Jase

My world is science. The lab and its immaculate surfaces and its deafening silence is the only place I want to be. The study of disease, the chase for cures, the acquisition of knowledge is what matters. Everything but work comes a distant second including sleeping and eating—especially eating. I can’t be bothered with mundane things like food but why is it that this new Italian place keeps drawing me back? Science tells me it must be the food that I can’t stop thinking about but this might be the one time science is wrong. I’m pretty sure that it’s the pretty chef I’m obsessed with and I’m going to get her, too, even if I have to plow through her entire family.

Lucia

If I were to describe my life, it would be chaotic. The new restaurant my siblings convinced me to open should be taking all of my attention but recently a new customer keeps showing up. He says he can’t eat anything but my food and actually camps out on my doorstep when my restaurant is closed. My brothers are warning me that he wants only one thing. Secretly, I’m hoping that one thing is me.

hmmmm... now I'm craving Italian dishes.

It's definitely a unique story, not as romantic as I want. But the gist of it is there. This would be a perfect and fun full-length novel.

I can already see it. A stoic, practical, stand-offish and brilliant neurologist and a family-centric, down-to-Earth, fantastic and talented chef. Met and fell in love over delicious dishes. See? The idea is there. But because of the page constraint, I can't feel any satisfaction over these characters. But dammit, I can feel the heart.

DELIGHTFUL! What I loved:

-Loud, ridiculous, busybody italian family dynamic that felt very familiar

-Foodie references that made me hungry

-Nonna taught heroine how to cook (sad little sob cause I miss my Nonna)

-Both MCs sexually inexperienced but eager to learn together without being weirdly objectifying about it. Love me some enthusiastic dual virgins!

-instalove

-the tenderness MMC felt and showed towards his ailing mother, and the way the author dealt with her dementia

-The dual POV was well done. MMC was brilliant at work and terrible at self awareness and his pov helped you see right into his mind. FMC was just as driven as him, but in a completely different direction and you felt her love of food, family, and life through her pov.

All in all, this was a great story packed into 100 pages. Funny and sweet

3.5 smut-scale stars!

A doctor falls who never had a sensual or romantic bone in his body falls for a chef. This was pretty cute with a little steam.

“I’m a science guy. I know about compounds and chemicals. Isomerisms. Tartrates. But none of those things quite explain love. Love is undefinable because it’s an emotion—or so I thought....I think love is a palpable thing but measured differently than in a test tube. Instead, it’s the tightness in your chest when you think about losing that one person. It’s the happiness you feel hearing that person’s voice. It’s the warmth that fills your bones when you’re just in the same room as that other person. It’s the driving need to put a smile on that person’s face. To want them to be happy, safe, satisfied. I think that’s what love is, and even though we’ve only known each other for a short time, that’s how I feel about you, so please don’t leave. Not tonight. Not ever.”

This was really cute! I loved how nerdy and shy the hero was. shy heroes always melt my heart. I also found it endearing that he could only eat the heroine’s food.

The heroine was adorable and I loved that she was a homebody and showed love thru her cooking. She wasn’t narcissistic or full of herself, but was a little unsure of herself and I loved that. Sweet, innocent heroines always make me smile and I always hope their heroes cherish and protect that sweetness for the treasure it is.

Altogether it was a cute story and I enjoyed it, although I could’ve done without the lecturing of how being a whore is totes cool! It’s not, but it seems to be the new religion nowadays and its adherents have to push The Message and bash the unsuspecting over the head with it. It’s like reading religious fiction, it’s always cringey when it deviates from authentic storytelling to push their religious agenda into the story. So I dropped stars for that cringe alone. I’m reading romance to be entertained, not to sit thru a sermon of whore fucktardation.

Safe. Double virgins. No others, no cheating or sharing. HEA with epilogue years out.

Neuroscientist x Chef. It was a sweet and short story. MCs are different in so many ways yet work perfectly together. I loved the family dynamics and how they played in the book. It was also sweet, with Jase telling Lucia his definition of love, it was soooo swoony.

Anyway, this was fun and enjoyable for a novella. Good enough to pass some time.

The couple: Jase and Lucia

Romance trope:
Length: 92 pages

Plot: Jase is under a lot of stress. Between his work in the lab and his mother's dementia, he can't even eat. But then someone suggests a new restaurant to him, and when he goes there, his appetite is resurrected. Could it have something to do with the beautiful chef?

Commentary: I liked the siblings - when they really started going after each other, they were hilarious.
I always wonder about this kind of hero - it seems like he had a good upbringing with a loving mother. Why is he still so awkward? Is he autistic? I sometimes wish authors would just say - it doesn't diminish the character in my eyes if he is. I couldn't get a read on Jase's age, ethnicity, looks, nothing (and maybe I just missed it). So while I enjoyed the story, the characters, especially Jase, were a little blank for me.

Taste of love de Ella Goode

Argumento:

Jase

Me gustaba...

