When detective Joe LaLuna is called in to investigate the death of his high school sweetheart's husband, he finds himself trailing three suspects, including a dangerous young woman who could get him killed
Jim DeFilippi is a crime novelist (DUCK ALLEY, BLOOD SUGAR, JESUS BURNED) and humor writer. His crime novels are all times humorous; his humor writing at times is criminal. Newsday called his stuff “Suspenseful, often hilarious,” Publishers Weekly added, “Excellently paced and imaginatively told,” but his favorite blurb is “Whoa, that was good.”
I love the idea of the plot. Although there could be adjustments here and there in the book. The story was confusing at times with all the characters and the way the author makes you think everyones the murder, and you have to pick a side. Some characters were also introduced so suddenly that it was hard to remember who was who. Besides all that though I enjoyed reading this book!
This novel has the distinction of having not a single likable character. The concept had promise - murder by insulin, but the long road to get there was less than fulfilling. And frankly the "Black Widow-eske" ending was a bit out there! Without someone to root for it just became a tedious read.
Mr. D was my high school teacher. He taught me a lot over the years about writing, reading and just the joy of the written word in general. I couldn't wait to get my hands on his book. I liked the writing, but the story wasn't one that I would call my favorite.
