Playing With My Fire was a double dose of hot as sin firefighters, the spiciest of the spiciest and undeniable love.
Going into this book I 100% expected for Caleb and Beau to steal the spotlight because not only am I sucker for a man in uniform I am always down for a cowboy, but it was Sakura and Estrella who owned my heart by the end. That is not to say that I didn't love those sinful boys because I did but there was something about Sakura and Estrella's love story that was entirely consuming.
For Estrella's "hummingbird" Sakura was a first-generation American who never disobeyed her Japanese parents. Their word was law and the few times she did try and stand up for herself it was far worse for her. She wasn't practically thrilled with what was expected of her but without any other prospects there was really nothing stopping her from obeying her parents' orders. That was until Estrella the curvy and beautiful woman that was to be her boss at Station Forty-Nine came in and ruined everything she thought her life should look like.
Estrella doesn't do love. She has her subs, and they bring her joy for the night she has them and that is enough for her. Also being a first-generation American means she knows what it is like to put family first and to have to work hard at everything. She loves her job and her best friend Caleb, but her life was flipped upside down the day Sakura walked into her firehouse. She can't get the girl out of her head no matter what she does and to add to it Sakura keeps showing up at the most unexpected places, like her family's place of business.
It isn't long before Sakura and Estrella are no longer circling one another but are completely tangled together in every way that matters but Sakura still hasn't spilled her secrets. Once she does, she knows that whatever she is building with Estrella will be no more.
As Estrella and Sakura figure out their tangled and heartbreaking at times relationship Caleb and Beau are busy building their happily ever after right before your eyes. And while I wasn't sure how it was going to go reading a story with two relationships blooming at once, D.L. Howe made it look like a cakewalk. The story flowed beautifully leaving you with just enough tension and angst the only thing you wanted to do was get to the next chapter.
The Piper Falls: Firehouse 49 series is just getting started but I know without a doubt Estrella and Sakura will be at the forefront of my mind whenever I think about delicious firefighters.

I was looking forward to seeing what would happen to Estrella and Beau from the fire station.... I had figured out that it was a book with two gay couples, which didn't bother me. However, I was surprised that the first half was mostly BDSM (a little too much for my taste), but the book made up for it when we got to the point where they both finally admit that they have found true love.
In other words the last part of the book is the best and I end up loving the last two chapters so much that I wish there was another chapter with how they would go that one year after the last Chapter.

ok, wow. This was not what I expected. But this was everything someone who’s into Dom/Sub reads will love.
Thus story is written from a 4 person POV - Lots of smut that mostly takle place at a BDSM sex club.
First we have Estralla and Caleb who are friends and at times they play and Caleb lets Estralla dominate him because he needs the pain and care to function.
Estrella however find a "hummingbird" in the shy and new recruit at the firehouse, Sakura.
She's intrigued by Estrallas double life as a Domme and when they both realise the other one is attracted to them, they fall into a playful Dom/Sub relationship circling each other but denial and secrets holds them back. But eventually they must admit that this is passionate love.
Beau is the other new recrute at Etrallas firehouse and when he meet her BFF Caleb all bets are off. Beau needs to own Caleb and be his everything.
For my first ever FF relationship I have to admit that this was fire. They are so amazing as a couple and I love how strong Estralla was but also how caring and devoted she ends up being to Sakura.
Same goes for Baeu and Caleb. Their Dom/Sub relationship is hot as hell but the emotional relationship was so sweet. I just fell in love with them.
Only great things to say about D.L. Howe writing style and the smutty scenes she cooks up in that pretty head of hers. Not sure what she put in this saucy read but I was all in! I defiantly discovered some new kinks.

Playing With My Fire was not what I expected. While I loved the storyline, I also realized I learned a lot. I didn't know much about BDSM before. While it was still steamy, I also found it educational. I loved this book!

