fim.

A minha experiencia com os livros da autora preparou-me para uma fórmula mais ou menos assim: dois casais, um drama/crime para resolver, dois finais felizes. Mas em One Whisper Away as coisas mudaram um bocadinho. Para começar, temos mais personagens do que é costume, e embora acabemos com a referida fórmula, a maneira de lá chegar é diferente, e o protagonismo é dividido também por personagens das quais não esperaríamos nada.

Cecily, filha do Duque de Eddington, é a debutante mais cobiçada do momento. É uma rapariga que todos julgam maleável e o tipo de esposa perfeita para um verdadeiro conservador inglês. Cecily é doce, romântica, e olha para as pessoas pelo que elas são e não de acordo com os rótulos que a sociedade londrina lhes impõe. Por isso mesmo, e embora o esconda bem, não é de todo maleável como julgam, sendo, pelo contrário, uma jovem inteligente e de coração gigante, para quem as necessidades e felicidade de outros vem primeiro.

Ella, a irmã mais velha de Cecily, já na sua segunda season em busca de um marido. Apesar de ser tão bonita como a irmã, e tão inteligente também, ganhou na sua primeira season a reputação de ser demasiado opinativa, o que afugenta os solteiros elegíveis. Ella existe nesta história como um lembrete para quem a lê. Hoje, Ella seria a mulher perfeita: inteligente, sempre atualizada sobre o mundo, bonita, elegante, graciosa. Mas nesta época, as mulheres querem-se como bonecas: bonitas, elegantes, boas de levar pelo braço e de mostrar na sociedade. Mas espera-se também que não incomodem os maridos, que produzam um herdeiro e depois sejam discretas mas façam o que quiserem, que se mantenham contentes com vestidos e bailes e não se preocupem com as coisas realmente importantes, que são assuntos de homens.

Lily, irmã de Jonathan, apresenta-se como outra jovem mulher desgraçada pela má-língua e preconceito da sociedade. Refugia-se no campo e em casa, tendo-se afastado completamente do circuito social depois de ter sido parte do escândalo do ano quando se apresentou à sociedade pela primeira vez. Lillian sonha em ter a sua família, em apaixonar-se por um homem que goste de si como é, que não a veja apenas pelo dinheiro que levará ou pela família a que pertence. Ou, pelo menos, isto era o que queria antes. Agora, depois do escândalo, quase desistiu de ser feliz.

Jonathan, Lord Augustine, é o nome que corre na boca de toda a sociedade londrina. Mas, na verdade, chamam-lhe Earl Savage, devido à sua ascendência. Filho de um Lord inglês e de mãe meio francesa meio índia, acabou por nunca se encaixar em nenhuma das sociedades. No meio londrino, é um Lord como os outros, tem o seu direito ao título, que herdou do pai, mas como a sua mãe não fazia parte da sociedade londrina, não é recebido de braços abertos. Nos Eua, onde nasceu e cresceu, faria parte da grande sociedade dos índios, mas também aí não passa de um mestiço, porque o seu pai não fazia parte dessa sociedade. Cresceu com o amor da tia, que o criou, e o amor do pai, nas ocasiões em que viajava para estar com o filho. Mas embora se sinta em casa em Boston, não faz realmente parte de nenhum dos mundos aos quais pertence. Foi um homem que fez o seu próprio caminho, e cuja honra o forçou a viajar para Inglaterra após a morte do pai, para assumir o seu lugar e garantir o futuro das suas meias-irmãs. Quer vê-las casadas e regressar a Boston, mas o destino não tem os mesmos planos…

James, primo de Jonathan, é como que a sua consciência. Parte da sociedade londrina desde que nasceu, embora sem título a receber, é o guia de Jonathan nessas águas turvas. E Elijah, Lord Drury, é o perfeito conservador inglês, que procura uma esposa exatamente como lhe disseram para procurar, fugindo sem querer de quem realmente o pode fazer feliz.

One Whisper Away é talvez o livro mais romântico que li da autora. Sim, são todos românticos, mas aqui o romance ganhou mais destaque, governou o futuro dos personagens. Aqui, o romance não foi em si um drama, tudo decorreu de forma perfeita. Claro que não podia faltar um pequeno drama, mas o seu lugar foi menos que secundário. Aliás, e embora tenha feito sentido na história, parece ter existido apenas para se seguir a fórmula, para se criar aqui alguma diversão. Não foi relevante, se não tivesse existido a história não perderia nenhum do seu encanto ou beleza, porque na verdade quem lê Emma Wildes quer amor e sedução, não procura um policial.

