i love this book especially for the preface and the past-up (collages) by jess. in the preface, duncan is fierce, contending with the critic Rosenthal (who called duncan's verse 'girlish'), contending with Garcia Lorca, contending with Anais Nin. . . anyway, he eventually comes to this conclusion in his preface: a poem called "something is moving":::
I let it move through me.
I let it move by means of me.
I let it move by my means.
I let it move toward what it means.
It means to me through me.
I let the movement of it through me.
As it is meant for me, I mean.
I let it until it is through with me.