Ella Goode with another DUAL VIRGIN romance!! *shake shake happy dance shake shake* I get giddy when she comes out with a new book!
Safe
No cheating
NO OM/OW
DOUBLE VIRGIN
No separation
HEA
Meet Jace, a neuroscientist, hyper focused on finding a cure for Alzheimer, a disease plaguing his mom. He is very blunt, can't read social cues, forgets to eat, and is very much how you would imagine a workaholic to be. He can be very robotic in a way, rather than coming off as cold and unfeeling, to me it came across as endearing. He does have his assistant to remind him to eat, and one day he gets recommended a quaint family owned, Italian restaurant.
So he decides to go out and stops in front of a restaurant, delicious smells emanating from there grabbing his attention. He decides to go in and orders one of everything on the menu! He eats with gusto and takes the rest to go, already deciding this is where he will eat from now on. Then goes up to the kitchen and he hears our feisty Lucia's voice. Instantly, his hearing is awakened by her melodious voice. YES! Our hero started to fall for his one and only, true love with smell of her food, then the delicious taste of her food and now is soothed and turned on by her voice! THIS IS A FIRST!! I LOVED IT!! When he finally sees his little chef, in the second act of the book, it is a done deal, he is hers. How does he convince her? By offering her a side job to cook for him and his mother, meals at his home! I love that he now only wants to eat Lucia's food and no one elses, especially since she loves to cook for people, so cooking for her love is just too sugary sweet! The comedy is laugh out loud funny too!
Even though they are polar opposites but are attracted to each other like opposite end of magnets. Lucia teaches Jace what love is, he is so methodical and matter of fact, that concepts of love evade him, even though he feels it deeper than we may give him credit for (remember, he dedicated his whole life to finding a cure for his mom's Alzheimer's), that is love too! Instead of fighting this odd feeling in his chest he fully embraces it from the start, he just doesn't know that what he feels is falling in love with his woman. *sigh*
This was a low angst, mellow, sweet story, and Jace and Lucia are lovable characters and such a delight to read. There is a bump in the road but they quickly remedy the misunderstanding. Lucia's big Italian family and their banter is a hoot and the relationship between Jace and his mom did bring tears to my eyes.
I recommend this read, it is worth your time!
Happy reading!

I never really got into EG's novellas over the past couple of years- but I've been in such an awful slump, and this was the perfect read to break it (for now 💀).

I absolutely loved the concept of the story, and was obsessed with the dynamic between the characters (the fact that he would only eat her food!?!?!?!? 😩☝️).

This would've honestly made for such an amazing novel- there was SO much potential (with their banter, the side characters, the storyline etc. - the wasted potential is getting to me lmao 😭).

But all in all, it was fun, and I'll definitely be reading more novellas by her.

meh

It’s like sheldon cooper with muscles dating nia vardalos (my big fat greek wedding) but italian. Unfortunately it’s not as funny.

Sweet, yes, but it’s not laugh-out-loud funny like Make Me A Match or as sexy as Her Secret Pleasure or even as sweet as Noble Love.

The family dynamics on both sides were wonderful, though.

Jase & Lucia

Short and sweet! I love Jase and his Lucia-induced eating issues! He is truly brilliant, socially awkward and all Lucia’s. And Lucia is quiet, introverted and all Jase’s - as well as being an amazing chef. This story was adorable!

Laughs and cuteness plus a pinch of steamy love and you have the perfect recipe for a good little read.

Short and not too heavy on the hotness, this tasty romance brings about good feelings and a healthy dose of smiles.

Jason and Lucia are a scientist and a chef who fall in love when he enters her restaurant by chance and falls in love with both her food and herself. I loved the family dynamics because Lucia's siblings have the best banter. The dialogues are hilarious. On the other hand, Jason is an absent-minded genius who pours himself into his job and loves his mum. These characters are sweeties, yet they manage to fall in love and take care of each other despite their different worlds and experiences. Really cute.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

Jace is a scientist who is working on a cure for dementia, his mom suffers from it and he knows he won’t be able to save her but his research can save others. He is so focused on his work that he forgets to eat, his assistant Calvin tries to help by making sure meals are provided at the office. But even then most of the time he forgets to eat and when he does his stomach usually hurts.
On the suggestion of his mom’s caretaker he goes to a new restaurant, Mancini. It’s owned by a family and Lucia is the chef. Jace is enthralled by the smell of the food, for once his stomach doesn’t hurt. Not able to decide what to order he orders one of everything. Lucia and family think he is a food critic. Jace overhears her talking and is equally enthralled by her voice, now he definitely can’t wait to eat her food. He devours almost everything that is put in front of him, packing the rest as leftovers. When he comes back the next evening with Calvin the family wonders why a food critic would come back again and order one of everything on the menu again. It finally comes out with the help of Calvin that he is a doctor of neuroscience and he would like Lucia to come to his house to cook for him and his mom. The interaction between her family, the kitchen staff and Jace are funny. He had a very hard time articulating in front of her.
Lucia goes to his house to cook, it’s adorable how awkward Jace is. But Lucia doesn’t mind, she finds him fascinating. He shows up after the restaurant closes one day and the police show up because he’s sitting by the front door. Thankfully Lucia sees and tells the police he’s her boyfriend. Inside kissing leads to Jace giving Lucia oral. When her dad and brothers show up the next morning things get awkward then her sister shows up and Jace says he wants to marry Lucia. She sends everyone away including Jace. She’s not sure why he wants to marry her, he didn’t mention love, is it so she will cook for him? She decides to see where their romance is going and tries to find him. She ends up at his house and spends time with his mom. He was at the hospital supporting Calvin, whose husband was in a car wreck. He sees them together, sees their affection for each other and realizes he loves Lucia. Sexy times once he gets home, dual virgins. Epilogue with them married and expecting their first baby.

