Twelve Months To Your Ideal Private Practice: A Workbook (Norton Professional Books

Rate this book
Many therapists suffer from a psychic split about their work in private practice: they loved being therapists, but hate being in business. This book, based in part on Lynn Grodzki's book Building Your Ideal Private Practice , is a year-long, progressive practice-building program offering therapists an abundance of information, ideas, and strategies for working successfully in private practice. Whereas Building Your Ideal Private Practice was a comprehensive guide to practice building, this workbook is a month-by-month coaching program, giving readers the experience of being coached for a year.

This book will help you answer some key questions about your private practice: How can I work as hard as I need make enough money and maintain a quality personal life? What does it take to build a profitable business without expending so much personal effort? How can I be as successful as I want to be, and feel rested and healthy? Is it possible to be a therapist in private practice and have an easier life? How can I use a simple business model to build and expand my private practice? You can begin to use this book in any month, or review and re-use the book year after year as your annual coaching program. In keeping with the Private Practice Success T business model, the first four months of the workbook focus on aspects of preparation, the second four months highlight building blocks, and the final four months craft the finishing touches. Each month offers a progressive series of assessments, written exercises, and skill sets, helping readers to identify action steps to take and follow that month with fieldwork suggestions.

I read this book with a group of colleagues, a chapter per month, doing (most of) the exercises and supporting each other in biweekly video meetings. It is a bit dated, mentioning Rolodexes and blissfully unaware of social media, but much of the content is surprisingly still relevant and useful. Dense, in fact, with homework and support. It can be repetitive, especially with the monthly check-in exercise that made me feel stuck after months of no progress in some areas, but Grodzki is frequent with her warm encouragement and practical solutions. Despite its age, I would highly recommend this book to a colleague willing to meaningfully engage in the work of turning their private practice into a successful business. I especially recommend doing this work with the support of a peer group, as I did.

It was a great self-paced book when I started my own coaching business. It mainly advises analog and in person ways to build your practice. I found it helpful as I operate well with analog tools, and I was able to blend it into my business. Could definitely use an update with digital marketing and insights from the last 10 years. Still, it was surprisingly powerful for accountability as I went through the chapters month by month. The mindset it teaches is empowering and liberating, what I would call ethical marketing these days mixed with healthy spirituality. It is best to do it with a group of people and share your progress and learnings. ✨️

A great book for coaches, therapists, body-workers, etc. to use for laying the groundwork for a strong private practice. Highly recommended.

Excellent material to use in small business start-up/biz-renewal support group.