If you like reading BDSM books you will like this book. I have to admit that although I have read many books relating to BDSM in the past I had very interesting Google searches and learned more than I probably needed about the BDSM lifestyle. This is definitely the most intense I have read. This story includes two separate romances connected through Firehouse 49 and also best friends.
Control is a word she lives by...whether fighting fires or as a Domme. When Estrella tripped over bondage porn she knew she had found her niche. She wasn't into issuing pain, but she pushed her subs to their limits before allowing them pleasure.
Estrella's best friend Caleb was a cowboy and loved working on a ranch and being around horses. When he asked her to join him at Whips and Chains she was surprised to see her new Lieutenant Beau there. She had no interest in him, but Caleb is excited to see the one-night-stand who he never exchanged names with.
Sakura's mother wants her to marry the man they have chosen for her. Her father wants her to get her Master's Degree first. She wants neither. She begs them to give her twelve months without interference and then she will marry.
This book is very graphic so be warned. It is full of shibari bondage, impact play, sadism, F/m, F/f, M/m. Safewords have no meaning here so you are warned. Beau is a sadist, but Caleb thrives on the pain. Estrella loves control and Sakura needs instruction.

Blown away
Dang, this book had it all (or most of my favs) and it was seriously impossible to put down.
From LGBTQ, to kink (so much kink which is so perfectly blended into the story and isn’t OTT or out of place like some BDSM books can get), to angst (seemingly unrequited love and family issues) but what I truly love about this story was two fold.
First, the two couples are so entwined, that even though it really is two separate relationships the stories have to be told together. It seemed odd going into it, two separate love stories in one book, but D.L. blended it so seamlessly that it worked.
Second, I was gifted with a truly bisexual woman. I’ve read some stories where the FMC is bisexual yet you only ever see or hear about her with men but you see Estrella with more women than men and it was perfection to see multiple bi characters actually be bi on the page (well you technically only see two of them with the opposite sex but two out of three bi characters and one is a woman it’s a win for me!)
Sticking with the female bisexuality line, this story was truly a breath of fresh air. So many ff books out there (and even a fair amount of the mm ones) can just be so cringe, but Ms Howe told a beautiful story of love, friendship and kink that all worked so well together and nothing felt forced or like it was out of place it just fit and it was beautiful. I truly hope Ms Howe continues to write books like this because this was perfection.

Playing with my fire has an unique twist to their storyline. It pulled me in from the start. We first see Estrella and Caleb as they are playing together. We learn that they are best friend and domme/sub since they discover bdsm. When Estrella meets her new crew mate Sakuria, it’s lust at first sight. Sakuria has never felt a pull to someone as much as she does with her new captain. They both will play around with their desire until they give in. Estrella will show her the ropes as they play together. But when they are final ready to admit their feelings for each other, Sakuria has a secret that could stand in their way. Beau is also new to the firehouse but one night out at the club, he runs into his one night stand Caleb. Caleb hasn’t forget their time together and now wants Beau to make him his sub. When Beau reconnect with Caleb he wants him now more than ever. Their story is hot and steamy. It doesn’t matter if this is your first FF or your an fan of it, this is one story you don’t want to miss.

Quite unexpected but in a good way, it was hot from the get go and it just got better over time. I don't want to spoil this, but both the MM and FF relationships were beautifully set up and the plot was very interesting, from Caleb and Estrella's friendship and struggles to a sizzling and all consuming romance and obsession (sort of) of beau for Caleb and to Estrella's cold behaviour and Sakura's softness was beautiful contrasting, it was amazing to see the growth of all the characters both as individuals, lovers and together as friends and more ( read to find out ).
At some points I was expecting a lot more emotions from myself as a reader but for some reason it felt light to read it ( which is good ).
So I would definitely recommend this if you want a smut with plot, quick read, with MM and FF relationships with a dash of MF too.

OK first off kudos to DL for such an incredible read. First the amount of love between the 2 couples is amazing!!! I absolutely love Caleb and Beau and there relationship how it truly starts as a coincidence then turns into so much more. And love that Caleb was so cautious about taking things further but also sad because he was hurt and didn't know his worth.
As for Estrella and Saktura omg this relationship ship truly buds on it on time frame. I'm so glad Estrella broke the walls. I'm also glad Saktura wasn't the one to break the wedding it was actually the groom!!!
Then that ending the whole love relationship between the 4 is just incredible.

