It is a time of trials for the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth. Besieged by enemies on all sides, their once mighty forces are struggling to survive - as is their leader...

Anson Marik is at his wit's end. His Lyran enemies - aided by the warriors of Clan Wolf - are pressing on the borders of the Commonwealth. His chief tactician has resigned in the midst of the chaos. And his abilities as a leader are failing him. He finds himself unable to summon the legendary rage that brings focus to his mind, and the loss couldn't have happened at a worse time.

For his enemies are already on the move, taking the Commonwealth planet by planet, forcing Marik to pull his forces back in a bravely fought running retreat. And if Marik cannot gather his strength to stop the invasion, his people will be doomed.

This is the twenty ninth book in the Mech Warrior Dark Age series. This series is a continuation of the Battletech series. The books in this series, like the books in the original Battletech series, are by various authors. This one is by Jason M. Hardy. The Republic of the Sphere has known a long period of peace and prosperity. Then the interstellar communications network a.k.a. the HPG net is destroyed by terrorists and many planets in the Republic find themselves cut off from the rest of the galaxy with communications taking weeks or even months. Unrest leads to several factions on several planets trying to overthrow the local governments and seize power for themselves.
This book continues the story line of the previous book, Fire At Will. The Lyran Commonwealth continues to attack the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth. They are slowly taking it over planet by planet with the help of Clan Wolf. It also seems that the leader of the Marik-Stewart Commonwealth, Anson Marik, is losing touch with reality. His closest advisors will try to maintain control and see if Anson snaps back to himself. With the help of the Silver Hawk Irregulars they will make a desperate stand against the Lyran Commonwealth. This book is another great read in this series.

Good story

Good story on the fall of the Marik commonwealth and the death of Anson Marik and his legacy of the re-creation of the Silver Hawk irregulars, and showing the dangerous mix of factions of the Lyran forces with Duke Vedet Brewster ( Brewer in other books) beginning his raise in the Lyran commonwealth and Clan Wolf as the joker in the pack.

A continuation of the Lyran Commonwealth's campaign, along with the Wolf clan. More deception, some betrayal and not enough outright battle scenes.
Overall another enjoyable tale

Another Battletech with way to much chatter

I'll say it again like I do in every review. The new authors are way too wordy and lack action.

Battltech is about conquests, battles and some great storyline.

What its never about is being woke.

For the demise of one of the Great Houses of the Innersphere, it's a terrible weak book. Real lack of action. 3 armies and most of the book is devoted to chatter.

An insane man dies, and so does his realm.
