Giant Treasury of Brer Rabbit

Rate this book
A retelling of the classic Afro-American tales about Brer Rabbit and his friends and enemies, animals who are constantly on the prowl to fool each other.

Retold from the Stories of Joel Chandler Harris by Anne Hessey. The outrageous, unpredictable adventures of Brer Rabbit -- trickster extraordinaire -- have enchanted children for generations. Here's a unique collection of his best tales -- rewritten with language and sensibility appropriate for today's children, while retaining the wonderful flavor of the original version. 40 full-color and 40 black-and-white illustrations.

This is a nice collection of classic tales about a rabbit and a fox and their persistent "pranking and pestering" of one another. There are loads of lovely, old-fashioned looking illustrations.

By the end of the book, I felt so sorry for Brer Fox, I wanted to give him the phone number for Acme, so that he could order his own Tornado Seeds and Rocket-Powered Pogo Stick. Maybe they'll work better for him than they did for Wile E. Coyote.
