The Way of Peace: A Collection of Prayers and Meditations from around the World for Those Who Love Peace

Rate this book
In Hebrew thought, peace (shalom) describes not just an absence of war, but a kind of "well-being". It is something that exists among people, not something that is absent. It is present in the New Testament as persons are called to become the peacemakers Jesus blesses in the Sermon on the Mount. It is also present on an individual level in the writings of the earliest Christians, as they are assured of God's strength as they proclaimed the gospel, the message of good news, often in the face of danger and persecution. This book regards the spiritual and the social -- the individual's sense of peace and the community's well-being -- as one. The selections are appropriate for private prayer and meditation as well as for peace groups, pilgrimage organizations, retreat centers, and churches that have groups that meet to pray for peace.
