Crisp, clear, full-color photographs show all the fascinating machines and earthmovers found at a construction site. Even the very youngest readers will want to put on hard hats! "The roaring power of 13 construction machines is captured in clear, brilliantly colored photographs." -- Booklist
The picture of the cement mixer had workers coming into contact with cement without gloves. I get that not every construction site is as safe as it could be, but wet cement will seriously dry out your hands. The pictures could have been better quality, too.
Introduce the author and talk about how she takes photographs and makes books with them. B Is for Bulldozer or A Truck Goes Rattley-Bumpa or Trucks, Trucks, Trucks are all good books to use. Time is too short to use them all so choose your favorite or the one that is most suited to the age group with which you are working.
One of my younger son's favorite books around age 2. I loved reading the long words to him ("forklift crane", "crane with clamshell bucket", "crawler backhoe", etc.). He now remembers pretty much nothing about it, but my husband remembers having to read it WAY too many times.
Any child who has a vague interest in construction, earth movers, trucks, or generally any big and loud machines will enjoy this book. Images of each machine takes up the page dedicated to it with only a few words, but more information on each machine is in the back of the book.
it seems strange that she wouldn't have just put the explanatory text on the page with the giant picture of the machine, instead of placing it is very small print at the back of the book...
