The Agents #1

Possession

Rate this book
I’m nothing but a payment, bartered to the most powerful cartel in the northern hemisphere and forced to marry a man I do not know.

My father sold me to save his own skin. He might as well have ushered me to the gates of hell.

The Marino family is sadistic. If rumors are true, they’ll own me, use me, control me, and strip me of every freedom I’ve taken for granted. I’ll be a shiny new toy in a dark and deadly underworld.

So when my husband drops the bomb that our arranged marriage is only a means to an end, I realize there’s something worse than merely being a possession.

My stupid, stupid heart.

In the end, the last thing I expected to do was fall in love.

Outstandingly Meh

2.5 stars, but I was too bored to round up. This was not great. It was too long and felt very New Adult. The last few books from this author have not hit with me; the heroines are too young and helpless and the heroes too perfectly perfect and unbelievable. Give me another Asa and Keelie from Gifts please.
Though it had moments, overall it was a super boring read. There was very little action for a mafia story and neither character was very deep or captivating.

**The following may have some spoilers (I don’t think so but the review was flagged so…)**

This hero needed to be at least 36 for me to believe he’d accomplished what they say he did. He’s 29 and the head of a drug cartel (that he wasn’t born into) and he’s been deep cover for the DEA for two years, not to mention time at the academy and working before going undercover, add to that two years spent on Wall Street proceeding a four year finance degree. Is he the Dougie Howser of dark mafia?
Pair him with a college drop out, spoiled cartel princess who barely had a job and biggest selling feature was her beach waves, blue eyes and ability to rock a thong bikini and we have another imbalanced couple by Asher (see previous reviews of mine that complain about this very thing). She called him Hubbalicious…. Just… I don’t… *sigh*
I need more from my heroines, Brynne has just not brought the strong women to her stories recently. This is very much not what I want in my suspense. I can’t really call this dark mafia because anyone who reads actual dark mafia would laugh this book out of existence.
So this is a damsel in distress suspense romance, a contemporary cop rom and not the dark mafia it’s pretending to be with its cover and blurb (which btw is entirely misleading).
The beginning was intriguing but then it just lagged and limped its way to the end with a fizzle.
The lack of care for birth control was also annoying to me, but I’m chalking that to her attempting to do breeding kink and not to creating completely irresponsible characters who didn’t care about bringing a child into a drug cartel situation where they were both afraid for their lives and everything hung in the balance for them. Ya, that’s a great time to be reckless and screw bareback with no bc. Why not?

So I didn’t like this, and that’s unfortunate because I was excited about a new series from this author. I did enjoy her previous series, minus two books, and hoped we would be getting another fun action filled alpha romp… ugh. This was beyond boring, badly executed and I forced myself to finish it - skimming from 70% onward- and it didn’t get better.

Man, this had me on the edge of my seat! Just knowing from the blurb that Landyn was going to be married off into a sadistic cartel family had my imagination going. It's that feeling of something bad is going to happen at any moment that really had me on edge. To say the least, this was a pretty exciting read.

I don't like to go too dark with my reads and I thought this was dark enough that it kept you antsy, but also light enough to save my sanity. I loved how the author handled all the situations.

I think the hero really shined in this book. He had that dark side that woman are drawn too, but he's also a protector by nature. It's a very appealing trait in a man. Landyn was a great heroine. I really liked her and respected her. She could have been a spoiled brat so I'm glad we got to see her treat the situation with maturity.

There were a few side characters that I fell for and really hope they will be a big part in this new series. This makes me excited to see where the author will go from here. This was an awesome read!

Boz and Landyn are freaking amazing together! Their relationship ran me through a gauntlet of emotions even as it set fire to them with the intensity of their chemistry.

This is filled with danger, drama, and characters that captured my heart. Despite the length of this book, it was over way too fast. I never wanted it to end. Definitely one of my top favorite for the year.

Intense, nail biting, edge of seat suspense mixed with snarky banter and sarcastic humor! Brax will make you swoon and swear he is your all time favorite boyfriend and Landyn will make you laugh and swear she’s your favorite female character ever! The chemistry between these 2 will melt a kindle! Here are a few words of advice….don’t start this one at night because you’ll be up all night reading….gather your drink and snacks before opening the book because you won’t be able to close it once you start…put a do not disturb sign on your door because you won’t want to be interrupted…..don’t try to sneak in reading a few pages at work because a few pages will turn into the whole book and being fired while reading on the job might not go over well! 5 stars is not enough!

