Hmmm, 80s book about the 50s. Could have been bad! This was about knowing you're smart and doubting you're attractive when you're young and confused. Harriet is a fairly complex heroine, which was really nice for a change (as an alternative to the plethora of boyhood tales of coming of age in the 50s and 60s).
