The love between brother and sister. The love between man and woman. That which is most forbidden is most unyielding. The two sons and five daughters of the Shiunji family shine like brilliant gems, each with intelligence and beauty in equal measure. And with the pedigree of their wealthy father behind them, how could they not be the talk of the town? Eldest son Arata has spent his life being tossed around by the whims of his colorful sisters, yet a little teasing won’t stop him from valuing his family over anything and anyone else. But when his youngest sister turns fifteen, their father reveals a long-hidden secret of the Shiunji “siblings” and knocks Arata’s world off its axis…

So… he’s been raised with these sisters (and the one brother) for all his life but suddenly, daddy says they’re not blood related and all the sisters are coming at him?!? Blehhhhh!!!! Even if he doesn’t end up with any of the “sisters”, I’m not here it! Dropped faster than Rent a Girlfriend (surprisingly LOL)…

Mmmm, delicious schlock.

WHAT I LIKED:

The premise is what drew me to this series. I like reading transgressive fiction, as long as it's not too explicit, like grindhouse or super gory films. When I see people on social media saying that if you read or watch XYZ you are a bad person and won't see Heaven, I have to check it out for myself and see what the big deal is.

The art is good. The character designs are cute. Arata doesn't look very distinct, but I like Sion's and the sisters' designs. I had some trouble remembering their names at first, but they all look distinct enough for me to get the hang of it. Their personalities are trope-y but established quickly, and it reminds me a little of anime I used to watch back in the late 2000s? Maybe? You have the twin-tailed tsundere, the shy girl with her fringe covering her face, the tomboy, and so on. They're simple but play off each other nicely. My favorites so far are Kotono and Seiha.

WHAT I DISLIKED:

To be honest, I think this manga is trying too hard to be self-aware. Every other page it's like 'what is this, a rom-com? A harem anime?' Yeah, buddy, we know. You don't have to keep hitting me over the head with it.

The manga takes about 60 pages to get to the inciting incident, which is that the siblings are not blood-related. There is no in-universe justification for their father hiding this from them for so long. It was baffling to me and hard to believe. After the reveal, there are a couple of pages of the main cast sitting in the exact same pose with the exact same shocked expression. I feel like this could have been handled better.

What I feel is this manga's weakest point is that it introduces ideas and keeps bashing you over the head with them. Arata is constantly going on about how he's the big brother and this doesn't change how he feels about them, etc. He's the only one who seems troubled by the revelation that they're all adopted, while the rest of the siblings quickly jump into flirtatious mode. Except for Sion, who I'm not sure is supposed to be a wing-man or the secret MLM (men-loving-men, not multi-level-marketing) option?

I've read enough manga to know to suspend my disbelief, but I think there was a lot of missed potential for emotional angst. The bombshell that was dropped on them is at odds with the lighthearted tone. I just wish they'd take it a little more seriously. I guess that is my bad for picking this up and expecting a drama. I'll read the next volume if it comes out, but that's a big MAYBE. I don't even see a preorder page for it on Amazon so who knows, but hopefully it doesn't get dropped and forgotten about like the Eromanga Sensei manga. Tentatively shelving this as 'comedy' because that's what's on the Wikipedia page, even though it didn't get a single laugh out of me.

• Banri (18 anni), sorella maggiore, formosa e aspirante infermiera.

I like the premise of the manga as the aspect of exploring what a family who is raised under the belief that everyone is related suddenly get the news that they are all adopted is compelling. The characters present interesting viewpoints on the meaning of family as they come to grips with their father's revelation. At the same time, they also have to content with the younger member of the family experiencing tumultuous emotions of their age of the difference between strong feelings of attraction due to hormone changes and also the definition of love and affection as its directed towards the eldest son Arata. I think Arata handles it well as does the other family members who are all concerned. It could have easily spiraled into the typical hijinks we see with manga and anime but it doesnt.

That being said it is a romantic comedy and potentially at the end of this 13 volume run Arata made end up with someone or maybe no one, I'm really curious what is planned here and I wouldn't mind if we got an ending written specific to each character a sort of choose your own. I'm mostly curious where Sion ends up in all this, some of his scenes made it seem like he had to content with the same feelings the youngest sibling has dealt with, Banri as the oldest is compelling, and Ouka seems like the generic winner type girl character. Seiha as the bookworm, Minami as the sports girl, and Kotono, as the youngest all fill in the typical rom com roles to provide additional perspective. We're only in v1 so I will like to see if anyone break out of the stereotypical norms due to the situation they are in.

Artwise, its great, cute, Arata expressions are the best part, and everyone else is expressive enough that you can infer what they are feeling more so than the words may convey. Good job.

The Shiunji family children
Tome 1

Hoooo boy, incest harem.

The Shiunji kids were raised together, had always thought they were related, until Dad decided to shake things up by letting them know they're all adopted, no biggie. So now all the weird horny feelings are coming out in this totally depraved harem... and I'm kind of here for it.

To be honest, the writing is better than I expected and it is totally delivering the fan service. (I can imagine how many doujinshis there are - I've probably accidentally read them!) I want to know what happens!
