First off, I hate Junie B. Jones books. She seems to be a pretty undisciplined little girl and can be very mean. I also did not like the voice of the narrator for these books. She made Junie sound even more like a brat than I already felt from my own reading. But what drives me nuts the most is her poor use of grammar. I know that is common in children her age, but I also feel that my own daughter is not learning correct speech/grammar rules because the "wrong" is being reinforced by the book (my daughter's 1st grade teacher spent the whole school year reading JBJ to the class). But my daughter loves them, so I digress. I just try to discuss with her how Junie says things incorrectly sometimes.
This is the first I have read in the series. I read this aloud to my 5 year old at bedtime. The chapters are short and the characters are silly and relatable. Junie B. is obnoxious, however. The grown ups respond to the children by rolling their eyes and yelling. There is no discipline and little discussion over appropriate attitude/ behavior. I found myself trying to explain what was wrong with the way she acted A LOT.
Another book series that I really don't like, but my Lil' Munchkin does. I think the worse thing was the narrator. Her voice grated on my nerves and I could not wait until it was done.
We brought the audio books and the physical books in the car for a long car ride to our vacation destination. The kids read along with physical books. You don’t necessarily need to do it for the Christmas book but I would suggest it for the Aloha book because Junie B. makes a photo journal and the pictures are in the book and there is no description on the audio book.
The whole family listened along and laughed so hard. Junie B. is our favorite.
OMG, I am counting down till I wrap up this series with my daughter. Junie B. was especially insufferable in this book. She gets to go to Hawaii but all she can do it complain about it. Really, send me to Hawaii in her place! Like so many books in this series I can summarize it best as my daughter loved it, I hated it.
Both stories were a laugh a minute, but Jingle Bells was by far my favorite. I think it's my favorite in the series, so far. It was Junie B. performing her usual antics and fighting with her archrival, May. But, when Junie B. chooses May for her secret santa gift, the antics really begin. I loved every minute and the ending was very well-written. I could not have asked for a more perfect conclusion to the story!