Aqui a autora deu-nos diálogos mais interessantes, picardias entre os protagonistas que foram deliciosas, conversas entre meios-irmãos que os aproximam, e personagens que se destacam pela positiva na sociedade em questão. Não podemos também esquecer a Addie, que é a personagem mais fofinha de todas; e a especial ex-Duquesa de Eddington, avó de Cecily e Ella: um formidável dragão :)

One Whisper Away é um livro que nos faz sorrir, suspirar, soltar uma ou outra gargalhada, e sentir o coração apertadinho, mas de felicidade, porque durante algumas horas, estes personagens são nossos amigos, e nós somos parte daquela época. E agora siga para o próximo, porque é a história da Lily, e eu não podia estar mais curiosa! :)

Me gustó mucho por la forma en que comienza, con una prota que tiene sus prioridades y no es una de esas que anda sonrojándose en todo momento. Voy a ignorar las partes de su hermana porque son una pérdida de mi tiempo por lo dura que fue para salir de esa actitud lastimera. Su romance más bien ñeh, nada comparada con la de su hermana que fue un torbellino.

I stopped in disgust after the myriad comments about Augustine’s mixed heritage (his mother was Native American). This book was written in 2011, but feels like the poor-taste “noble savage”books of the 80’s. Yuck.

I was really looking forward to One Whisper Away as Ms Wildes has become one of my favorite and auto-buy historical romance authors, but at the same time, when I found out that the hero was Native American, I was a little bit wary. I'm not super fond of Native American characters, especially not in historical, because it's always the same issues that come up - acceptance - and with Augustine being nicknamed Earl Savage, it didn't look very promising. In the end though, the hero being Native had almost no repercussion on the storyline so it was fine with me :)

Overall, I enjoyed One Whisper Away, but it wasn't Ms Wildes best. I think the the writing was solid as usual, but there was too much happening in the book and the characters weren't utilized to their fullest potential. Ms Wildes had two really interesting characters in Lady Cecily and Augustine - an aside: one thing that I enjoy so much of Ms Wildes' books is that although her heroines are young, they have a level of maturity that is quite refreshing - but instead of focusing on them and their romance, she gave too much of the spotlights to the secondary storylines. I really liked Cecily and Augustine and was expecting more conflicts in their romance... The beginning was quite promising with Cecily's father encouraging her to accept Lord Drury's proposal, Augustine barely being accepted in society. I expected Augustine to have to do a lot more to ingratiate himself to the ton... and perhaps it's a good thing he didn't have to. However, once Cecily came up with the fake engagement plan, almost immediately, Augustine decided that he wanted the real thing and let's forget his plans to go back to America and voila, Cecily and Augustine were in love with each other. I thought everything happened a bit too quickly when it came to our H/H and the story moved on. I was looking forward to more scenes between Augustine's daughter and Cecily, but that also was brushed aside quickly. In that aspect, I thought One Whisper Away was a bit of a disappointment.

I did however really enjoy the secondary storylines. I really loved how smart and considerate Cecily was. As I said, she might be young, but she has a level of maturity that a lot of heroines in other historical romance lack. I liked that she knew her sister Eleanor was in love with Lord Drury, I liked that she realized that she and Lord Drury might match, but it wasn't love and therefore had no intention of accepting. I like that she didn't give away her sister's secrets and instead, planned to bring them together somehow. So yes, that part, I really liked. I also enjoyed Augustine's sister, Lillian, storyline. I think that was a nice setting up for the next book... I liked the conflicting emotions Lillian had about her brother and would have liked Ms Wildes to develop this further. So yes, I really enjoyed these secondary storylines, but at the same time, I thought Ms Wildes spent too much time on them. For example, the revelation about Lillian's scandal should have been kept for her book instead. And seriously, the shooting at the end? Totally superfluous. Yes, it was foreshadowed - and not very well ^_^; But seriously, the book could have done without it and not suffer at all.

Of course, there were also some good moments in this book such as Augustine's meeting with Cecily's father LOL. And I really enjoyed the interactions between all the characters - Augustine with his cousin, the siblings relationship between all three Eddington's offsprings, etc. However, after I finished reading One Whisper Away, I simply wasn't wowed... It was a nice book, an enjoyable one, but it missed the mark a little... and I think it was because the romance between Augustine and Cecily was not deep enough.

