Rock Priest

Rate this book
Read the inspiring story of David Pierce, the lead singer of the band "No Longer Music" and founder of the world-wide mission organization Steiger International. In the early 1980s, at the height of the European punk rock movement, David Pierce started a Bible study on a barge (called Steiger 14) behind Central Station in Amsterdam, Holland reaching disenfranchised young people of that city. It was there that David started a band called "No Longer Music" (NLM) to use as a tool to communicate the Gospel of Jesus to these young people who would never step foot into a church. Since then, David has taken the message of Jesus to some of the darkest corners of society, including closed Islamic countries, terrorist clubs, squatter villages, anarchy festivals, brothels, junkie joints, punk & goth music festivals, Satanist clubs and New Age gatherings.

A friend lent this to me just before I left for my holiday to Australia.
Since it's a pretty short book, I didn't mind squeezing it in my suitcase :)
I read this on the beach and while I doubt the majority of People would be willing or maybe even able to live this radical sort of life style, this book really challenged me with some of my own attitudes and comfort zones.
I think the stories show a good balance between radical and generous love towards people that nobody else bothers or wants to care about, but also to be sensitive to situations that are dangerous and should only be attacked when totally sure of the Holy Spirit being in it.

I think this book might even have started a process of me figuring out how to set up a new project, but that's something I need to think and pray about a little longer...

An excellent Christian Testimony! It covers the highs and lows with the highs emphasised in a light easy to read format. Testimony should be about encouragement, the glory to God alone; with just a bit of inspiration or thought provoking insight. In this last - the book raises some excellent points about reaching the unsaved in their own culture (or sub culture)

Overall David Pierce delivers on all of these elements of testimony well. The only thing pulling the book back from five stars would have been to change this light reading characteristic and go into greater depth and but that would spoil things in another way. David Peirce has had amazing and unique experiences; and all the way through we can see God's hand shaping and preparing him with the requisite skills, experience and inclination for the future God has for him. Pierce has the passion and fearlessness that youth of today so often lack and stepping out with integrity in the end led to blessings for himself and for many others.

David prepričava svoja iskustva propovijedanja Boga kroz rock svirke na opasnim mjestima, opasnim ljudima koje pokušava dočarati čitatelju.

An open and honest look at what happens when you continually answer “yes” even when it means possible failure and embarrassment in the eyes of others. Beautiful and Chaotic. Honest and True. Inspiring and Rewarding.

Such an inspiring story of how God can use anyone for his glory. My mind boggles at the amount of people who came to Christ because of a passionate and bold rock band!
