This series is a solid introduction to many aspects of today’s music scene. Information is given in blocks of paragraphs, with heavy use of stock photos. Anniss’ writing style is light and breezy; he explains difficult topics well. Overviews are given for modern music from the 1950s to the present, how fashion has morphed with music over time, ways various musicians have gotten their start, and a behind-the-scenes look at tours and enormous concert venues. Timelines in all seem a bit dated, as none goes past 2012. Case studies and books for further reading are also included. Glossary. Index.
