An evocative and somewhat mysterious collection by a Scot with strong Scottish themes but purchased second-hand in Melbourne. With 31 poems and 12 full-page illustrations, there is a moody but defiant atmosphere in its pages. The language is restrained and beautiful, a testament to its poeticism. Themes include Celtic mythology, female power and sacrifice, nature and the ocean, and the presence of mortality with the passing of time.
Favourite poems, which I have added to the quotes for the book, are: What Am I to Write, Man of the Sea, and Woman of the Sea.
