American Immigrant: Why We Left, Why We Came

Rate this book
Bounded by indenture, haunted by Hessians, fleeing pogroms, their voices echo in the pursuit of freedom. Embark on a journey as an "eyewitness to history" and delve into the heritage of your ancestors.

Raw and vivid accounts of individuals grappling with pogroms, slavery, captivity, poverty, indentured servitude, and political oppression. Discover the bravery of the commoners in Jamestown colony who clashed with the noble elites in a crucial moment during the dawn of America's democracy.

Journey from the turbulent 1600s to the 21st century, through the epic immigrant stories of the Irish, Italians, Germans, Cubans, Polish, Russian Jews, Swedes, Mexicans, and Hondurans. The often overlooked details of history, such as England's export of food during the devastating Irish famine.

The emergence of "American ingenuity" as economists dissect the factors that rendered Americans wealthier, more educated, and healthier than many others. Why souls from distant lands are inexorably drawn to America, willingly braving perilous journeys for the allure of a brighter tomorrow. This isn't just a historical account—it's a gripping odyssey into the heart of humanity's relentless pursuit of a better life. This narrative unveils perspectives not commonly taught in traditional educational settings.

Just finished reading "American Immigrant Why we left Why we came" by Pippa Pralen (on Kindle through Free Booksky). A good read. Dry in places but learned a few things and was reminded of a few things. Definitely a must read if you are searching for your immigrants!
