I can vaguely remember D&J books when I was a very small boy; just as I can barely remember playing marbles before the video game Pong hit. D&J were part of learning how to read for so many years; my mother remembers them very well. Looking at the books today it is clear that this is a way of life that no longer exists; as such it has much to tell us of what we were and what we have become.

This is a parody of the classic Fun With Dick and Jane that so many grew up reading. Dick, Jane, and Sally are all grown up now. Sally is twice-divorced and living a carefree life. Jane is also divorced and a bit bitter. She does purchase a new Apple Macintosh with a whopping 128k. Awesome!

This is written just like the original primer but now words such as rad and yippee find their way into the jargon.

This is dated but is still a hoot!

Occasionally clever and funny Dick and Jane story set when they are middle-aged adults in the 1980s. I enjoyed the '80s references more than the D&J references (Aunt Sally always wears a headband, for example). Cute but it's not always clear whether or not it's meant to be tongue in cheek.

I got some good giggles out of the adult versions of Dick and Jane and their families.

Published in 1986, this book is a hilarious update to the lives of Dick, Jane, Spot, etc. What makes it even more fun is to read it from the perspective of 2023.

I decided to review this book after being stung by a scorpion for the first time in my life. One of my colleagues bought this book back when it was published in the eighties. It is now quite dated. For a parody, it is pretty tame. Some of the recollections it gave me of the eighties were nausea-inducing. A tribute to narcissism.

Stupendously brilliant illustrations! And such short, witty text! Must find a copy of this book again!