🟥WHAT I HATED-->

Remember than an insta-love heroine will always--

--Never wear makeup and always be insecure about her looks.
--Will be mostly curvy so that the author can show that the hero is going for her inspite of her body dysmorphia.
--Will be shy so that that all the 'pursuing' will be left on hero's part only.
--Will be naive and unaware of her beauty because she needs a man to make her look beautiful.
--Will be mostly domesticated because ....men are not attracted to independent women I guess???
--Will be younger...because why not?
--Will be virgin ...because why not?

My rating is actually 3.5 stars.
Even though this book only has around 90 pages, I struggled so much to finish it. The beginning was too long, it dragged along for way too long.
Chapter 13 confused me af! Jase was carrying Lucia around his waist and he felt cotton AND WOOL on his p. And then when they started undressing, she had sweatpants (out of wool?) And her heels were poking his back. So, all in all, she was in woolen sweatpants (or maybe underpants?) with heels. And before it was mentioned that she doesn't wear heels. Jase also seems like someone who knows what he's doing around the "slit" (scissoring it?!) and whatnot, but when he first saw her, he couldn't talk properly. A bit inconsistent.
There's also a weird shift of POV a few pages before that, when he asks her if he made enough food.

For a book that's only 90 pages long it took me too long.

The plot is honestly very weird, there is no conflict, no overcoming of anything. They are both virgins who find each other and that's that. I mean, I wouldn't recommend this book in all honesty.

An editor or a good beta reader would catch all of this for sure. A message to my fellow author - I'm sorry, but this could've been done much better.

This author is a one-click for me each time a new book is released. I love that each of her books can be devoured in no time. This one was a bit different. The MMC is a neuroscientist who is hyper fixated in his work. He's awkward with people, forgets to eat and has problems with food in general (like the only food he can eat without feeling/getting sick is food prepared by the FMC. The FMC is a chef. Cooking is in their blood, well for most of them. The MMC ends up at the new restaurant opened by the FMC and her family. He loves the food so much he comes back and asks to hire her to cook meals for him and his mother. In no time, the two end up together in a insta-love/attraction, virgin, HEA story.

Jace is on a mission. A neuroscientist, he wants to find a cure for dementia and its very personal. He gets so wrapped up in his work, he forgets to eat. It has gotten so bad that food would make him nauseous. Then he sits down in Lucia's restaurant and eats her delicious food. Food is better when its made with love as the saying goes. Lucia doesn't want the spotlight, she just loves to cook. So when Jace enters her life and wants to be around her, only eat her food, its a surprise. I have to say it reminded me of the movie, Simply Irresistible just a little bit (love that movie, very underrated). So wholesome and lovely, I loved how they just clicked!

I love this one!
Jase is an amazing neurologist who studies and does research on the brain. He’s very one track minded until he tastes Lucia’s food.
Then he hears her voice.
Then he sees her.
He doesn’t know it, but he’s fallen in love at first sight.
Lucia also loves Jase at first, but she’s afraid she will also come second to his work.
I love his opposite these two characters were to each other. I think the story was written and kept me entertained the entire story.

I devoured this book. I loved Jase and Lucia. For me, there is nothing better in a book than when the H is laser-focused on the h and sees nothing but her. And Jase was just adorable on top of that, so even better. Lucia was a little firecracker who was absolutely perfect for the absent-minded doctor. Ella Goode outdid herself on this one and I have my fingers and toes crossed that she writes books for all of Lucia's siblings.

Different

Dr. Jason Ali is a neuroscientist, he is a little different from other people and works hard on his experiments. Lucia is a chef in a restaurant run by her and her loud loving Italian family. These two together were a good match, they were so different from each other. There were a few small things that never got explained, but it didn't make the story horrible. I liked the story and how it was done.

The science of Love ❤️

Another great story from Ella Goode.

I was not going to read it while working but could not stop myself. I finished reading in between work.

Jase and Lucia are so opposite of each other that they have to be fated to be together. Jase being a research scientist studying Alzheimer’s and Lucia being a chef worked so well with the story. Also love Lucia’s bothers and sister.

I highly recommend this wonderful heartwarming book.

This was a super cute, short and sweet read with a touch of spice and I loved it👌

Jase reminded me of Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory which just made me love his character a whole lot more. He was smart, socially awkward and completely adorable. The instant connection he and Lucia formed was beautiful, they both lead very different lives however took care of one another in a way that will make you melt.
