I love seeing leads reflecting on their past faults and becoming better individuals!! Strong leads that don't rely on others to achieve their goals are awsome. Here for instant the Fl is relying on her past knowledge and a hourglass(that allows her to turn back some time). Its really interesting to see how she uses this ability, like eating junk food then going back in time to where she didn't eat it so that she stays healthy XD. She becomes really smart so the antagonists barely even have a chance to fight back, the art is really nice as well.

TL;DR Overall, an interesting story about a villainess made victim who is given the chance to change how she is seen. While the proofreading could have been better, the story itself is a solid 4.5 stars. The only thing thag could have been improved was the pacing. Some arcs dragged on a bit too much.

Believe it or not, this isn't even my full review 😌 I really liked it and for having spent so long reading it, I still have a lot to say.

I spent 18 hrs reading this late at night for the past three days so yes, this is amazing.

My main qualm is the proofreading and editing was lacking, especially as the story progressed. It was hard to tell who said what-- which could change the tone and insinuations- and what words were omitted.

I loved the story and most of the characters. I think that this story also served as a prettt good socioeconomic commentary on how even when people's statuses change, some people (typically wealthier) continue to look down on them. Or how people are judged by their lineage (or in this world, race or socioeconomic status).

It was refreshing to see Aria, a protagonist who is selfish and calculating but not mean for the sake of being mean. Even though it does serve her interests, she *does* do a lot for others. She tries to think win-win with her friends and associates. While this may be a little blunt to say, I don't think her actions are that far off from what we do in our everyday friendships or relationships. We do good for others bc we care for them or bc we want to repay them. There's still some small self-interest embedded in there. (You're free to disagree.) She is honest with herself about that.

Even so, when she does come across people who don't want to use her, she does have enough conscience to feel guilty. Even if she does decide to use them, she doesn't play them like chess pieces. She comes to see them as friends and family.

This is a wonderful rags-to-riches, revenge story, and Slytherin romance.

Currently @ ch.9 / Will read the webnovel as well!!

This is GOLD.

If you want a break from those cliche villainess stories the main character isn't even a villian and was just framed, definitely read this one!! This is a TRUE villian who's not afraid to use people and manipulate them for the sole purpose of revenge. And I love her! This is how you do a relatable and likeable villain (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜 I'm looking forward to seeing her take them down.

I don’t like how the mc feels like the world owes her everything. Feels like she’s the victim and needed to get revenge for her past unfair treatment from everyone including her family.

1st of all, she herself agreed she’s a big villain back then. It’s natural to receive hate from other ppl no? It’s natural for her family to be ashamed of her. I’m not asking her to be mother Theresa and suddenly be so kind to everyone who’s rude to her. But at least don’t act like she’s doing all this because she felt so “wronged”. Also, her so-called “revenge” is a bit too petty and childish for a supposed adult woman.

Stealing a child’s limelight.... hahaha. revenge.

review of season 1
3.5 ⭐
the villainess turns the hourglass puts an interesting twist to the regression trope where the mc Aria returns to ten years in the past and an hourglass falls into her possession which gives her the ability to turn back time anytime she wants for five minutes. in the start, all the conflicts seemed pretty childish and really low stakes but later on, I began to appreciate the story's focus on internal matters of the country like market shares and trade deals. Aria is really good with her friends even though she insists that she's only using them to her advantage. but i really liked their interactions. she uses the hourglass on several occasions to have a second go in a confrontation (oh how i wish i had this in an argument 😭) kinda gives her an unfair advantage but she uses it for ridiculous things like slapping her sister or throwing a tanturm or binge eating all the desserts she wants.

one thing that bothered me throughout was that none of the characters look like teenagers. the story does mention that using the hourglass takes a toll on her lifetime or something and it's hinted that Aria has sudden growth sprouts after using the hourglass. but it remains true for other characters. and no matter what she is 13-15 throughout the first season to other's knowledge but it doesn't feel like that at all. at the start when they were merely thirteen and they looked and acted that way but after the minor time skip, all of them suddenly look snd act so mature.. it's jarring. the author should've just made them young adults. that would've added more charm to their characters and their actions. instead to just young masters of their households looking to play house, they would have had more authority and look more legitimate making all these business deals and affecting the whole capital city's economy (I've decided that I'm gonna imagine them as adults in their mid twenties, I just couldn't take any of them seriously otherwise lmao) considering the mass of regression trope stories out there, this is definitely one of the better ones.