Sweet, chica! Possession by Brynne Asher was a dark, seductive, and addictive romance that captivated my attention and latched onto my heart from start to finish. I can always count on Brynne to deliver one smoking hot protective loyal alpha male, and Brax Cruz was all of that and so much more. Brax and Landyn’s arranged marriage journey to HEA was full of gripping twists and steamy turns that had you holding your breath and longing for these two to find a way to be together until the very end. I loved Landyn’s strength, courage, and sass as she was thrown into the midst of a dangerous drug cartel with what seemed to be no way out. Brax’s domineering, dedicated, and heroic persona was hard to resist, and the way he possessed Landyn was sexy in all the best ways. Landyn and Brax’s growing love and affection for each other lit up the pages, and I couldn’t get enough of their steamy hot chemistry!

Overall I LOVED this book! If you are a fan of a suspenseful, arranged marriage romance with a hot protective undercover agent, a fiercely passionate heroine, avenging your brother’s murder, bloody weddings, deadly drug cartels, a Cole Carson CIA appearance, possessive displays of affection, revealing secrets, super hot steamy times, making forever plans, a loyal trainee, a risky boat escape, and a HEA that will completely possess your heart, then you will love Brax and Landyn’s story! I always look forward to more from Brynne Asher.

**Audio Review**
I fell hard for Landyn and Brax when I read this book last year. Listening to Possession by Brynne Asher in audio elevated this dark, seductive, and suspenseful romance to a whole new level. Performed in dual narration, Rose Dioro and Jason Clarke mesmerized my heart and captivated my attention from start to finish. Rose's eloquent, melodic voice embodied Landyn's fire, sass, and determination as she was forced to accept a brand new life with Brax Cruz by her side. Jason brought his signature deep dominant growly tone to portray the protective, Brax Cruz. It's clear that Jason truly shines in commanding alpha hero roles. Both Rose and Jason's accent work and character transitions were seamless and had me lost in the story in all the best ways. Plus, both narrators brought the heat with the steamy tension and undeniable chemistry between Landryn and Brax.

This is one of the grittier books that Brynne Asher has done and I really liked that it pushed some boundaries. I wouldn't say it was dark, but for some it could toe the line. I honestly had no idea what to expect from the story and it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The more secrets that were revealed the more I had to guess what would happen next, and just how far some characters would go. I loved the reading experience for that and I never wanted to sit this book down.

I won't say much more, and I personally am usually not a fan of vague reviews, but I think for this book it really is best to go in blind. The suspense added with the intense chemistry between the characters was really fun. I know this will definitely be a book I re-read many times.

Wow… Just wow! This book was action packed from start to finish.
I could not turn the pages fast enough.
Brax/Boz and Landyn are explosive together. Brax has so many layers to him and I fell for him immediately.
Landyn kept surprising me and her ability to see past her situation and not be a victim was inspiring.
I love everything Brynne has written, and I think this is absolutely her best writing to date.
This story has tons of action and lots of twists and turns and an ending you wont to see coming.
Definitely a five star read for me

2.5 stars. This was lacking in comparison to other Brynne Asher books that I’ve read. I didn’t feel any connection between the MCs, I don’t really understand why the hero even liked the heroine besides her beauty. Also, their decision to take their chances to get pregnant amid all the chaos they were still dealing with… totally insane behavior.

The heroine is truly TSTL. She’s really the dumbest fucking little girl who’s playing house. She fights the hero, who is trying to protect her, at every single opportunity. What the actual fuck was Ms. Asher thinking while writing this heroine?? She’s annoying, stupid, immature, a total waste of space. And the hero falls in love with that??? The only redeeming thing about her is that she’s beautiful.

I am listening to the audiobook and I’m 5 hours from the end still, so I’ll update when I’m done. But for now, I absolutely cannot believe how idiotic this heroine is.

——

I’m back… The last ~5 hours (of a total 14 hours) of the audiobook were a lot less annoying. There were still some parts that irritated me, but the action picked up, and the heroine finally stopped acting like a little shit non-stop. The ending was pretty blah though, so it didn’t raise my enjoyment enough to round up my rating.

Safe
No virgins, hero not a manwhore
No OW or real OM drama
No scenes with OM/OW, no cheating

Instead of the author making Landyn spunky she made her flighty & stupid. Constantly running her mouth off questioning everything Boz says or does to protect her. Her favorite line was "I need to ask you something. And I need you to tell me the truth.” Not sure what he found attractive in her but maybe going years under cover without any female physical contact made him horney. They had no relationship development. I hated all the stupid pretty words they would spout during sex. Zero mafia action considering he was an undercover agent who was stupid spilling all his cartel secrets so soon to her.