Not a wowzer, but still quite enjoyable with solid writing :) Now, I'm really looking forward to Twice Fallen (January 2012), not only for Lillian, but also for the hero, Damien Northfield which we met in Lessons from a Scarlet Lady.

I won this book in a contest--Thank you, Ms. Wildes and Dear Author!--and am really enjoying it. I've read several of Wildes' erotic historical romances and found them to be among the best in the genre. She consistently writes excellent dialogue and believable characters. And--this is my favorite part--there are often secondary romances built into the story, which is like getting two for the price of one. That's the case in One Whisper Away in which our heroine, Cecily, tries to escape an arranged marriage with the man her sister secretly adores.

I've read a lot of books that feature the arranged marriage trope, but rarely have I ever thought it was a reasonable thing for the hero and heroine to do. But in this case, I totally bought it. I have a sister myself, and I would do just about anything for her. To me, the chances that Cecily takes to get out of her engagement seemed believable, especially given the absolutely intractable characters of her father and prospective fiancee.

Anyway, kudos for taking a tired plot and reinvigorating it. Wildes also takes on the savage-American-who-becomes-a-nobleman trope. I was initially wary, since so often authors make their American heroes so extreme as to be unbelievable. But in this case, Jonathan Bourne, while clearly not English, is also not a caricature of an American barbarian. As he keeps telling people, he's from Boston.

While I enjoyed the primary romance, I actually found the secondary one, between the heroine's sister and the sister's fiance, to be more compelling. This is likely due to the fact that the sister, Eleanor, is a more interesting character than the nearly perfect Cecily. Wildes also weaves in the plight of the hero's sister, Lillian, who ruined herself by running off with a man that she didn't marry. The next book in the series, Twice Fallen, tells Lillian's story, and I can't wait to read it. As always, Wildes is a good bet for Regency-set historicals.

O novo ano começou e com eles vieram novidades fantásticas. Emma Wildes chegou ao nosso mercado editorial à algum tempo e parece que veio para nos deliciar com as suas historias maravilhosas.
Este livro, na minha opinião, apesar de ser uma leitura leve é também uma leitura fantástica que nos faz sonhar e desejar viver um amor assim. Num tempo de príncipes e princesas e ambiente luxuoso, esta história é construída de forma perfeita e nos mostra o tipo de amor existente entre irmãos. Gostei muito das personagens principais, acabando por me ligar também com as secundárias, pois é graças à história delas que toda a trama se torna ainda melhor e vai abrindo o apetite para os próximos livros desta série. O Conde Selvagem, como era chamado, acabou por ser uma personagem muito marcante neste livro, não só para ser o protagonista mas também pela importância que teve na vida de todos os intervenientes. Achei engraçado a forma como foi retratado o snobismo e racismo existente no livro para com ele, ao mesmo tempo que também era desejado por toda a sociedade.
O próximo livro vai trazer-nos uma personagem conhecida para quem leu o livro “Lições de Sedução”, pois iremos rever Damien Northfield, personagem que para mim ficou marcada e que há muito desejava conhecer com mais profundidade. Vai ser também um livro que irei esperar ansiosamente.
Com Emma Wildes sabemos a qualidade que nos espera e por isso nunca saímos enganadas, não há um único livro seu que me deixe desgostosa. Qualidade e extremo cuidado, são características que podemos encontrar sempre nos seus livros.

