Kiyomaro Takaminé is a brilliant junior high student whose inflated ego (and tendency to blow the grading curve) has made him a major target for teasing at school. So his father sends him a bizarre birthday present--a strange little boy named Gash--to help him make friends and reform his bad attitude. Gash brings with him a mysterious red volume of spells, and Kiyomaro discovers that Gash has magic powers that are unleashed by reading from the book! But there are more surprises to come, and Kiyomaro's destiny is about to change forever!
Loved this volume a lot. Loved seeing Sherry's back story with Coco and Zofis. I really loved and appreciated these lines in particular:
"I know things are really hard right now, and... its like walking inside of a dark tunnel, but... if we keep moving forward, someday we'll catch a glimpse of light." "So please... don't let things end like this... Give yourself a chance... to grow up and be happy"
I hope we see more of them and how their story develops soon
Also I've been loving all the bonus pages in these volumes, this one especially with their trip to England. I really want to go one day now!!
Kiyo and Zatch are fighting to save the former's father from competing mamodo, and when the dust settles, they may just come out on top - and end up with a stowaway mamodo?! Raiku brings out the best in his characters with this entertaining entry. Who is this mamodo, and why is he so intent on harming Kiyo?
Character development for lot of the side characters like Sherry and Falgore along with an introduction to the first main villain of the series, Zofis.
Real rating: Infinity stars! It’s THAT good. Expect spoilers since this is my fandom. This book gives me feels on every range of the feel spectrum. Djem, be nice to Yopopo. I like how some mamodo, ie. Yopopo, can't talk and just say noises like “Yo po poi!”, and “Cau!” for Rops, etc. Yopopo's spells are cool-music notes that can kill you! Well, maybe not kill. But you know...Now let's talk about my problems with Raiku-sensei's drawing style. I mean, it would be hard to draw a fighting manga, so I'm going to point out things about the characters. I can't stand how he draws ears from the back or like ¾ view on the side, and he does that a lot. Also, there are unrealistic ponytails. Djem and Penny/Patie will be my examples. There's no way a girl's hair can be like that. First, that would be a HECK of a lot of gel to have gravity-defying ponytails like that. I mean, seriously? When I used to have long hair I couldn't do things like THAT with it. Also, if you look at it from the side, all the hairs line up even. My hair was way to messy to do that; strands were different lengths. So yeah. Overall, Raiku's a great artist, though. His ideas make up for the slight problems with his art. Still, his art is way better than some, like Hunter X Hunter art sucks. Plot's more important than the art, but the art is still important. I like the chibi back pages on Zatch Bell, but I don't like the shading on the cover and how Zatch's mantle changes colors when it can't do that. After seeing Kikuropu, I will never think of British gentleman the same way again...I really like how spellbooks glow in the manga. The effect is cool but way different in the anime. After 3 readings, I realize how great of a pairing Djem and Yopopo could be. So here's a total FAIL of the English “clean” version: the billboard of Parco Folgore is holding a tennis ball when he's supposed to be holding a boob. That's right, a boob. Literally. Like it was cut off or something? I DON'T want to know. Just watch “Konjiki no Gash: The Man with the Golden Chichis” if you want to barf understand. “Something like THAT just isn't real.” Wow, Kiyo, hate Kanchome much? Folgore's dressing room...NO, DON'T ENTER!!! Do you want to die of disgust?! Kanchome, I would be polite and drink your lactic acid drink. OOF is SO baka. Have you ever heard the OOF theme song? Don't look it up if you don't want to barf. Guess who likes Folgore? Me? NO! Wow, I'm being mean to him...at moments he's attractive, but he's still a pedo. He went around groping the store clerks...Oh, did you know the Folgore skateboard is real? I want one just so I have something I can smash into things. Not because I want to play with it, oh no! Thank you, nurse, for throwing Folgore out the window! Even I can admit that the hospital girl thing is so sweet, but it's stupid guy-like for Kiyo and Folgore to talk to each other without looking at each other. Kiyo still should have went to the concert...Brago and the crocodile, really? Sherry is SO strong and such a great role model, plus she's really beautiful. I've seen Sherry's backstory way too many times, but it's still poignant. “Aah...Japanese people! I've breathing Japanese air!” I can't wait to experience that true feeling! Kiyo, be nice to Umagon.
Zatch and Kiyo finish off their trip to England during this volume. While here they battle several more mamodo, though one is not really a battle. It is a really cute little guy who loves his master more than anything in the world. Then a re-appearance of Parco Folgore, the Italian singing heart throb, and his mamodo makes for a fun venture that also tugs at the heartstrings while being hilarious. The evil Brago returns and once back home in Japan they find they have the cutest little stowaway who loves everyone except viciously attacks Kiyo. LOL. This is a fun volume because of all the returns of previous characters and emphasizes how much emotion this series has. There are some truly touching scenes amongst the battles and hilarity.