How does Brynne make each book even better than the last?! And each book is also fresh and original. This book sucks you in from the first page and makes you stay up late to finish it! Lol. This is seriously one of her best books yet! Well, until the next one is written. I absolutely loved Landyn and Brax/Boz. They had this connection. In reading the blurb I wondered how this book would go but it came out even better! This book will have twists you don’t see coming. And I still love Cole Carson!! I can’t wait to read further books in this series.

To say Possession is a “page turner” is an understatement. I don’t think there is an adjective strong enough to describe the intensity of this book. It literally started off with a bang. As in….whoa daddy did that just happen…..I need to read that again. Absolute insanity. I’ve always said Brynne Asher writes the best first meet in all of Romancelandia and she did not disappoint in this book.
From Landyn and her snark to Brax and his broody alpha smoldering intensity this book had me hooked. I will never ever be able to hear the word chica without thinking of Braxton Cruz. **swoon**
If you like your romance action packed with banter for days and characters that will do what they have to do to protect the ones they love, then Possession is the book for you.

I was going to give this book a chance and overlook way this book was about Mexican cartels while it is clear the Author didn’t research before writing this story. The word CHICA is absolutely a non Mexican used word is cheap and it is not used by Mexicans at all made the Boss look like a little beauch while using it. Now who in the world writes a book about Mexican mafia and has the huge disrespect to say the cartel this group of reprints aka Mexican cartels is the biggest cartel in Central America hello !!! Mexico is North America this is extremely rude disrespectful to a culture and nation. This only solidifies the Ignorance of this story.

Out of respect an Author must do the research to something as common sense like Mexico being North America NOT Central America if I can give this non sense a zero I would..

I have no idea how to review this book without giving spoilers! Brynne Asher created a minefield of secrets, suspense, twists and passion that just blew my mind. Possession is utterly captivating and 200% unputdownable. Brax Cruz is the kind of dangerous alpha hero who makes you swoon, drool and lose your mind. So deliciously bossy, edgy and dominating! And Landyn Alba is his perfect match. She was thrown to the wolves but she fought with everything. Their union was a mafia world deal. But their passion and complex feels are so very real!

Landyn was sold to the cartel by her evil father who was trying to save his own life from a debt. But on the day of the wedding, the groom is killed and there is a blood bath..and the groom's right hand man Boz marries her later. Boz is an enigma but his actions make Landyn feel safe...but Brax Cruz aka Boz aka the undercover DEA agent has his secrets and plans and Landyn is a distraction he cannot handle.

Brynne Asher drives deep into the secret service meets mafia world scene here and this was a fantastic execution of a complex plot. Brax infiltrated the Morenos so that he can punish his brother's killer and take the whole organization down. It's a dark terrifying job that comes with heavy burden. He had to be convincing to the cartel boss, replace his dead son and keep Landyn safe..all while Landyn was being all kinds of uncooperative as she thinks she is married to a cartel guy! It was fast paced. It was action packed. It was full of never ending punches. If you love alpha heroes, Brax will be one of your top one. So possessive, edgy, bossy and ruthless! Landyn was driving him crazy with her shenanigans. She is equally sweet and sassy. She felt that Brax aka Boz is different from the evil of the cartel but the reality was still shocking to her. The chemistry is slow building but nuclear hot. And the way Brax holds to Landyn like a life saver in middle of the storm of his life...all the sigh. They make a perfect team. Brynne Asher brings a unique brand of intense and swoonworthy in her books. There is just something epically romantic about the stories she create that you have to experience yourself to understand.

“Landyn Alba” has been given as payment to the son of a mob boss.

His impossibly dark eyes stare into mine. They’re not evil, and that surprises me.

The hero of this story will make you swoon he’s just that hunky!! Protective and alpha extreme. This is one of those edge of your seat wild adventures that you just can’t put down. Definitely darker than I’ve read by this author before.

“You’re a good one, hubbalicious. I knew it from the first moment I laid eyes on you. You’re different. And the good ones don’t die.”

Some faces from the past show up. Everything about this story is over the top delicious. I’m really hoping some of the secondary characters get there own books in the future.

Brax has been working as an undercover agent for a cartel for the last two years. He earned the trust of the leader's son and became his second in command. Aside from infiltrating the organization and gathering evidence to take it down, he also wanted to find out who killed his brother. And based on his research, the answer could be found in this cartel group.