Bem, eu sou suspeita, porque sou fã de romance, mas na minha opinião, este é um dos mais intensos que li até hoje. «Sussurros ousados» foi a minha estreia com a autora Emma Wildes. E que estreia! A autora tem uma escrita fluída e floreada, bonita, e ao mesmo tempo consegue prender-nos à leitura. Esta é uma história bem trabalhada, com personagens fortes e devidamente caracterizados, cada qual com uma personalidade bastante vincada, o que nos faz gostar tanto dos principais, como dos secundários. Por outro lado, por ser um romance histórico, torna cada paisagem e cada personagem mais requintados. Adorei o sedutor Conde Selvagem, pela sua personalidade forte e ao mesmo tempo apaixonada, e claro, pelo seu físico bem trabalhado e tão diferente dos restantes homens da história. A personagem Cecily também me encantou, pela sua doçura e inocência, mas simultaneamente pela sua garra ao enfrentar o próprio pai e ao desistir de um casamento por conveniência para ajudar a irmã, Eleanor. Eleanor foi outra das personagens de que mais gostei, pelo seu carácter único e desbocado. E gostei que tivesse um final feliz. A relação entre ambas as irmãs foi realmente bonita e de louvar. A personagem Lily foi também uma surpresa agradável. Espero que venha a encontrar o amor :)
Este é um daqueles romances queridos com um final feliz, que nos faz adormecer com um sorriso no rosto e sonhar com o príncipe dos nossos sonhos. As cenas românticas são fantásticas. A autora tem de facto mão para descrever cada cena de amor com a maior intensidade possível, o que nos leva a viajar para dentro da história e a esquecer o Mundo exterior. Adorei e recomendo! :)

Man, I was so angry after finishing this book, or should I say, skimming the last 75 pages. There was no characterization. I felt nothing for the hero and heroine; they could have perished in a mine explosion, and I would have been thrilled because at least that would have made the book more interesting!

Wilde did excellent job creating the secondary characters. They had exceedingly more dimension than the main couple. Why couldn’t the main story be about her sister and Drury and have Cecily and Jon’s story be the secondary one.

And the thrown in dilemma at the end was so DUMB.

Blurg. No more Emma Wilde. Period.

I wanted to like this more than I did. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline for the most part except a few bits. It didn't seem like there was a whole lot of interaction between Cecily and his daughter. I just felt the relationship could have been developed more. And the villain was a bit lame. He was just causing a bit of havoc in the background. It should have either been a larger role or perhaps not included at all.

Although I liked it overall, this book comes off as a shade...racist to me. The hero is a quarter Native American, and he is referred to as "Earl Savage." While I realize that this is a historical romance, I still felt uncomfortable reading some parts, and I felt like Emma Wildes would have done well to do more research on the culture and tone down the racist terms and remarks.

Lady Cicely is indended to get married with lord Drury, her brother’s best friend but Ci has to reject the proposal although she admitted that lord drury is handsome, rich and proper gentlemen because beside she do not has a feeling (romantic feeling) toward lord drury, she suspect her sister - Eleanor likes lord drury even Eleanor never tells her but Ci knew it from the way she looked at lord drury and also her behavior as well as being near him.

Earl Jonathan Augustine Savage was a half America/England, came to England to fulfill his duty to settle his property, marry his 3 sister off so that he can return to America.

But one incident at a party and causing Lady Cecily’s front gown being wet because splash of wine and Earl Jonathan so kind to give his handkerchief and one whisper from Earl Jonathan (which actually vulgar : “your have turned a very delicious shade of pink my lady, but console yourself with the knowledge I would much rather have licked it off , so my handkerchief was actually a polite choice) at her ear, arouse a scandal among the nobility.

This incident was made Lady Cecily proposed engagement with Earl Jomathan.so they can pretend to be bound within the engagement to avoid her from lord drury’s proposal and make her sister sad / hurt to see the person she loved to be her brother in law.

And what lady cecily don’t know that jonathan decided to formalize their fake engagement to be real wedding despite many obstacles : her father’s approval, even they both feel interests but that is not a foundation to navigate the wedding, jonathan’s decition to return to America after married meantime Ci deciced to stay in Inggris.

After they’d resolved all the obstacles and decided to get married, there is someone threatening jonathan’s life? Who is this person? And for what purpose?

There is 2 suspects here : Lord drury and Cecily’s brother. Is it possible?

Lady Cecily dimaksudkan untuk menikah dgn lord drury, teman baik abangnya namun terpaksa di tolak oleh Ci walo pun dia mengakui kalau lord druby tampan, kaya dan proper gentlemen dikarenakan selain dia tdk pny perasaan apapun thdp lord drury, Ci menduga bahwa kakaknya Elanor menyukai lord Drury walaupun Eleanor tdk pernah bercerita kepadanya tapi Ci tahu dari cara Elanor melihat lord druby dan perilakunya saat berada di dekatnya.

Earl Jonathan Augustine Savage - keturuan Inggris-Amerika, yg dtg ke Inggris utk memenuhi kewajiban mengurus property keluarga, menikahkan ke 3 adik perempuannya agar bisa segera kembali ke Amerika.

