A warm, inspiring, and heartbreaking story of a young boy refusing to let leukemia dim his sense of adventure. I really enjoyed the different dimensions of this book; the realness of Eric’s mother (the narrator) as she describes the dynamics of both conflict and love within her and Eric’s relationship. The presence of both hell and heaven in Memorial Hospital; the life-giving nature of the relationships formed between these humans, and the selfish and abrupt grasp of death. The influence Eric had on his community both at home in Connecticut and at the hospital. Even when fighting a disease that takes so much life, Eric preserved life and gave it to each of those who knew him. I laughed and cried reading this, it was beautiful.