Does this feel very much like your typical 'main character nearly died but instead time turned back and gave her the chance to enact her revenge on the people involved in her non-death'? Yes, it does. Is it still very amusing? Yes, yes, it is. Was the main character someone who I found entertaining and were there parts of the plot that had me eager for more? Yes, and therefore, I can't wait to pick up volume two.

i’ve reread this like a million times and suffered through crappy translations just to see my babies get married over and over again. i love this manwha. it’s my first one and even though the person who introduced me to it is uh… not here anymore (😒), i still have so many good memories surrounding this. this is probably the first villainess manwha i’ve seen where the villainess is actually ‘evil’ in what she does and omg MEILLE PMO SO MUCH. asher is my husband. the side stories are cute asf, and i stan aria’s mom so hard.

tropes~
-secret identity
-time travel (isekei)
-villainess plotline
-magic items
-basically she’s the hated stepdaughter

The revenge on mielle took way too long I swear to god
The weebtoon has a lot more flavor cause in the novel they barely describe the characters or surroundings if I hadn’t read the weebtoon prior to reading the novel I wouldn’t even know how her mom looks like lmao(maybe because of the poor translations??):(

If you want a story that focuses on a reincarnation of a villain, and the villain actually acts like a villain?

then this story is for you

Aria was set up and killed by her sister in her previous life, now she wants revenger on the whole family. for good reason too.

At first I was like, maybe these people can change and learn to grow and maybe get along

but no, there is no hope hope for mielle and her family. they look down on aria from the beginning and treat them like trash I hope they get their just deserts

Aria certainly deserves better

at one pint I cant help but wonder if it is a case of nature versus nature with these kids but you know, poisonings your step mother is not exactly innocent or go to either category

im planning on reading the novel as well

the webcomic is going way to slow for my liking

but I cant wait to see what happens

I'm reading the webtoon as well (through TappyToons), however I finished the webnovel (on the Webnovel platform) so wanted to record my thoughts as well.

Overall this was a very different "villainess goes back in time" series. Aria, our "villainess" who miraculously travels back at least a decade after being beheaded, doesn't so much become a better person as recognize how she was manipulated into being a "wicked woman" thus changing that narrative.

You see, Aria's rival is her younger stepsister Miele who is hailed as "a saint". But she was a saint with a rotten core that manipulated everything so that Aria's mother would die and Aria would be villified.

That said, Aria acknowledges throughout the novel that even though Miele may have set the stage, it was past-Aria's vanity, arrogance and selfish disposition that made it possible to be manipulated. As she says numerous times while manipulating Miele now, its a CHOICE to listen to such things and a CHOICE to act selfishly instead of wisely.

Still, its not as of Aria truly becomes a saint, she just uses her knowledge of Miele's true nature against her as well as improving her own lot in life just in case Miele comes out on top still.

Its rather fascinating - though the "hourglass" is the initial catalyst she uses to outwit Miele and others, slowly Aria realizes that even without it she has advantages over Miele. Around the midway point she recognizes that her past self was dumb as rocks to have let such a shallow, vapid girl destroy her. Miele isn't a genius or grand strategist - she's a girl who was a pawn for much smarter people that saw fit to prop her up.

One by one those people are taken - the Aristocratic Party's "Princess" (who in the past married the Crown Prince and began the fall of the Imperial Family), the shrewd lady's maid that protected Miele since birth, the protective older brother, indulgent father, and lastly the good opinion of the public itself.

Mind you at every turn, Miele had a CHOICE to change things. She made a choice to betray everyone for her selfishness. Just as in the past Aria made a choice to live a rather hedonistic lifestyle.

In between setting Miele up, Aria makes genuine friends, dabbles in preventing some huge issues she vaguely remembers from the past, catches the eye of a mysterious young man who becomes intrigued by her, makes a fortune, learns the truth of her birth, and makes some missteps along the way.

A solid novel unlike others I've read. The webtoon appears to be following it very faithfully, and is beautifully illustrated, so I highly recommend that as well.

I'm reminded frequently of how many webtoons/manhwas can only seem to have 2 types of female MCs - the weakling or the complete asshole. This is the latter.

This entire volume, the MC did 1 nice thing. When pretty much all of her inner monologuing is her talking down on everyone around her, calling them stupid or implying that they're gluttonous, fat, monsters - it makes for a character I don't care to root for. Considering the character she wants to get revenge on has also done really awful stuff, who was I meant to root for here? Sarah?