Namun satu kejadian disebuah pesta yang menyebabkan gaun bagian dpn lady ci basah terkena siraman wine shg Earl Jonathan ngasih sapu tangannya dan satu bisikan dr lord (yg sbnrnya vulgar) ditelinga lady ci menimbulkan scandal dikalangan bangsawan.

Kejadian ini juga yang membuat lady ci mengajukan perjanjian dgn jonathan agar mereka bisa berpura-pura terikat dlm pertunangan utk menghindari dirinya dr proposal lord drury agar kakaknya tdk sedih / sakit hati melihat org yg dicintainya malah menjadi adik iparnya.

Dan yg tdk diketahui oleh lady ci adalah jonathan memutuskan utk meresmikan pertunangan palsu mrk dan melangsungkan pernikahan walau tentu saja banyak kendala. Persetujuan dr ayah ci yg awalnya sdh menyetujui lamaran lord drury yg dianggap lbh pantas utk ci baik dr keturunan dll trus walau dr awal pertemuan mrk, mrk merasakan ketertarikan masing-masing namun bkn berarti bs menjadi pondasi utk mengarungi pernikahan mrk dan juga jonathan yg memutuskan utk kembali ke amerika dan menetap disana sementara ci tentu saja memilih utk tetap tinggal di inggris.

Ketika semua kendala teratasi dan mrk memutuskan menikah (after 2 times bed scenes yg seru dan adegannya juga lumayan lucu dimana jonathan yg tdk sabar menunggu jwban Ceciy atas pinangannya, menyeludup masuk ke kediaman Ci bahkan sampai memanjat dinding kediaman dan hrs mengambil resiko masuk kamar yg slh dan untungnya ketemu krn ci sndr pny bau parfum yg lgsg bs di kenali jonathan dan adegan mrk malah diketahui oleh Eleanor yg galau tdk bs tdr memikirkan lord druryd dan wkt mau mengetuk pintu kamar Ci, malah mendengar suara erangan jonathan dan gumaman Ci dan ketika mendengar abangnya menaiki tangga menuju kamarnya utk tidur lgsg buru-buru Eleanor mengajak turun abangnya ke dapur utk makan. Walaupun mrk sdh mau menikah tp tetap tdk blh dunk curi start 
Adegan kedua, kejadiannya di sungai (berkhayal sndr d, klo mnrt ku si kok bs y, xixi).

Ada seseorang yang mengancam hidup jonathan dan sapa kah org tsb? Dan utk tujuan apa?

Ada 2 orang tersangka disini : lord druby dan abang ci, mgknkah?


So far, I enjoy reading this book and I thought the title is really suit with the story. 

Aku juga bakal pilih Earl Savage lah.. selain dia keturuan Inggris-Amerika dan besar di Amerika, so pasti liar.. auwww , xixi
Trus juga tampan, tinggi, kulitnya juga kecoklatan (kesannya mysterious gt), seorang earl lg, kaya dan juga pny hati yang lembut (terlihat dr cara dia yang saying bgt sama anak ce-nya, yups, si Earl Savage ini pny anak ce-nya, yg lovely, bibi-bibinya jg saying sama dia) dan lagi2 rake itu susah di tolak hahahahaha
Blm lagi para wanita yg sudah menikah (tp yg sk selingkuh) bahkan bertaruh 5000 pounds (kalau g slh) utk sapa yg berhasil tidur dgn Jonathan.

Dan yang aku suka jg, si Jonathan ni romantis, wkt dtg mengunjungi Cecily, bawa bunga yang dia petik sendiri dari kebunnya dan dibantu pelayannya di rangkai di vas dan ngasih ke Cecily, ngak spt lord drudy yg malah beli bunga rangkai 

A light, not-much-to-it read. The hero's daughter should have played a much larger role in the book. I think she was in a couple of paragraphs and had about three lines. Her only purpose seemed to be making our hero more scandalous since she was illegitimate and he kept her with him.
The villain was barely mentioned and didn't add much to the story. The intrigue he should have brought to the story was just not there.
I liked that there were two romances going on, one major, one minor.
The Epilogue was very mundane and didn't add anything to the story.

The first portion was quite enjoyable as the characters got to know each other. But the last third was disappointing. They were already in love and happy, so the conflicts keeping them apart at that point felt contrived. Also, a secondary love story was occurring - not a problem on its own, but it took away "screen time" from conflicts between the main couple.

