Scant Wicca, Fair Spells

I evaluated this book in accordance with the title, which claims to be 'The Only Book of Wiccan Spells You'll Ever Need'.
With regards to Wicca, there is quite a lot of apathy regarding traditional methods and ritual. There's ambivalence about doing things this way or that way but it's up to the reader and the book barely touches on it. This is before the actual spell book starts. It's true that you need not do things a certain way every time to be Wiccan and a lot of practitioners modify and develop their own practice over time. But certain things need fleshed out in order to qualify as being the only book someone needs. One of the biggest disappointments is the lack of coverage about the Sabbats. They are included, but just barely there. There were no spells or blessings related to the Sabbats. Spells related to the Sabbats would be a great addition to a spell book claiming to be the only one a person needs for Wicca or any witchcraft or pagan tradition.
It's worth noting the section on tools and altars continues in the same ambivalent manner as the rest of the first section of the book, listing several examples of items then being very noncommittal about the necessity of having certain things. This is worth noting because once you get into the actual spell book portion of the book, it gets very specific in terms of required spell components, days of the week, and how to perform the spells correctly. This is in stark contrast to the lukewarm minimalist style from the first part of the book. There were a lot of ingredients required for many of the spells and it's obvious one or more of the authors of the book love essential oils. If someone wishes to use many of the spells from this book, obtaining a copious amount of essential oils would be advisable. The same goes for herbs here. There's nothing wrong with this, though I think it would be intimidating for someone who is brand new to the religion.
At some point, this book says you are able cleanse your crystals with just water. This is not always true. There are crystals that become toxic in water and there are crystals that dissolve in water. This is a book I don't recommend.

Excellent book to have on hand. I enjoy it very much. The spells within it are simple but very effective. I have had great success using several of them.