Holy mother of satan! This book was definitely unlike anything I've ever read before.
I love the change-up in the book and the instant attraction. The push and pull are perfectly lined up that it takes you with it.
This series has been a whirlwind, yet perfect. It's amazing to see the change between each author's style. This one really brings you into Debbie’s and I love it!

Not what I was expecting, I mean this in a good way. This book is different from what I always read but refreshing. It was one of the spiciest books I have ever read before. I love both couples. Maybe I loved Caleb and Beau just a little more. I have a thing for cowboys.

Super Steamy read
Book 3 of a multi-author series. Definitely cranked up the steamy and BDSM right off the bat. Greatly enjoyed the story and the ending was perfect. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book and will be following the author for other new reads.

This book was filled with an exquisite writing style, in which I loved. I immediately fell in love with the character Estrella. The book quickly took a turn into a world I was not ready for. The prologue shocked me, but it really set a precedent for the level of spice to be read throughout. Seeing as there was A LOT. Which I've learned I like in much smaller doses as I found myself craving more character development. Onto the next!

I’ll confess, I’m biased over the characters in this book. DL Howe and I spent a lot of time creating the Ortiz family.
This is two love stories in one.
Estrella and Sakura.
These two have my heart. Estrella is this assertive, domme who doesn’t need or want romantic love. Sakura is this overprotected hummingbird who has never been given the chance to fly. In each other they find ways to let their walls down and gain their voice.
Beau and Caleb
These two have a bond that starts as something physical but quickly becomes something more. Both struggle with accepting that in their own way, but Caleb especially struggles. My heart hurts for him and all he’s been through.
This book does have a strong BDSM element, but it is respectful to the lifestyle and doesn’t treat it as a fetish. It shows the level of respect that must exist.

Good God, Ms. Howe really knows how to write spice! Am I even still in solid form? I think I melted way back on page 4. Or 5. Or maybe it was… You know what? It don’t matter. Because just like the Wicked Witch of the West, I’ve melted! Melted! Oh what a cruelly delectable way to go!
Playing With My Fire is the perfect title for this book. I’m not joking. There’s a lot of playing. There’s a lot of fire between these characters.
I’m not gonna lie. There are some things in here that blew past boundaries and left them in ashes. When it was all done, you can’t even imagine the amount of tissues I went through. If you’re a fan of the darker side of BDSM, you should definitely pick up this book.

I knew this was going to be spicy, especially when you read that Beau and Estrella are Dom/Dommes! It starts off exactly as it continues; fast and furiously!
It didn’t disappoint - I felt for four of them, and Caleb: Gotta love that cowboy!
Beau’s bloody fabulous. Essie: I’m secretly girl-fanning over (she’s one you’d want in your corner) and Sakura: Yeah, I just wanna wrap you up and protect you, lovely!
The side characters (without giving spoilers) were just brilliant. You were meant to not like them and you’re meant to know why. Boy, did I ever!
I loved the double epilogue ending and poor Jenny… what the hell did ye walk into hen?! I hope there’s more to come from these four…

If you have any triggers, this may not be the best story for you.
Take 2 best friends and add in their loves and it makes for a great story.
The dynamics between Estrella and Caleb made it a great story to start. Add in finding their loves in Caleb and Sakura and it is an even better story. I loved that Sakura was trying to find her own footing until her mother started interferring. Though I loved how that ended up as well. I wish there had been more in regards to their fire fighting dynamic. It seems that was left a little by the wayside.

Absolutely amazing book. I was a little thrown at the beginning with how it started but it gripped my attention I read from start to finish in a day. So discriptive. I got lost within it's pages. Well done author I can't wait to read more of your work!

This book was amazing. I loved all four main characters. Each of their relationship had a different aspect . I loved the plot and storyline. The way they all connected is what made this story one of my favorite reads this year.

They have seen each other through the ups and downs in life. The search for their own life partners and their Happily Ever After has eluded them both, till now.