Para quem segue com relativa atenção este meu adorado espaço, não há segredo algum no facto de eu vos dizer que gosto muito de Emma Wildes. A partir do momento em que li pela primeira vez esta autora, rendi-me ao seu jeito suave contar histórias de época, com um travo de acção e mistério, com um travo de humor, mas, principalmente, com um cuidado particular ao falar de amor e elaborar deliciosas descrições da classe alta britânica.

Neste título em concreto, que na minha opinião é mais romântico que o habitual, a autora leva-nos a um período de singular ostentação e regras entre os círculos mais elitistas da sociedade londrina, ao período de Regência, e, pela visão oferecida, rapidamente me apercebi que mais uma vez Emma esmerou-se na criação do cenário espacial onde enquadrou, na perfeição, as mais educadas e curiosas damas e os mais prodigiosos e singulares cavalheiros.
Foi, portanto, num primoroso ambiente de opulência que conheci a mais preciosa flor da temporada, a mais desejada donzela do ton, Lady Cecily - quase comprometida e certamente desapaixonada por Lorde Drury. Como um exemplo de beleza e conduta entre os círculos mais selectivos, esta jovem acaba por não passar despercebida ao Conde Selvagem, Jonathan, um recém-chegado rico, pouco convencional e, desta feita, alvo de todas as críticas e fofocas sociais. Num primeiro encontro entre Jonathan e Cecily, rodeados de olhares indiscretos, um sussurro impensado, ousado e inconveniente não é ignorado e ocorre uma primeira faísca entre este par antónimo. Este pode não ser nada ou pode ser o princípio de algo sem retorno, prevalecendo apenas a certeza de que o destino se encarregará de mostrar que nada é tão linear e previsível como ambos julgavam ser.

Embora seja usual encontrar um elevado número de intervenientes nas narrativas de Emma, devo confessar que a diversidade de personagens, atendendo à dimensão de Sussurros Ousados, 316 páginas, me surpreendeu bastante e de forma positiva.
Não vou divagar, nem citar tantos quantos os que são relevantes neste enredo, mas a verdade é que para lá do casal principal, Cecily e Jonathan - ele um homem vivido, com sentido de honra, e ela uma mulher pura e de quem se espera muito -, ambos bastante mais atrevidos que o esperado e representando o cliché da metamorfose emocional para encontrar o equilíbrio necessário para a felicidade, muitos foram os nomes que me agradaram. São disso exemplo, Lily uma das três irmãs do protagonista, que será relevante no futuro e tem um passado muito interessante, James, o contido e ponderado primo de Jonathan que lhe serve de consciência e Elle, irmã de Cecily, de língua viperina e protagonista de cenas muito divertidas. Todos eles oferecem a este enredo muita acção e diferentes perspectivas da história - com a diversificação de narradores -, assim como diferentes emoções e muitas questões pertinentes para o desenvolvimento, aliás, posso inclusive adiantar, desde já, que posteriormente algum destes intervenientes poderá vir a ser protagonista na continuação desta trilogia, no original Ladies in Waiting.

Entre as várias questões abordadas, neste livro acho relevante referir os diversos perfis explorados e, no caso feminino, a atenção dada às diferentes posturas da mulher face à forma como são encaradas pela sociedade devido à sua condição. Todas as que conhecemos com maior atenção são solteiras por diferentes motivos, como o abandono ou o simples facto de terem atractivos pouco convenientes, o que lhes molda o carácter e que permite, pertinentemente, haver uma noção dos conceitos e valores do período observado.

No entanto, não posso deixar de referir que esta é uma narrativa muito simples e leve que visa, acima de tudo, o entretenimento que aqui se encontra acima da média. Penso que o mistério, habitual nesta autora, esteve quase sempre em segundo plano havendo, isso sim, maior dedicação aos diálogos e à acção entre personagens, particularmente, entre as diferentes relações que se foram formando - o que me proporcionou boas gargalhadas e aumentou a minha empatia para com as figuras ficcionais.

No geral, este é um livro para os adeptos de romance época e sensual, com algumas cenas volúpias, que procurem descontrair através de uma leitura descomplicada e, ao mesmo tempo, descobrir um pouco sobre os enleios amorosos londrinos no princípio do século xix.
