Summary:
Mr. Bell can fix anything and when something is broken people bring it to him right away. Jill is a little girl who admires Mr. Bell's work and she always stops in his store. One day Jill's favorite doll gets broken and she is very upset about it. Mr. Bell sees how sad she is and he stays up all night fixing her doll and giving her new clothes and hair too. Jill sees her doll the next day and her broken heart is fixed and Mr. Bell is happy to help. This book was one of my favorites as a kid and recently I have been reading it to the children I babysit before they go to bed. I think this book is simple but it is also heart warming and it is a great book for children who are trying to learn how to read. The in detail pictures help children make up stories of their own even if they haven't learned how to read yet.
In-class activity: Each student could bring in their favorite toy and have show and tell. This would help them with public speaking.
one of my very favorites as a child. this book is full of atmosphere. i remember loving the pictures, and i think this book is the reason i like roast beef.
This was my children’s favorite book when they were little and now is also my two granddaughter’s favorite. A sweet story with a hero (Mr. Bell) who saves the day when Jill’s favorite doll has an accident with a dog.
I recently rediscovered this book on my shelf and the nostalgia was real. I don't really know why I loved this book so much as a child, but even now I look back and understand that this is exactly the type of book child me would love. And I still love it.
This brings back many childhood memories of my Dad reading to me. He owns an Autobody & Mechanical repair shop so it was close to home and close to my heart.
This is one of my favorite books! Mr. Bell can fix anything, and Jill enjoys spending time with him, watching him fix things. One day, Jill comes into the store to show Mr. Bell her broken doll. He promises to fix it and we watch as he takes old things and gives them new life. This is a great story about recycling and reusing. The story and pictures are beautiful.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! It was my absolute favorite growing up. This book is kind of sad but is so so so sweet and heartwarming. It is a hard book to find because it is so old, but if you can put your hands on it I can guarantee you won't want let it go.