As for Landyn, she was sent by her father as a debt payment and was supposed to marry Brax's boss. But a shootout occurred, and her fiance died in the church. With this, Brax was assigned as interim boss, and he married Landyn instead.

I enjoyed the story overall; I felt like I was inside an action film when I read this. I liked Brax as an MMC; he wasn't an asshole, and he was dedicated to his job. What I didn't appreciate was his constant push and pull with Landyn, and this lasted up to 65% of the book. 😅 This was a freaking sloooow burn, but I still enjoyed it because of the chemistry and tension between these two. I also liked the fact that the MCs are obsessed with each other just the same. There are lots of twists and revelations almost at the end, and I was overwhelmed, but in a good way. I had fun reading the side characters too, though at times I'm confused about who's who.

Overall, this was a good read. I didn't give it a 5⭐ because I think this was way too long and could've been a few pages less. Some parts of it were dragging, but the majority of it was intriguing and suspenseful. All in all, this book is worth reading and highly recommended to readers who are into romantic suspense.

This book catched me off guard and I loved it. To be honest I expected something totally different but it turned out even better. First I thought the love interest would be the mafia boss (guilty for reading too many darkromance books) but I realised quickly this is not the case.
The plot was action packed and had a lot of twists and turns. It kept me on the edge of my seat and glued to my kindle. I enjoy books were shit goes down and we get a little action. Everything was well thought out and we got a lot of insight information about the cartel and the gangs. The whole undercover operation was so interesting and I rooted for Braxton the whole book.
Landyn and Braxton had great chemistry from the beginning and both fall for each other fast - although it‘s a slowburn cause both of them won’t admit their feelings. Braxton does everything to keep Landyn safe and she got his back as well. They‘re a great couple who treat each other with love and on eye level.
Overall this story was amazing. It has everything a good book needs: a thrilling plot, a great couple and a fluent witting style. It was enjoyable to read and I had a lot of fun with the book.

I'm such an Asher addict. She laces her books with addictive substances, and probably donuts. If I could dunk this book in milk and inject it, I certainly would. Possession is a trip.

It's also another hit off her K!llers series. After reading this, when the withdrawal symptoms creep in, get your next Brynne-fix from there. There's more than one arresting cru.

Enjoy the high, Chicas!

Rating: 4+ “I’m here for Brax” Stars

This one definitely started with a bang! Once again, Ms. Asher delivered a swoony, action-packed, rollercoaster-of-twists romance and I was here for it.
Brax/Boz was definitely the shining star of this story IMHO. The amount of determination it took for him to carry on his quest was awe-inspiring and I lived for him. I could carry on forever singing him praises, but I don’t want to give too much away, just know that he was not only fierce, protective and uber hot, he would do what he had to to get the job done.
Although I can’t say I was a huge fan of Landyn in the beginning, I will say that this girl could hit the ground running, no matter what was thrown her way. I wish she’d been more “together” but considering she is a young 20-something woman in the world she lived in, I think she did the best she could. And she always found a way to be kind, not a small feat in the world she lived in.
In the end, it didn’t really matter how I personally felt about her, Brax carried this story so forcefully I was completely hooked and was on the metaphorical edge of my seat the whole time. Possession was so well written that I couldn’t put it down and absolutely enjoyed every second of it. Can’t wait to see what comes next!!

2.75 stars?

This was a wild ride. I was so confused starting this book because this was nothing like Brynne Asher’s normal setup, it made more sense eventually, but phew I was thrown for a loop there at first. Also I seriously thought I’d already read this book reading the first page, but it turns out I’ve just read enough forced marriage mafia books that the opening page with the wedding dress they didn’t pick out, the stylists working on them that they don’t know and being locked away is all just very familiar and can only be written so many ways 🤷🏼‍♀️

At this point I’ll be happy to never hear the word “chica” again in my life. BA used it 73 times 😵‍💫 and personally it was giving very much authors having British H’s add “love” onto everything to prove they’re British cause the author doesn’t know what else to do. I may be wrong, Latina readers let me know if that felt natural to you, but to me it felt out of place and a bit cringe 🤷🏼‍♀️ idk.

It was interesting for BA to do something new with this series, but it just didn’t totally work for me. I did like reading the authors note and seeing that the plot has personal ties so that’s cool. I did like the side characters, especially Rocco so I’m interested to see where this series goes!