The guy she wants to romance has the personality of a block of wood. The mother is a spoiled, flighty mess. There is nothing to grab onto here. I genuinely found this a chore to get through as the story just wasn't that interested to follow. Characters were either bland or utterly unlikable and the plot wasn't that entertaining for me. The art is the quality I expect from a manhwa, but that's the only thing I can safely compliment about this story. I don't get why anyone would care enough to read over 100 chapters of this, but to each their own, I guess.

Personally, I found it meh.

It seems like a harsh review since I can sing its praises but stick with me for a bit. The world building is minimal at best, I'm past chapter 11 and I know nothing more than, there are family crests, royals, barons and aristocrats. If magic comes into play all of a sudden, I'd rate it lower, but I like it when there's no forced magic system. Now the sister Mielle is a saint type character so I'm not sure about whether it's magic or just status in a church.

The thing that keeps me from really getting into it is a lack of description. I'm going along with the momentary thoughts and flashbacks and they feel jarring when there is a sudden change in scene. I want to know what season it is, what the carriage was like, the room, the dress, anything but I get the bare minimum and it feels lazy. Just inner thoughts, dialogue and oop now we're in town did you know Mielle goes to town too lalalala☆.

Now theres an issue with the translation, editing, proof reading or the coding but the quotation marks "" for dialogue is janky early on and it is incredibly jarring and annoying. Takes me right out.

Character design? If I didnt know what the manhwa characters looked like, I would only have the idea that Mielle looks like a pure, cute girl and Aria is a beautiful child. That's it. Nothing else. Hair colour, eye colour, length of hair, nothing. I'm guessing it is to give the reader the agency to conjure up a look for her (we know shes blonde) but yooooooo, I'm a sucker for detail.

Character design? If I didnt know what the manhwa characters looked like, I would only have the idea that Mielle looks like a pure, cute girl and Aria is a beautiful child. That's it. Nothing else. Hair colour, eye colour, length of hair, fashion style, nothing else.

Don't get me wrong, I really am interested in the story. I think Aria is a complex character that can't be put in an 'antagonist' or 'protagonist' box, I think it shows how petty or childish she is to focus only on Mielle as she is the core reason for her turning the hourglass, I think she's great. I personally love her mother, but I cannot for the LIFE of me recall her actual name which is an issue. I know she's a countess. I just want her name. Countess ______.

I'm fine with only getting Aria's point of view for the time being as she has a lot of plotting and scheming to get done while she's still small.

I hope this helps, it's an alright read. The plot and concept are reaaaaaally good, real tight and interesting, it's technical aspects that bring the ranking down for me, and that is a whole shame.

I’m not totally sure who stories like this one are for?

I mean, we’ve got essentially a time travel, fix-it story here where our FMC—Aria—goes back in time to prevent her evil younger sister—Mielle—from having her executed in some power grab ploy? This results in a grown woman being reincarnated in her fourteen-year-old self and a whole lot of problematic depictions of young, female characters behaving in incredibly contrived, horrible ways to each other for rather flimsy reasons.

Don’t get me wrong—I love unlikable characters, particularly unlikable FMCs. Give me all the unapologetically awful women you can. I’ll love them.

But, who really wants to read about little girls behaving like catty women for 200 pages? It’s relentless.

This first volume basically introduces 10 pages of exposition upfront to situate the plot—and then never returns to crafting the plot. It’s just a whole lot of characters being petty disguised as plot development—and it’s not.

This was boring. This was uninteresting—and it was definitely uninspired.

Whether you are a fourteen-year-old girl or not, you should be offended by these depictions. If you have a brain in your head, you will probably not like this story. At best, I’d describe it as drivel.

The illustrations are nice—I’ll give it that. But, all the female characters kind of look the same too. Which, sort of cancels out anything good about the art style.

Anyway.

Not a fan~

While this manhwa has beautifully drawn artwork, the story is a bit choppy.

Aria, our main character, was out to death in her past life on a scheme orchestrated by her sister, Mielle. However, the gods have given her a second chance with a gift of a golden hourglass. After going back to her younger days, Aria is bent on getting revenge on those who have wronged her.

As I said, the artwork is beautiful. I love fantasy stories with beautiful designs and fashions. It makes it so much fun to read! However, the storyline is quite choppy with one scene abruptly changing into a new one. The characters of Mielle and Aria are extremely similar and it was difficult to discern who was who at first.

Book one did an ok job at setting things up, but it did feel like it dragged at times. I’m interested to see where the story goes, but it’s not high on my priorities right now.

Thanks so much for edelweiss+ and the publisher for providing me a copy in exchange for my honest review!

The Villainess Reverses Hourglass berbeda.

Ilustrator The Villainess Reverses Hourglass benar-benar luar biasa.
